As a 49er season ticket holder who has watched every snap of Smith's career, I, along with many other fellow 49er fans, are very grateful for the class, professionalism, heart, and competitive fire that this QB exemplified over the years. Different systems every year, two mediocre head coaches, bad offensive lines that got him sacked resulting in three shoulder surgeries, and every reason to point the finger at someone else, yet this QB never blamed anyone and kept marching on. Smith was set up to fail by his own organization from 2005-2010 after being pinned with unrealistic expectations to save the worst team in the NFL, but you will never hear Smith himself say that because he has too much class. Smith is a true 49er and represented the organization with great class and admiration. On behalf of true 49er fans who know what class is and who know that Smith was set up to fail, THANK YOU ALEX for all of your heart and professionalism.

The people who disliked this video are not 49er fans and they don't have a heart. Alex Smith is one of the hardest workers in the NFL and when you give him actual pro bowl receivers that are not injury prone it shows on the football field. Most underrated QB in the NFL.

I will always be a diehard 9ers fan, but with Alex being in KC, I find myself cheering for them a little more now. Alex smith may not be "flashy", but he gets the job done. He earned my respect as a franchise QB during the 2011 playoffs. When the game is on the line, he fights to win.

Baalke should have been fired after the first season Harbaugh and Smith were gone. I feel bad for the 49ers. Sometimes I wish we didn't have Smith, but at the end of the day he is the perfect QB for Andy Reid and Chiefs Kingdom.

It's amazing to me how fast Jim Harbaugh turned against Alex Smith. You don't take a quarterback's job away from him just because he had the bad luck to get hurt. It wasn't like Smith was playing crappy before his injury. After seeing this video I just wonder what would have happened if Smith had been our QB in the SB. As far as this season goes we'll be lucky to even make the playoffs if Kap continues playing the way he has been. Also, Kap kissing his bicep after he scores a TB is a bit egotistical and says to me he cares more about himself than the team. Anyway, thanks for this video it was really cool to watch.

In my view krazyk251, Jim Harbaugh had a tough decision to make between Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick. Smith was accurate and made better decisions, but didn't have a stronger arm and wasn't mobile while Kap was a dual-threat QB, but prone to turnovers. But still, I don't know why some 49er fans bashed Kap7 right away just because he's adapting to his first year as a full-time starter and begging for Alex Smith to return. The same fans who first supported Kap7 and then bash him are the same ones who bash Smith and wanted him gone before Jim Harbaugh saved and retooled him. It happens with all successful franchises in sports and the 49ers were no different. I see fans going after Jeff Garcia when he struggled taking over for Steve Young and wanted him gone before Steve Mariucci's gamble on sticking with Garcia paid off. In conclusion, whether it's Smith or Kap7, the 49ers can win with either guy as long as they execute everything including the little things including third-down conversions and red zone TD efficiency.

joesakic91 In that last drive in the Super Bowl that Kap so beautifully destroyed for me, let me tell you what Alex would've done. He would've set it up first with a nice decent run by Frankie G. Soon after that with a nice boot leg to the right fooling the D-fence, and throwing a beautiful pass to Vernon Davis, and that could've been he play of his life. But no all the Faithful wanted Kaepernick. And just think if the 49ers even go to the playoffs this yer maybe our promo could be Quest for Seven not six again
@joesakic91
@joesakic91 10 жыл бұрын
ronaldo messi Actually, the 49ers did struggle in the red zone in 2011 when Alex Smith was there. They were 30th out of 32 NFL teams in red zone touchdown efficiency at 40.68%. In 2012, the 49ers improved to the middle of the pack, t-14th at 54.69%. If you blame Colin Kaepernick in 2012 and Alex Smith in 2011 for the 49ers offensive woes in the red zone in critical situations, point the finger at offensive coordinator Greg Roman too.

joesakic91 Your right David Akers has nfl record for most field goals due to Alex Smith ineffiency. I didn't root for Collin last yr but the NE game convince me his arm strength, legs in the Packer game and smile... Cool Joe was benched in college for smiling too much lol. He is still a rookie now in sophomore campaign. I think will be fine it was a money thing for the trade... we got draft pick for him and it worked out pretty well in the draft. It was a money thing... Harbaugh and Alex understood that and they send him to great place to thrive too... no Raiders or Jacksonville dilemma. Alex got more money than he would at SF and got to start... KC got missing QB. 49ers save a lot of money help them load up on talent and be able to pay for it. Lattimore and Eric Reid... might not have been possibilities without trade... 49ers got bold trading up cause of a lot of picks.

