Your discovery of T0P feels a lot like mine a few years ago. BTW, according to interviews, this early song has been credited as the point where the band turned a corner. After years of struggling to get traction and almost throwing in the towel, this song ignited their climb.

One thing I love so much about this fandom is you can be any age!! I found them at the age of 36 in 2014 and have never been treated like an “old disabled fuddy duddy” by The Clique. it truly is the best fandom 💛🌻💛 No matter our age, the music still slaps and resonates.

13:19 I found TØP when I was about to become a parent. I'm 36 now and I think that their music has helped me access some very stubborn but very hurt teenage parts of myself that I had been trying to heal in therapy for years but couldn't quite get to. I think her access point is music and art and I think that TØP was a kind of bridge between my adult self and teenage self. We both relate to it and come together there, I can have compassion for her and heal her through that pathway.

You’re becoming my favourite reactor to TØP. I get so excited when you post their videos. These songs get you in the feels cause they’re so relatable. I think this song is about God. If you notice, many times when he says, “I’ll be holding on to you” he’s also looking upwards and I think one time he also points up 👆🏼 when he sings it. He’s holding on to God to help him get through these difficult times with his mental health. Beautiful song and loved your reaction. Cannot wait to see your live reaction next 😊

As a songwriter, I've always interpreted the song as being ABOUT songwriting itself. Talking about using the left side brain, the Kaleidoscope of thoughts that are behind your eyes when you think of things that may take you to a dark place. Those memories we use to write out lyrics and tell our stories. But finding a way to not let them control you, rather you control them. He was saying, entertain my faith during that one part. In other words, hear me out hear what I'm trying to say, entertain my words that I'm delivering to you. He also says, " lean with it, rock with it, when we gonna stop with it lyrics that mean nothing we were gifted with thought." Conveying his belief that songs should always tell a story in a complex detailed way and not just be a waste of words and thoughts that don't go anywhere or mean anything. Anyway, just my 2 cents. Lol I love that you're so into these guys, they are true artists like no others.

Moments of clarity that come when a deep depression breaks, there's an energy and an excitement that's so pronounced after feeling so low and heavy. He's talking about having himself back from depression & he wants to hold onto it. The darkness keeps trying to drag him down but he's trying to hold onto the brightness and light. Entertain my faith---let me believe it can be ok, let me believe I'm going to make it through. Love this song.

yesss I'm so glad you finally did this video! It's probably my favorite TØP music video and I feel like it gets overlooked by the live performance (it's amazing but the MV is top tier). The second verse about the noose/leash is one of my favorite lyrics. The idea of taking something that can destroy you but turning it around and saying you control those thoughts is brilliant and beautiful. And to me the dancers represented his inner demons and he's trying to shake them off when he puts the 'leash' on and they fall away. And the 'you' in the song he's holding onto is God (you can see him pointing up). BUT of course it can be left to interpretation as always and everyone can relate to it. Loved your reaction to this one so much. I feel like it can be overlooked sometimes by the lore heavy songs.

This song has the most number of lyrics that really hit me, that I love the poetic essence of & that mean so much to me. I always forget they are all in this one song! Tyler himself talking about god in this but I love that, like you said, it can be interpreted in many ways. When I discovered tøp & still somewhat now, I was struggling with trying to keep myself figuratively alive… I’d lost my self, who I was for me & so many of these songs where he is talking to god can be used as talking to your inner self ..that’s where this hits me …me holding onto my side of me. Your reactions are honestly so wonderful it brings back that first life I saw in these songs

The speech with the Trees live video is Tyler speaking to the crowd before they play the song. Highly recommend listening to the whole thing. Working through the albums in order is always a good idea think because each album has a theme and a distinct 'personality'. Album order is Vessel, Blurryface, Trench, Scaled and Icy and then Clancy. (There are also two self-released records from before they were signed to a label and before Josh joined the band but I would start with Vessel and circle back to those if you want at a later time). We can let you know key songs from each record. From Vessel you've already heard Car Radio and Holding On To You and Trees. I'd suggest also Ode To Sleep, Migraine, Guns For Hands as they have music videos.

