Actually, Saccharin was merely developed in Ira Remsen's lab, while the man who created it, Constantin Fahlberg, rightfully patented and gained income from its production. Ira merely spread the rumor that he made the discovery and it was stolen from him as a consolation to the fact that he was jealous someone working under him was able to make more profit using Chemistry than he was.
