My Dominican hairstylist told me that every time she would style my hair. Sweetheart, you can be walking around with messy hair. “ You have to get your hair done at least a couple times a month“ I looked back at her and told her I appreciate my curls. When my hair went from Straight as a Pin to full head of A3-A4 curls, my Dad started telling me I looked gross, I was lazy, I needed to shower more because my hair was messy/disgusting, and that I needed to brush my hair nearly everytime he saw me to the point where he dropped it and started asking "Have you brushed your hair today?" Yes. Yes I Did. My Mom has Wavy hair, and straightens it because she likes that, so I had no help. Seeing all of these kinds of vids validates the little child in me that got bullied by my parents for how my hair was (because if my Dad asked the "Did you brush your hair today?" My Mom would too and start commenting on my hair as well, knowing full well are ancestry). My Grandma was Native American and Irish 25% each, where my Great Grandma was 50%-50% of either side. They both had the beautiful black hair of Native Americans, and the curly curls of my Irish Great Great Grandfather.

Now, I manage it as best and as cheaply as I can, and my Dad has realized I don't care if I have just showered, haven't showered in three days, or wake up with incredible bed head, I'm ignoring him entirely if he makes any comment on my hair. If he can't keep his comments to himself, then I have nothing to say to him!

I relate a lot to this, I just found out that my natural hair type is 2b-2c (depends if we’re talking inner or outer hair, unfortunately) and I grew up in a fully straight-hair household. I was also told I’m lazy and just need to brush, so my hair always was huge from frizz. I recently have been trying wavy hair routines but they don’t work well because I need mousse and cream, but my mom refuses to get them because my “hair is not curly enough” for those types of products :(
@sabihaanur2 ай бұрын
My hair is mostly wavy as well. I’ve fingered coiled and brush style it on this specific day. But honestly speaking since I’ve started listening to my hair, my hair’s gotten healthier overtime ❤ you just need to keep trying different products and techniques.

I relate to you a lot! (But it's not the same situation. My hair was just straightened for years on end and ended up straight because of damage.) And honestly, my best reccomendation is to somehow get a few bucks for mouse. That's honestly your best friend when in those situations. That's how my mother finally got convinced to get me hair products. Because she slowly saw my curls coming in BECAUSE of mouse. But there's still the lingering problem that your mama may think the products are "making your hair curly" which isn't realy how it works- but yk, ignorance. But if you can't save up for a mouse, you could try and look for some jelly, water it down and add it into your wet hair and finger coil. Or maybe even hairspray on wet hair (that's how one of my friends did it. But idk if it'll work since he has curly hair in the sense of 3b or so) Idk, I invite you to be creative !

Colored on it w/ black marker just bc I gave a tint of blue. Even when I did leave, I really went from red streaks, to blond streaks to oh sh my parents r in town in no tine. Back to black. And then I had to paint my nails black. Anyways, I remember I had a friend who was half white/ half Mexican. Her hair was soooo curly. & She wore it in a pony tail all the time. And used like a bottle of hairspray to I guess keep the wifey strays down. & I really called her a helmet head. Bc even if she took it down, it was still in place. & Then she got a "perm"?. & To this day I think I half way still don't know ish about hair. I would've assumed the vid person had super super tiny curly curls of poof

If you have truly straight hair you can roughly towel dry it (while running to turn off the oven so your pizza doesn't burn (optional)), ignore it for >10 hours so it dries and then run a brush through it for 30 seconds in the morning and it'll still be impossible to tell if you straightened it if its in a half up-half down style - depending on how it was sat when it dried you might even get away with it down! Comparatively though, my hair genetics can destroy any attempt at curling it in under 30 mins - if its got any real length and not been permed.