"T"'s uncrossed and "I"'s un-dotted” - A possible meaning is that he’s or parts of his life are incomplete. Another could be that he’s drawing lines, as in setting boundaries, since an uncrossed “T” and an un-dotted “i” are just lines. Loved your reaction and fun fact about the video production process. 🥰

I think you’d like their song ruby, it doesn’t have a video but the message behind it is beautiful. I think you’d really appreciate it, It was on their first album together as a duo “Regional at best” it’s not officially released because they got signed shortly after and just decided to take some song from there and add a few new ones, but backstory on Ruby. Tyler wrote the song about a little girl with down syndrome that went to the church him and Josh used to go to, Tyler talked about how much she inspired him. It’s such a nice song even if you only listen to it in your own time I love spreading that song around. We need more people like Tyler and Josh in this world

The BTS for this video is really interesting. I think you would like it. This was their first official single after they were signed to Fueled By Ramen. The scene with the noose really hit Tyler hard. The imagery and the symbolism was powerful … the dancers represented his inner demons and dark thoughts trying to pull him down. Ultimately he uses the music to contain them / break their hold on him. But I think the noose around his neck was triggered a visceral reaction. I think Tyler became much more hands-on in conceptualizing the videos after that.

When Tyler performed this song for Sirius XM kzfaq.info/get/bejne/mqhda7V-utjegHU.html, he added some insightful comments, as follows: "I'm an advocate for journaling. A lot of artists and song writers talk about how when they write songs it's like you're reading their journal. And though I get what they mean by that, I promise you it's not exactly like that. "If you read my journal it's a lot of nonsense, and there's no structure. And as I was preparing for this set today, I remembered an old journal entry that I wrote a long time ago. And I rarely ever crack open old journals, it's almost forbidden. "But I was looking at some old entries to remember where I was coming from, what kind of mind space I was in, and in 2010 there's this one journal entry I talked about 'I don't know if I'm supposed to be doing this music thing, its not really working now, there's really no light at the end of the tunnel. The people around me are saying their time is running out, and they wanted to move on to other things. And I started to wonder if my dream was not supposed to happen.' So you can read through the journal entry as I'm trying to figure out who I am and what I'm supposed to be doing. At the very end of it I write, 'I started working on a new song and right now the title is called Entertain My Faith. I'm excited about it. So I'm going to continue working on new music'. It turned into this song Holding On To You. "So it's really cool to watch where I was when I wrote this song, and what this song has become now today, for not just me but for other people." Listening to Tyler talk about his mind space when his former band mates were losing faith in the project, I interpret this song to be about making music, song writing and the belief you need to have in yourself when even your own mind is struggling to believe in yourself and your ability to succeed in music. Before Josh ever joined the band, Tyler and Josh connected. They talked all night about their music dreams and ambitions. They shared a mindset that has always been evident. Josh supports Tyler. He believes in their abilities, and keeps Tyler safe from his dark thoughts. It was this kind of connection, this self belief/ belief in TOP-project that Tyler was asking for when he cries out "Entertain my faith". He wasn't getting it from the old band mates, but Josh delivers. This song is about the music, and the struggle to create when everything, and everyone (including the yet to be named Blurryface) is holding you back. Viewed from this perspective, I find the song (and the MV showing his thoughts holding his mind in a noose) amazingly powerful. Thank you to Tyler's words for leading me towards this interpretation. Also Tyler has spoken about music being an entity with it's own morals. The music decides where it wants to go. It's magical thinking for sure, and supports my interpretation of how Tyler embodies the music in his lyrics. Thanks for letting me share my interpretation. Sorry it's so long.

