For our ONE MILLION SUBSCRIBER video, I do something different with my Final Fantasy X review. It's been an insane journey and I can't wait for what's next.
Subscribe: bit.ly/SubscribeThatOneVideoGamer
Final Fantasy X is what solidified the JRPG genre for me. With its cinematic elements, improvements on previous games, it opened up and showed the potential of the Final Fantasy Universe. And the Final Fantasy X HD remake helps gives this game the attention it deserves with an visual update, and many many new challenges I'll have to complete. This game holds a special place in my heart, and be sure to stay until the end because it gets a bit sappy. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, tuned in each week, and kept this dream going. I'm forever grateful for each and every one of you and still can't believe that we made it to one million subscribers.
Let me know what you thought about my Final Fantasy X HD review!

@Zeeko Zappo Games need to update with the times.... you can't just keep making the same type of game year on year and expect to stay relevant. Most people don't want turn based combat outside of Japan, they want something a bit more complex and stylistic... its not about being Vapid - you can still have open flowing combat and a complex story and refined battle system that provides enough flexibility and challenge to be exciting.
@jamescalder5115
@jamescalder5115 3 жыл бұрын
@Zeeko Zappo Just because you want to believe everyone is dumber than you for enjoying something that you don't... doesn't make it true. Just because a game doesn't have turn based combat doesn't mean it can't have depth and doesn't make it garbage - FF7 remake has a lot of depth and flexibility with the Materia system and the new ATB system - it has a reasonably lowish floor to make it appealing but it has a high ceiling if you want to push it to its limits and try to challenge yourself... It has depth especially as it goes into more detail about Midgar, wall market, etc than the original did. Its not just about appealing to the "Masses", due to the inherent change in the RPG market with more games focusing on fast and Fluid combat in an open world rather than a slower turn based system they have adapted - games have changed over the past 10 years and you have to move with them unfortunately. But more importantly just because the game doesn't appeal to you doesn't make it Vapid/Bland. I still love the original final fantasies (I have every FF ever made) but I can also appreciate the newer ones as well.
@jamescalder5115
@jamescalder5115 3 жыл бұрын
@Zeeko Zappo Again just because you don't like it doesn't make it Vapid or Trash. The original FF7 story wasn't anything special either - it was an anime storyline just like almost every final fantasy... they are anime storylines (usually with nods to Environmental impact or Corruption). You also have to remember its only a third of the story compared to the full story we got in the original FF7 so the 2 aren't comparable as its not a self contained story - you are looking at a 3rd of the painting. You say there is nothing wrong with enjoying "Garbage" but then proceed to call anyone who does enjoy "Garbage" dumb... which implies there is something wrong with it. The game was smaller than the original... which is why there is significantly less variety in Materia, characters and abilities... bearing in mind in the original you had the basic varieties of Materia and couldn't access half of the characters when you were in Midgar (No Cid, No Yuffie, No Vincent and No Cait Sith) but this is why IMO it feels "watered down" because they are trying to limit everything based on what you had in the original game (Only Tifa, Barrett, Cloud and occasionally Aerith) whilst still trying to keep the game deep enough. I never said it was Clever or brilliant but it isn't cheap by any stretch of the imagination The game has its flaws (I don't agree with everything they did) but I enjoyed the depth they gave in terms of Midgar and did enjoy the combat system, would I have liked the option of a turn based system... yes and I think that should have implemented it but trying to pretend the game is utter garbage is a bit of a stretch.
@jamescalder5115
@jamescalder5115 3 жыл бұрын
@UCX5b0yY4YfjJ39a_VBFZ0FA I read what you said "They’re looking to strictly appeal to the dumbed, vapid masses" thats you not calling people dumb then... FF7's story wasn't that great, especially when you look at the section this game portrays which is the opening section... you are looking at 1 section of a story and claiming the entire story is better than this one unfinished section. I meant FF7 is an anime story - which it is... its a quintessential anime story. My feelings aren't hurt at all - I just dont like when people imply that a game is dumb because they didn't like it or didn't enjoy it.

