Key & Peele

Key & Peele

4 жыл бұрын

A casual lunch chat becomes tense when a man calls out his friend’s annoying and awkward conversation habits.
About Key & Peele:
Key & Peele showcases the fearless wit of stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele as the duo takes on everything from "Gremlins 2" to systemic racism. With an array of sketches as wide-reaching as they are cringingly accurate, the pair has created a bevy of classic characters, including Wendell, the players of the East/West Bowl and President Obama's Anger Translator.

They have to differentiate the characters between sketches or else it might feel like some mish- mash of ideas in a continuous story. It also highlights to the audience that they are playing characters and not themselves.

Got a guy like that. Always tries to correct me (i then check and he is wrong), contradict me or to make small jokes at my expense, disguising it as a joke. I don’t let it fuck me over, but it’s still a pain to deal with those kinds of assholes who are just masking the fact they are losers and need to demean (or at least try to demean) someone else to feel they are better.

This is honestly one of the most important sketches they’ve ever done. People are made to feel crazy because they have opinions that they stand behind strongly. The person that agrees with everything people say has no true sense of who they really are, therefore making them deeply insecure, and ultimately makes them feel like they need to make other people feel the same way just to feel some semblance of security in social situations. It’s so toxic.

What makes key and peele brilliant is 1) Their depth of understanding of human behavior 2) The subtleties they capture with their incredible acting, both of them. 3) Their plain wackiness - they are just funny! We all feel the pull of deferring to the social group, especially as young people. It can be so painful that it causes us to renounce who we really are, and even to police others who dare to show some sincere authenticity and originality, embarrasing them into falling in line. The inner emptiness and loneliness lurking behind this behavior is captured in this skit more clearly than in a thousand psychology textbooks. Real genius!

This is my all-time favorite sketch of Key & Peele's. For many of the reasons being said here, but what I find funny is that my point of view of who is the "friend who makes everything awkward" has shifted between the two characters over time. Love the acting, writing, directing for this one. Jordan's acting as the very clear horror that dawns on his face when he realizes he has no opinion of his own and that he will be forced to admit it.

My work colleague is like this. And she always responds with “omg, that’s so cute!” Without listening to the rest of the story. So when my Nena passed away, I was trying to tell my other colleagues about why I was away the previous days and she jumps right in and says “omg, that’s so cute!” Never wanted to uppercut someone so much in my life.
