I’m a 65 year old mid length riding surfer from NZ, the comps at the surf ranch never looked that exciting on teevee but OMG that looked so much fun, just unbelievable, kudos to KS, what an achievement.

Yessah Dylan ! I used to surf w your uncle Scotty. I met him in Puerto Rico Christmas vacation 1984 with Hartley. Then he stayed my house in Hatteras a few years later and then ran into him after moving to Haleiwa in the 90s . Hope he’s doing good. Aloha and great to see you enjoying yourself living the dream.

Watching any surfing is about as fun as watching golf. Basically every single ride at Pipe looks almost exactly the same too. It's not like one guy's barrel is drastically different than another.

@nigeherr I do. I don't mind watching surfing because I surf, but I understand why surfing is not, and will never be, a popular spectator sport. It's just not that interesting after you've seen a few waves. Even for me, I get bored pretty quick. To each their own though. If you love watching it, good for you.

@@buzz5969 I agree that life without travel is like reading only one page of an atlas, it is just a shame that the world can no longer tolerate the extensive pollution of jet travel. However, your comment is about the exception to the rules, which are tolerated because of the need for even oppressive dictators to interface and derive income from the outside world. Even totalitarian places have crime, if that is your point. Just don't ever leave the protection granted by economic necessities. When I was in the Saudi kingdom, the English embassy was trying to negotiate downward the sentience of fifty lashes for a British woman who hosted a party at her residence inside the workers compound where alcohol was served and someone fell off the upstairs balcony. It was the subject of much conversation because fifty lashes would kill a woman of her age.

When I lived in Dubai back in 2008 it was common to see girls with tiny bikinis all over the local beaches and at the waterparks, dressed pretty normally when at malls etc too, UAE is different to Saudi, they rely on tourism and a foreign workforce to keep things running as they know their oil wealth is finite, and have adjusted their laws accordingly.

I bodysurfed in most places where I could mange it, so I would hope I would not be short on available insight over my years of travel.and exchanges with working class locals. . I was always very aware of my privilege over the regular citizens of despotic countries because I was a part of the economic machine that fueled the economies of the privileged.and as such would have no trouble with local customs, from knowledge of what happened to the more lawless types of other Americans in the sailor trade. such men might see jail, but the consulate would have them out the next day, just as if they were rich. .

I fantasize about adding air sections to the wave by securing artificial reef obsticles to the floor of the basin. Underwater obsticles, temporarily configured to create a "slopestyle" or "street league" wave. Or at least a jumping off point so people can catch the end of the wave when the barrel eats the surfer. When are people going to be able to stand on the "sandbar" and watch surfing while kids are tubing around in that Lazy River in the foreground? So much arena needs to built around this basin. Really enjoyed the music.

I remember hearing lots of critic about the surf ranch in California because the amount of water used to keep the pool working, specially located in the middle of farm land, in a state that has longer and longer drought years, built far from water sources. I don't know where this new wave pool is located in relation to water (I looked at google maps and it seems not to far from water), and how they have addressed the environmental impact of the facilities regarding water, renewable energy, and the environment. I do think it would be cool to be able to learn to surf in a pool since it's a more controlled environment, but just because it can be build does not mean it should be built. Hopefully kids and individual with low income have the chance to have access to such facilities and the employees building the facility and the ones running it they all receive living wages. Thank you for your posts they are cool and inspiring.

Odd place for it, could use a couple in the States. Perfect spot in Jersey the have some like the world longest Naval pier.. If that closes that's be the spot!!!

Looks bigger than the ranch? How fast is the foil moving? If Dylan had his own boards, he would have surfed to the extreme! Not knowing a board is hard! Kudos guys! Aloha

Was bigger than the surf ranch. Longer too, not that they really needed to lengthen it 🥵haha Thanks dude yeah it’s already a lot of pressure being there on opening day (and wasn’t a guarantee that i was gonna surf 🥶) ended up being allowed to surf 2 full waves, and 2 half waves. Definitely just wanted to make each one count ! On slaters boards was 🤯 would love to go back and have a crack on more waves own boards 💯

Those muckrakers at Beach Grit sent me here. Noice. They were sincere in their reporting. I love weird waves! Is this the 1st successful artificial saltwater wave?
