Thameslink: London Bridge to Finsbury Park

A look at Thameslink Operations through the Core and the Canal Tunnels in the new timetable. Filmed on 14 June 2018 when an amended timetable had been introduced to mitigate the chaos of the first few days. Even so, additional cancellations were numerous but the service through the core was very frequent. ATO is not yet in use in normal service.

Showed this to my three year old as we’re getting the train to Letchworth today and she gets so excited about train journeys! :)

An excellent film. I travelled from Cambridge to East Croydon the other week and this answer's several questions about where the different lines go between Blackfriars and London Bridge. 🤓🤓

I know it’s bit late to comment. But Thameslink could also operate to Bognor Regis, Reigate, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells, Maidstone East or Maidstone West, Canterbury West or Canterbury East, Ashford International, Faversham, Littlehampton, Eastbourne, Hastings and Lewis. As they have extended to Cambridge, Cambridge North and Peterborough. With a mixture of 12-Car and 8-Car Class 700s. And maybe to Kings Lynn, Wellingborough and Kettering as the electrification on the Midland Main Line is probably nearly finished.

Do you know why the far tunnel is redundant at Copenhagen tunnels?

There is some information about this on Wikipedia. Basically redundant at the time of the suburban electrification in the mid 70s. I believe that there is some discussion about bringing them back into use. The Thameslink Canal Tunnel has introduced a new conflicting movement at Belle Isle which could be mitigated by reorganising Gasworks Tunnel to Holloway Bank. My previous video of trains at Kings Cross includes some clips of Belle Isle. I intend to film there again but have no schedule yet.

Sorry David. Just noticed your reply. I don't seem to have received a notification when you posted it. Unfortunately the pay is very poor. Joking aside, it has been proven that it is impossible to check your own work to a high standard. Unfortunately it is also impossible to correct the ones I miss after the video is published.

Canal Tunnel, what an uninspiring, boring and thoughtless name. Top Shed Tunnel would be far more historically appropriate.

Gasworks Tunnel would more appropriately be called Canal Tunnel as the line has to dip down under the canal, immediately north of Kings Cross, before it can start the ascent to Belle Isle

wind noise on the mic. so easy to fix. I'm out.

Not so easy on budget equipment. I do now have a wind filter fitted. It is constructed from strands of pledge fluffy duster held in place with blue tack. Needs replacing now and again. Current camera is a Panasonic Lumix TZ90. I could spend several thousand on a fancier camera that supported an external microphone. Might help me retain a dozen subscribers but doesn't look like a good investment.
