Interesting fact that never is mentioned- Big Edie's two sons Phelan and Bouvier (Little Edie's brothers) were both successful professionals who tried repeatedly to convince their mother and sister to vacate and sell the dilapidated mansion. To that end, they refused to loan financial support for repairs or utility payments. After the Health Dept. raid, cousins Jackie and Lee paid for the repairs needed to allow the women to remain at Grey Gardens. Afterwards, younger brother Bouvier reluctantly paid the back taxes in the estate.

The other family were embarrassed into paying for the clean up after it was spread across the newspapers, I wonder if they carried on paying for all the utilites and sewerage costs? when Little Edie sold the house they had to remove all the floorboards to rid the house of Cat, Raccoon and everything else pee and poop smell

Lois Wright said: "Little Edie's accent is cultured crossed w/some NYC". Maybe Lois was saying 'cultured' because Edie Jr. studied in a private school w/a little NYC accent of course she stayed there too. Edie Jr. speaks too like her 1st cousin Jackie O. I guess that's a Bouvier charm...those whispering voice. Noticed also when Edie Jr. had a temper she speaks Southern. I think her accent has that British too. Some say the way she moves & speaks sound so theatrical.

It was. Edie’s accent has more NYC than Jackie’s but that elegant whispery voice and unique inflections are still there.

The Edies were shunned. Big Edie brought up her son as a girl. Little Edie is a man. He once burnt his hair off in the playhouse as he didn’t want to be a girl any longer. This explains the eccentric behaviour of mother and daughter ( son) and the scarves around the neck and face. Also their lifestyle. Big Edie did have boys but it is rumoured that they were adopted as Big Edie couldn’t have children after having little Edie. She had a pathological need to have a girl. It’s all smoke and mirrors, subterfuge, but the fall out must have been terrible. Actors caught on the stage and never being able to leave. Sad.
