Hi everyone, welcome back to my pottery channel! Today, I'll be showing you how I used a mould to make a plate.
First, I prepared a slab of clay using a slab roller, a rolling pin works just as well. This ensures that the clay is evenly thick, making it easier to work with.
Next, I carefully placed the slab of clay onto the mould.
Using a wet sponge, I gently pressed the slab into the mould.
With a trimming tool, I cut off the top part of the excess clay. This will define the plate's rim.
I then used different tools to compress and smooth the clay, making the floor of the plate firm and even.
Once the plate was shaped, I applied a layer of white porcelain slip. This not only enhances the color but also prepares the surface for carving.
After the plate dried to a leather-hard stage, I carved patterns into the surface for adding a personal touch and makes the plate unique.
And here is the plate! A handmade plate with a unique design.
