For late afternoon/evening Thanksgivings, a small make ahead brunch around 10 before cooking dinner might be nice! ❤️🦃

NEVER have heard of people leaving after dinner. My mom always had Thanksgiving. Family would come maybe 1/2 hour to 1 hour early and help put dinner on. Everyone brought something like cookies or desserts. After that, there was pie, desserts, coffee and visiting. It was nice.

We eat at 1 or 2p because we have a houseful again at 5 -7p. It becomes sandwich time evening and dessert

Why host dinner if you're in such a hurry to get rid of your guest. I can understand the getting there on time but what time you have to leave especially right in the middle of a football game. I'm sorry I hosted a lot of dinners and never ever had an expected time that anyone would leave they're welcome to stay and welcome to leave

I agree. I have never heard that you're supposed to leave right after dinner. I was always told just the opposite..."don't eat and run".

Exactly what I was thinking. My parents hosted Thanksgiving for decades when I was growing up and grown. We had dinner. Women cleared the table men and kids went to watch football etc on TV. Next was the fruit and nut round. My Aunt always brought a beautiful fruit basket. My Mom had every nut- in their shells- on the table with nutcrackers and picks. That was cleared up and pies and coffee came out. Nobody was ever looking at their watches either to leave or be hinted at to leave.

I’m confused with Hoda’s no, no. What? If she had to get up at 0400 the next day, then just go to someone else’s house for thanksgiving 🌸🌼🌺

I had a guest (2) stay for 6 hours last year…it was too long….there wasn’t a football game to watch…they just wanted to talk and talk and talk. I was the host and happy to have them for a few hours….NOT 6!

If you must shoo them out, give them a timeframe such as 1-4:00 p.m.

I have no problem with someone showing up empty handed. I have no problem with people showing up early or staying late. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that what Thanksgiving is all about?

A better tip is just be direct and say thank you for coming, I need to do xyz and what are your plans for the rest of the day/night?

Obviously these two do not cook. I can and have and did turn out a hot Tgv dinner from scratch. So I’m ready for them to show up early. That makes us happy. I have appetizers. We all share and chat. FYI. If you bring food. Hallelujah and how kind. Bring it. This is a family holiday. This is a holiday of bringing every human that’s needs you togetherness We had co workers. That never never admitted they were alone. So come on. !! Come on!!!