ABIT, you either have not played to that point or you're joking. In case you actually haven't played to that point, yet let me explain: You need to spam Quick Hit here to get enough turns to kill Penance's arms fast enough, so neither of them get a single turn. If they do get a single turn, they will inflict a status effect on you, that reduces your defence. If Penance then gets a turn, he will use Obliteration, which (due to the defence reduction) will kill you. He can also use another ability, when his arms are still alive by then. This ability WILL kill you.

12:44 Thanks for talking about this scene, Jirard. It always bums me out when people make assumptions about "how awful this game's voice acting is." Watching the scene in context makes a huge difference. And it's one of my favorite scenes in the game! There are so many powerful moments that have their seeds planted during THIS SCENE, and blossom into some real heavy plot points later on in the story. "If we should get separated... Just whistle. I'll come running. I promise." Thanks for completing this one, Jirard, and congrats on 1 MILLION SUBS!

THANK YOU! Seriously, seeing a few more comments about this has really made my day. Also, you are the first to point out the bigger moment in that same cutscene (that I have seen in this video's comment section that is). The laugh was just a snippet. That never gets mentioned again outside of that scene, and even then the most that anyone does is make a snarky comment about how weird it was and then move on. The whistle though... that is the most important part of that whole scene.
@insomniacat27
@insomniacat27 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly! It leaves me grinding my teeth when I hear people genuinely take issue with the voice acting based on that scene which is likewise taken out of context. On top of it all. I always felt there's a point to be made that while Tidus is trying to make light of the situation. Yuna isn't aware that, Tidus at the time is unaware of her fate at the end of the journey. It's rather dark. He thinks he's trying to lighten up what's just a long journey, and instead is helping her through accepting her own death. Kinda making it more awkward considering the idea of it all being a death march

13:08 THANK YOU! I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS! It is an awkward scene... BECAUSE IT IS MEANT TO BE AWKWARD! And also, the scene lasts maybe 30 seconds. People who point to that as a reason why the game is bad are really grasping at straws. If 30 seconds of a game can determine if it is good or bad, I guess I should know if I'm going to like a game as soon as I turn it on, right? If I don't like the logo of the companies that took part in making a game, the game must be trash, right? ... sorry, that particular topic has been a bit of a sore point for me simply due to how much it gets sited as a reason to diss the rest of the game. If you don't like a game, you don't like it. No need to grasp at straws trying to make people who do like it look bad.

@@TheRezro How is it a dumb scene? To me, it was a really emotional moment. I felt with Tidus, the previous scene had me just as confused and sad as he was. The laughing scene turns the current mood of the story. They're both feeling down, and they probably just wanna wallow in their misery, yet they force themselves to laugh, and it slips into something genuine. Of course the forced laughter is going to sound stupid, have you ever tried literally laughing out loud while depressed?

They haven´t played it, people saw the scene isolated, out of context , in some comedian youtuber´s negative roast of the game 15 years after the game released. Then suddenly they are geniuses entitled to hate the game blindly and always repeat the meme asociated with the game. Same shit happened with FF8, roasting the game became popular years and years after the game actually came out , but at the time period when it was released it received great critical reviews and was beloved by the gaming community.

Why I love ThatOneVideoGamer and Jirard. 1. They love their community. I have never heard one bad story of this crew, let alone the bearded man himself. I am happy to be part of it, and I cant wait for more. 2. Their videos are extremely high quality, with a good mix of seriousness and funny moments.I have never seen one screw up, that the team hasn't admitted to and fix in the next video. 3. I honestly love Jirard and his personality. Hes charismatic, charming, and inspired me to keep my beard un-shaved. Hes a person I aspire to be like. 4. I admire the dedication to his and the teams craft, after having to remove his first 120 episodes (which I wont mention why here) they are re doing them to give them the make over they deserve, and to make sure no episode goes un-remembered. They love their history, and they are not giving it up anytime soon. and 5. They love their fans and we love them. As a diehard fan, it was tough because it was such a long, hard and thorough death. While I wasn't on Patreon, I stuck around to the very end, the last Reb Brown month. The bipolar issues, channel awesome departure drama, his control freak issues in response to his fans (toxic or otherwise), that's all secondary for me. What it all came down to is he just stopped making videos and shifted to mediocre streams. And then for months on end he'd stop doing everything. He had a unique voice, but he just stopped. The #1 source of his issues is he gave up. And I feel for the guy, because giving up on doing something you're great at is a tragedy. Edit: And congrats to Jirard on the 1 million. This vid brought tears to my eyes seriously. My personal history with FFX mirrors the feel of this video, my best friend since middle school and I used to stay up all night playing this game, taking turns with one of us being the player and the other being a navigator. We would trade off during the side quests, putting in shifts till the job was done. This game showed me a talent I never knew I had, when I would find items hidden in the map that were not even in the official strategy guides, just because something in the terrain looked out of place. And later in life, as I introduced my wife to video games, this got to be her first real FF title, and I got the pleasure again to be her co-pilot. Making the romances and work that much more real to us in our lives. One day I even hope to put a controller in the hands of my child and take on the guide roll once again through the land of Spira and those who dwell in it. Thank you Jirard for reminding me why I do what I do, and why I love video games.