If Jed and Trent had not sabotaged the 2014 season from the start (trade rumors during the draft, and bad blood reported days after the 2013 NFC Championship game), then I bet Harbaugh and Colin would have had a great year again. Instead, we saw a team falling apart from the inside out, and how they forced Colin to be something he isn't. Colin is not a great QB, but he was once great at throwing the ball 15+ yards downfield. he was second only to Joe Flacco in 2012 for passes of 15+ yards, then led the NFL in 2013. I thank Alex for the memories of the 2011 and 2012 season, but captain check down has proven he is only a serviceable and consistent starter... not a star. not a franchise QB... not a guy who can put the team on his back.

Not this again. Do you remember who started at wide receiver in that game apart from Crabtree? Joe Hastings and Brett Swain straight from the practice squad. Alex only had one reliable target, Vernon, who he threw two long TD’s to. Nobody was getting open. The same d-line terrorized Tom Brady in the next game and won. We also beat down Eli Manning. Some bad officiating and Kyle Williams infamous muffed punts led to the loss. Alex did his best under the circumstances.

Alex Smith has unbelievable mental toughness. I really enjoyed reading a lot of these posts here from the SF faithful. I'm still on cloud 9 multiple days after Alex Smith and the KC Chiefs whooped the Patriots 42-28 (9/7/2017) in Foxborough. Alex threw for 368 yards, 4 TDs, 0 INT, 28/35 for 80% completion percentage and QB rating of 147. He also had two completions > 75 yards and last year the Pats did not allow one. Thanks Alex!!!!

I agree 100% with the original poster's assessment of the situation Alex was put in and how he handled all of it during his time with the 49ers. Nothing but professionalism and class from the guy, you can only hope every player handled himself that way. I always liked Alex and wish him nothing but the best in KC. I hope that someday he will get a Super Bowl win. With that being said, as far as trading the right QB, well Jim Harbaugh made absolutely the right call on that one. I know many people don't believe so but there is a reason he is the 49ers head coach and all of us are not.

Don't give up on 49ers. Collin is great QB... its was a money move to free up money and a draft pick for 49ers. A Smith would of took a pay cut and be benched if he was in SF... instead he went to great org KC and got to start for team and more money. 49ers got draft pick and more money to sign great rookies like Lattimore and E Reid. A Smith will always be a fav... I root for him except if they play SF. I appreciated his effort and games while he wore gold and red when everyone else hated... but seeing Aaron Rodgers win SB made me wonder what if 49ers drafted him.

Started liking the Niners in 2004 and was the first team growing up that I loved and followed. And boy do I remember loving to root against Smith and pray someone else would start. Then my day came when Kaepernick was named the starter and I was overcome with sadness thinking "But... Smith is my quarterback." All those years I felt Gore was the face of the 49ers, it was actually Alex Smith, and when he left I felt their identity go with him. Then the slow implosion of the team I grew up with. Go Chiefs, Redskins, Colts, Raiders! Win one my Niners a ring!

I know Alex Smith struggled in the beginning of his career, but he blossomed into the great quarterback he is today. I am a falcons fan, and I surely believe that Smith > Kap any day of the week; I have nothing against Kap, he is a fantastic scramble with an amazing cannon of an arm, but smith in my opinion is better, and would be a better fit for the system he was under. Its ashamed that the 49ers let him go due to an injury, I was looking forward to him in a niners uniform.

1SG One of the biggest surprises was found during an interview with Smith about the ending of that Super Bowl. Due to his experience, Smith saw what the defense was setup to do and he saw what Harbaugh had called. He tried getting to Harbaugh to call time out and put in a pressure beater play, something Smith was excellent at beating. Harbaugh ignored him and you know the rest.

Does anyone else remember the 2011 playoffs, when the 9ers seemed to have given up, and Alex ran the ball in the 4th quarter to keep the scoring drive alive? DatFast77 okay so I think I found what I was looking for. It was the final minutes of the divisional game against the saints. It wasn't smith who was knocking people over, it was his blockers, but he ran in a 28 yard TD to keep them in the game. I just remember being so pumped on that play that I must have embellished it a bit with the idea of him knocking people around. Non the less, he got the job done when it counted. So many great memories (and frustrations) watching this. 49ers always seemed to be on the cusp of something, but Smith and the rest of the team couldn't quite get there until Harbaugh came. On side note, can we all agree that those 49ers uniforms in Smith's early years were atrocious? To this day, it cursed the team when they started using them in the late 90s.

Great video! Caught the Chiefs game tonight, and wanted to relive the Saints game Alex won in the playoffs, and came up on thus video. I'll be rooting for Alex the rest of his career. Dude deserves it for the all the crap (some of it by his own doing) he got on the sorry ass teams he played for before Harbaugh got there. Go Alex!