@@charlesparr9576 i was stoked to see your interpretation. I don't know why more people don't view it as we do especially after hearing Tyler talk about it. There are many songs that I view as being about the music , and the song writing process. Beyond the obvious Chlorine and Pet Cheetah, I have music based interpretations for trees, heavydirtysoul, and Formidable. Trees is about a live show to me , and I base it on comments that Tyler has made, not about the song but in general. The audience with hands held high (yes, forest too), look like trees, but Tyler is trying to connect with one more person, who maybe came with friends. If he can make that person pay attention, he's succeeded as a performer. But that's just one take on trees. I actually have several. |-/

'Entertain my faith' is what he's singing in that beautiful falsetto, and he wrote that part when he was 17. That and the flip of the leash verse are what make this song for me. I interpret the dancers as his inner turmoil or demons surrounding him, trying to control him, weigh him down, hold him back, all jumbled around like a chaotic kaleidoscope in his mind. And to 'take the pain, ignite it' is his attempt to take back control of his mind and body. To do that he asks us to entertain his faith, bare with him, while he cleans out this pandora's box of dark thoughts through his art, his music, his introspective beats. This song is huge at shows for a reason. |-/ Perhaps you may be saving the mtvunplugged and Storyteller Performance for your Live stream before the Clancy Tour? If not, I highly, highly recommend those. Also, Addict with a Pen (UG Studio version), Truce, and Migraine are definites. I think that'll take you through the main songs from Vessel. For some older gems, I strongly recommend Oh, Ms Believer and Before You Start Your Day, both only lyric vid formats. Also Hometown (lyric vid) is a must, there are ties to previous songs and the Navigating plot in that one. And Fall Away featuring Dr Blum from Misterwives is great, it's the only live version of that song. And Kitchen Sink, lyric vid for 1st time viewing before a live. As for Trees @ Fox, the + Speech part is only so you can get the right vid since there are several out there. He gave a poignant little speech before playing Trees at that concert. Ha! I was mentioning my favorite older tracks, but they all are, really. Honestly, anything you do from them will be awesome and we will def watch. Even Taco Bell Saga. There, I said it. ❤|-/💛

@girlwithnoname956 that's not the interview I was thinking of, but yeah, I remember the one you posted one, too. Perhaps I conflated the two clips in my memory, he was 22 rather than 17, but close. I've looked for the clip I was thinking of but can't find it. It's one where he's not performing but sitting by himself in a room. Maybe he mentioned something in that one that was similar to the performance chat you posted, and that's why I've been thinking that. Either way, doesn't really matter. The point is that he's been extremely talented for a very long time and has, for me, a level of connectability that is unsurpassed by any other artist. No matter when he thought of it and wrote it, it's still my favorite part of this song, and it still means so much to me. 💛

There's a cool version of Heathens//Stranger Things from a festival in Romania. It's Festival footage so good sound and video. I think it's on TOP's KZfaq channel. Of course, you'll have to watch Heathens first. It came out between Blurryface and Trench. It was on the Suicide Squad soundtrack.

He always talks to the crowd before trees begins, so the speech is just him talking to the crowd. And sorry for all the comments :)

Trees live at fox is incredible so watch that and then immediately after watch the the trees live in poland lodz polish singing, something like that. It's entirely from the audience and it will honestly just make you cry if you're not already. Love your videos!! ❤ I hope you watch the live performance of this song at fox theater too, it's so good. There's another live I really like too, I can't rememeber which one but I'll look and try to come back! Edit: its live at newport!

i think he’s fighting death/ all the dark thoughts and feelings that can cause you to lose hope. i love this song, although after the line “ i fought it a lot” my kid said “i farted a lot??!” and now i can’t unhear it 😭.

Also... if you do album reviews... start at the beginning. Maybe 2 songs per video? You can start at No Phun Intended which is Tyler Joseph's album he made in high school in the basement. The straight into Self Titled. Listening to his growth as each album comes is so amazing! I can't wait.

The dancers were kinda Tyler's own demons. Trying to get to him, grabbing him, putting a noose around his neck. He is talking to God when he looks up. "I'll be holding onto you"

I support you doing full albums and if you do start with the first one which is before Josh joined. It is "self titled" then if you can find it "Regional at best" those are the first two. It would probably be best for you and your channel though to do them individually. Maybe you should do it all at one time but cut it up into individual songs and after each one do a supercut of the album.
Happy 4th of July 😂
