So sad the Thor you described is long gone in comics and never existed in the MCU. This is why Thor was worthy of Mjolnir and what made Thor special. This is why Thor was created to be Marvel’s answer to Superman and created as a god to be stronger than the Hulk. This is why there was no reason to create Sentry. As much as I love Stan Lee, my Thor would have done strength feats like Sentry (and Superman) and did not depend on Mjolnir as much as they made him do. He would have been like Mightor from the Hanna Barbera cartoons and this Thor combined. Mightor has a magic club. He could fly without it and did not depend on it in battle. It was a balance between Mightor’s great strength and his magic club. Other that that, this Thor is everything you said and still great.

@Valentina Z. It is not my intention to reinvent the wheel with Thor. I have always said Thor should use his great strength more as he originally did when he was first created. And, I always wished they didn’t write him depending on Mjolnir as they have at times. Captain America didn’t depend on his shield as much as the writers made Thor depend on Mjolnir. Thor is suppose to be one of the strongest heroes there is. But, many believe he is nothing without his hammer because of the way he was written. And, I always wished Thor could fly without his hammer like Mightor, who ironically was created by Hanna Barbera because Marvel backed out of a deal with Hanna Barbera to make a Thor cartoon in the late 60’s. Mightor was influenced by Thor and created by Hanna Barbera because they were prepared to make a Thor cartoon. I actually knew who Mightor was before I knew who Thor was. And when I discovered Thor and Marvel comics, I actually wished back then that Thor was more like Mightor, who flew without his magic club and used his awesome super strength as much as he used his magic club. That has always been my wish and preference for Thor. As great as Thor is, he would have been even greater in my eyes if he was more like Mightor in that regard. Again, that’s just my preference because of the way I was introduced and impressed by Mightor originally as a kid. But, you are correct. Written and treated correctly, Thor is great as is. That’s just me being my super picky perfectionist self. I am like that about everything. I would tweak most heroes that I like.

I don't know....but did you know that this Thanos was simply a clone? Why all the playing around...give Thor the power he needs to do his job instead of going back and forth, Thor holding back from using his full power, you can't use that again the likes of Thanos and Mangog...its suicide. Thanos has beaten Thor over and over and over again. Why kind of father lets his son get beaten like that. Thor's was one of my favorites, but these writers now a days have no clue in what they are doing.

A far better version of Thor than Aaron's unworthy one. The latter one had a hard time fighting Mangog & it took lady Fosthor to save Asgard. :-/

Fernando072295 Completely concur. I love John Romita, Jr. from when I started reading comics in the 80’s, and felt he has great potential, but seems “sloppy”, for lack of a better word. Still LEAGUES better than Rob Liefeld and Todd McFarland... both of whom I can’t stand, art-wise. Todd does great Spawn/capes, but that’s about it. His faces are dreadful.

Dude, cosmic ghostrider is probably more powerful than normal 616 Thanos. Cosmic Ghost Rider is the herald of King Thanos, who is much more powerful. Cosmic Ghost Rider is like fusing Silver Surfer and Ghost Rider together. Plus he has the crimson chains of cyttorak.

In the 80-mid 90s there was consistant writing, but nowdays that is a thing of the past. Plot armor and inconsistencies abound.

Thor used weapons augmented with the Odin Force. And, if Thor is allowed to use everything at his disposal, he can beat Thanos. He temporarily beat Thanos in Thor #22 during this story arc by creating and drawing upon power from an Omega level storm, absorbing Thanos blast and firing it back at him with the anti- force. That is what Thor is capable of when written correctly. And, Thor has NEVER used the Godblast that once beat Galactus on Thanos. There are Thor haters at Marvel that don’t want Thor to be top dog and allow him to show his true worth. I believe it’s actually a conspiracy to make Thor weaker than what he is because Stan Lee and others originally placed Thor on a pedestal like Superman, and to also piss off Thor fans that loved Thor because of it.

This appeared in Thor #25 volume 2. It was the ending and finality of a great story arc. The whole story arc has also been collected in a TPB.

The way Thor knocked around Mangog, it would have been great to suggest that Thor had briefly went into Warrior Madness to have the strength to do pound Mangog that way and then use the Godblast in addition to Odin’s gifts to finally beat Thanos at the end. That’s what I would have written. But, that’s just me being my picky self. The story was still great and I loved it.

After Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos was no longer a nihilist villain Who tries to convince Lady Death to love him and became Adam Warlock's friend. This Thor story regressed Thanos into a mustache twirling cartoon villain, thats why Infinity Abyss deserves some attention

When Jurgens wrote this however, I can guarantee you he was trying to use actual Thanos. Starlin has a history of seeing things he doesn't like and rewriting them for his purposes of Thanos, which I can understand, as his creator.

At the time the book was written, it was the actual Thanos. Later when Jim Starlin returned to write Marvel books, he did not like how Thanos was written in some stories and books. Starlin retconned those stories and made all of Thanos characters clones. I always believed iIt was not just because of the way Thanos was written. It was also because Thanos was beaten by Thor. So sad. It cheapened one of the greatest Thor story arcs ever. I enjoyed it way more than the God Butcher story. I am not a fan of the past and future Thor storyline. I am only a fan of the current Thor. This storyline focused on that Thor. My only complaint was that Thor did not use the Godblast against Mangog and Thanos, even though he did use the Anti-Force. Thor did use the Godblast to defeat Zelia the Dark Gods Queen during the first story arc of Dan Jurgens run. Dan Jurgens run is one of my favorite Thor runs. Because, he captured the true essence of Thor and treated him like the valiant, honorable, and noble warrior that he is.