People who keep throwing the point that Colin is still young are not seeing the point. Colin did not do anything this year to make me a believer in him. Before the season started i predicted that niners will make wildcard and colin will struggle a lot. Was right on both, because Colin has been with the same coaching staff and basically same guys since, but even in our superbowl run we looked extremely vulnerable. The reason how we got to the Superbowl that year was the element of surprise with the read option. But the tape will show you that Colin was a 1 read qb and when the first read was taken away he struggled. Fast forward to this season and everyone was hyped up about the first game of the season how he passed for 400 yds and 3 tds. i wasn't sold because one he threw 17 passes to one guy and everyone else were barely were thrown too. it just shows how he favors one side of the field and one receiver. another reason it worked because it was against one of the worst defenses in the league. but what happened next game? he had one of his worst games as a pro. Elite defense consistently make colin struggle because they take away his first read. People say he got better when Crabtree came back, partially they were correct but i still saw the niners offense struggle to sustain drives and score with everyone healthy on offense which scared me. but i was hoping for the best when the playoffs came around. Fast forward to the playoffs and we play the packers. now the packers are devastated with injuries on both sides of the ball. so i think that the niners should blow them out. how wrong i was. the niners couldn't move the ball and even though they were clearly the far superior team they only put 23 points up! i tried giving colin the benefit of the doubt but again he wasn't really reading the defenses, he nearly threw a pick to end all hopes at the end of the game. but he did run for over 100 yds people say. but as a qb running isn't what your game should be entirely made of. passing is a lot bigger and more important. but we won so i was like next round baby. throughout the playoffs colin never completed 60% of his passes. his td ratio to turnover ratio was 4:4. which isn't good at all. when the seattle game came around i knew before the game that we would lose because of the environment, colin's inability to read a defense, colin's inability to spread the ball, and colin consistently having terrible clock management. People say that colin was the better qb between him and alex smith. i disagree completely because what alex smith did this year was nothing short of amazing. in his first year in a new team, players and coaches he adapted and exceeded my expectations. he lead them to a massive turnaround posted career highs and when playoffs came around and he performed the best of any qb in that one game. alex has finally come into his own and he is getting better. while on the other hand colin hasn't

All i have to say is.... ''Clutch'' Still my favorite Qb. Players Like Alex Smith is the reason I watch football. An Underdog surrounded by haters such as fake bandwagon fans and dumb NFL Media. Kapernick has great talent. I just wish he had Alex Smith's smarts and leadership and clutch moments, because that's what it takes to win a superbowl. Us Niner fans don't care about how far you get in the season... In the end ...all we care about is The shiny Rings.

Great video, thanks for posting. We're sure happy to have a guy like him in KC. It was great to see what he's capable of doing, and I didn't know about "Camp Alex." What a great leader! I hope we can get him the protection he needs and some good targets downfield. There's no doubt in my mind that if anyone can take the Chiefs there, it's Alex. Class all the way, 'Niner Fans. You remain the undisputed class leaders of the Bay Area, with no competition whatsoever. None.

This video just gave me goosebumps, brought back a lot of great memories of screaming at a television set and praising Alex's names. Week 7 in 2009 against the Houston Texans is when Alex really showed me what he was capable of, and I've never turned back since. This video just showed you as a QB, it didn't do you any justice as an honorable and amazing man. Best of luck to you in Kansas City, bring them back to relevance like you did us.

I LOVE THIS VIDEO! Alex Smith is going to go down as one of the best QB's of all time in my book. Not for his stats but for his CLASS and COMPOSURE. Even though all the criticism he never once was a drama queen. The time that he was battling for a starting position with Shaun Hill threw the time with Collin Kaepernick, he always showed class even till the day of his trade to the Chiefs. I hope he see's this video and knows that 49er fans still appreciate him and what he has done.

Some fans will always find something to complain about, it seems like Alex Smith has so many more haters than people that support him. He continues to do great things without offensive line or wide reciever help. The Chiefs have had shitty quarterbacks ever since Trent Green left up until they traded for Smith. I love to watch him play and i cant wait to see what he does now that the Chiefs grabbed Maclin and a few offensive linemen in the offseason. I will never understand why the 49ers traded him to KC because he is and has always been better than Squidward.

The dude is a warrior. People want to complain about him not putting up gaudy numbers but the fact is that he got it done and was clutch as fuck when we needed him the most. 6 4th quarter comeback victories including the biggest shoot out in NFL playoff history (no other game had 4 lead changes in the final 5 minutes of the game). If Kyle Williams doesn't turnover the ball on Special Teams at least ONCE out of the two times he did in the NFCC, Alex Smith is a TWO time Super Bowl champion.

Man I can't even explain how much I appreciate Alex. He's done more for the Niners than I think Kap will. Kap is a good player, but Alex is a good person both on and off the field with qualities that I can't see Kap having. Camp Alex is just one of the examples of his character. The Catch III - Unforgettable. The comebacks he made, and even his willingness to come back to SF after they "tried out" Peyton Manning. Wish you the best of luck as a Chief, Alex.
