How the heck was this battle a draw. I know you obviously wear the pom-poms for Thanos, but he was clearly outclassed by Odin. Thanos is tough, no question, but he was going toe-to-toe with Odin in Asgard. Thanos was on his knees. He wasn't totally out, but it was evident that Thanos was outclassed in that heavyweight slugfest. Sorry Thanos fans, even Thanos has limits. The fight could have continued, simply because Thanos has the will to keep fighting and as Odin explained while they were throwing down, Odin was aware that Thanos was capable of tapping into a nearly limitless power source. But Odin explained also in that story that he taps into similar reserves too. From how I interpreted the story, Odin was the more powerful entity between him and Thanos - especially when the confrontation between the two of them was in Asgard. Sorry Thanos fans, Odin was the more powerful. If it wasn't for the lady Sif interfering on behalf of the Infinity Watch, Odin was determined to whoop Thanos' behind even moreso. Odin won this slugfest. Thanos to a degree was a hero for once by saving Thor's life in this story.

I don't understand why this is so hard for some to comprehend. Thanos went because he knew Odin wouldn't listen to reason when they showed up, and the group would be destroyed in a matter of seconds... Which they were.. Thanos stepped in before Adam Warlock and a few others were attacked. He told surfer to accompany him. Odin is a arrogant and pompous old fool who would automatically assume they were there to invade asguard. Not only did Thanos take every mega shot from Gungnir, BUT he actually walked through one of the blasts and GRABBED gungnir, forcing Odin to destroy his entire city to get Thanos to let go... thanos stood up without a trace of blood, harm or even a stratch... and was about to unleash cosmic energy against Odin, when he was interrupted so the voice of reason explained to Odin their true intentions, and Odin apologized for his misguided actions. How in the name of fk, could this be an ass kicking? Thanos didn't go to kill Odin.. If he killed Odin, than Thor would have died of the warrior madness, which was the only reason he went. Jamison Pinard I've read this story through and through man! There are levels of power and at that time, Odin was a bit higher on the power level. Thanos not beaten or scratched?? From what the panels showed everyone, Thanos was on his knees while Odin was standing over him. Yes, a good portion of Asgard was destroyed in that battle. That's what happens when two super heavyweights in the Marvel Universe are throwing serious haymakers at each other. In the Blood and Thunder series, "Pip the Troll" transported Thor, the Silver Surfer and Valkyrie to his ship. Pip understood that the only person to stop Thor with the "power gem" was Thanos. I remember from the prior issue that Thanos was surprised that Pip transported them to his ship and confronted Thor when he started destroying his ship. He nearly destroyed Pip for showing up unannounced. Yes Thanos was off guard during that story and did not plan adequately like he usually does with his usual dark evil scheming. However, he eventually disabled Thor with some technology of his called a "Block of Force." Thanos also acknowledged that Thor would eventually break out of that prison because he had the power gem on his persona at that time. It was simply Thor not being able to completely use the power gem at the time, but Thanos did confirm that Thor would eventually break out of it. Which was the reason they went to Asgard to get the assistance of Odin. Now let's go back to the battle between Odin vs. Thanos. If you see Thanos the Titan on Bifrost ready to walk in on your turf (Asgard), what is Odin going to assume?? Let's not forget, Thanos when he had the Infinity Gauntlet was a threat to destroy most of existence with the snap of his finger. Do you think Odin is going to listen to reason with that Titan walking into Asgard. Let's also not forget, Thanos of course was no longer the wielder of the Infinity Gauntlet. During the fight, Thanos was indeed holding his own against Odin. Thanos even stunned Odin with one of his cosmic blasts after Odin casually slapped him back with one hand, nearly knocking him down. The video for some reason does not show that; it has been edited out of the video. Odin was holding back. I'm more than sure if Thanos had a methodical time of planning the battle, the fight would last much longer. But let's not forget, the fight was in Asgard, and Odin is supreme just about most of the time within the Asgardian dimension. Thanos fans comment that Odin cheated by blasting Thanos with "Gungnir" the spear. But Thanos fans forget that Thanos introduced foreign weapons in the battle first by encasing Odin in his "Block of Force." Which Odin easily broke out of. Odin blasting Thanos with "Gungnir" the spear was simply returning the favor. Thanos is a powerful being, Odin also confirmed that, but Odin was a bit more powerful than ol' puple puss during that confrontation. Thanos as predicted, got up and would not back down and wanted to fight some more. That's what Thanos does, he loves combat, but Odin was more than willing to pour on more of the Odin force if he had to. Which would have potentially risked destroying almost all of Asgard in order to continue fighting Thanos. Let's not forget, Odin has a purpose to the Asgardian dimension, which was why he was somewhat holding back. Thanos was getting beat badly. And he was slightly wounded. If you can't see that,...hey buddy I'm sorry. As I stated before, Thanos was considered an un-official member of the Infinity Watch, and was considered the hero in that story. If it wasn't for Thanos' help, Thor would have wiped out "The Watch" and Surfer while his "Beserker Rage" (Warrior's Madness) was out of control. In the final issue of the "Blood and Thunder" story, Thor acknowledged to Thanos that he was thankful. But also told him that Asgard was not the place for such an individual such as himself and asked him to leave immediately. I practically laid out most of the story to let you know I remembered this saga. It was one of my favorite cosmic stories. I'm just letting you now that at that time with not enough sufficient planning that the Titan usually does when fighting highly powerful beings that Thanos at that time was not on par with Odin. Odin was more powerful than he was. And as I said, they were fighting in Asgard. No way Thanos was winning that battle had it continued. If it had, Thanos would eventually be on his back and down for the count.

Keep in mind, the battle between Thanos and Odin took place in Asgard. Odin had a distinctive advantage in total power because of that. If the battle took place outside of Asgard, the fight would have been a bit more even.

I have the original issue of Warlock and the Infinity Watch #25. And have collected Thor stories dating back to its Journey Into Mystery days. Odin is supreme in Asgard. He's also extremely powerful outside of Asgard too. But his power gets weaker the longer he remains outside of the Asgard dimension. That info originally came from Stan Lee. Of course a new set of writers may have changed things up a bit. I noticed in some stories, Thor can survive indefinitely in outer space - in the end - whatever!! It's fantasy/fiction. In the end, writers have to sell books. Which is the reason why I stopped collecting altogether. Too many inaccuracies. Fans just like their characters to become way too powerful than they originally were supposed to be. And for Thanos fans, he's a powerful demi-god in his own right. But there was no way he was going to beat Odin in Asgard. However as Odin mentioned, Thanos was a very worthy opponent. As Stan Lee used to state - 'Nuff Said.