@Mr. Seemingly Expected You clearly don't seem to get the situation. It's not ignoring the problem, quiet the opposite. There is a huge problem yes, but what brings it to be constantly worried and being depressed about it? They are laughing to keep strong, to stay positive no matter how hard it's get. They still have joy that keeps them going and motivates them even more to fight the problem. And this is not as easy as you may think. And this is something that also part of real life. Life can sometimes be shit and awefull, but what brings it be constantly feel down because of that? Just being sad about it doesn't bring anything, it doesn't solve the problem. It pretty much makes it worse. And is actually more a form of "ignoring the problem". Still having joy, still being able to laugh and keep going, even when times are hard is one of the most difficult yet strongest thing a person can do. If you had the slightest idea of depression, you would know that.

Oh god thank you so much. This makes me so happy to know I don't need to [depressing spoilers]. I haven't finished the game since the first time because it genuinely hurt too much having to do that.

@@Clawdragoons Don't thank me. I just did some deep dives into KZfaq to double check my facts. And I mean DEEP dives. I couldn't find the original video I learned it from, but I was able to confirm that it still works in the HD port. However, said trick doesn't come into play until AFTER the Boss Gauntlet. -_(\ I am so sorry for getting your hopes up. Clearly my memory isn't what it used to be.

I think XIV has some of that charm, still. Yeah Enix comes in and kills it a little, but Yoshi P really saved it, and I feel his heart is in the right place.

I don't know why there is a lot of hate on ff 12. In my opinion, it stands on the same level as ff 10. While 10 brings with it a constantly briliant story with addictive gameplay for it's time, 12 brings with it a different sort of story that has its own charms. The combat might be a lot more mixed than the previous titles, but the combination of story with the theme and fantastic voice acting give it something that you can't really see anywhere else.

There is something different and unique about FFX's art style I could never put my finger on until someone pointed out it was based on Pacific Islander culture. Not very many games do this.

One of my most vivid early memories is watching my older brother play this game for the first time and being totally blown away by how real it looked and how huge it was. I spent countless hours watching him play and even as a 4 year old who didn't know what was going on in the story or anything, I loved spending time with my brother and just looking at the amazing characters and locations and its all stuck with me since

Thank you for presenting the ”laughing scene” in the proper light. I didn't for the longest time understand why people found it ”cringy” but it's safe to assume people just have never played the game.

I've beaten the game multiple times and completely understand the point behind the scene. I still find it cringe-worthy and awkward to watch. You don't have to misunderstand something to dislike it. I have full context and still mute this scene whenever I play the game. It's cringy. Same with the lake makeout scene.

Crawling Khaos I think it’s meant to be cringey. You’re watching someone force themselves to laugh, especially when you know their trying to relieve themselves of emotional pain and stress.

I remember the first time I clicked onto your early videos. Just a guy getting into watching KZfaq more than Netflix or even regular TV. Video game reviews are plentiful, but this particular video game review is a dime a dozen. Watching this channel grow to what it is today is very heart warming. From time to time, I would go into the comment section and ask why hasn't this channel reached a million subscribers yet. That day has finally come and I couldn't be even more proud of That One Video Gamer. Keep doing what you guys are doing. Thanks for all of the memories and I cannot wait for even more videos to come
