Forged rods from factory. Internal are pretty strong on the N54. Just plagued by the fuel pump issues. Owned one for ten years they make good power and the steering feel with the hydraulic pump is what makes the car.

The N54 is literally the modern 2JZ. Edit: (I retract my statement, the B58 is the modern 2JZ) the N54 just so happens to withstand similar power on stock internals & block like a 2JZ.

@@g.wes.3906 That's only the people that don't know what they're doing. Unfortunately, that describes a lot of the N54 crowd. Replace some cheap gaskets, throw on index 12 injectors, and change spark plugs and coils when needed. There are some other small details, but it's really basic stuff.

@@zachmayock i find it a very easy motor to work on once you have the right tools, i have lost count of how many i have owned, buikt, worked on etc and to this day still having oil leaks and misfires. Its just how it is.

@@g.wes.3906 I just don't understand. Idk maybe I'm one of the lucky few, but out of my '07 335, '08 135, and '08 535 none of them have endless misfire issues or leaks. The 135i has no leaks and has never had a gasket replaced (only about 60k miles though). Stock turbos FBO. 535i is bone stock and has actually been the most problematic. VCG, OPG, and OFHG all developed leaks pretty early. Quite a few other problems. 335i is on RB Twos Plus making about 550whp. Had a VCG leak years and years ago. Leaking injectors upgraded to index 12. Replaced entire cooling system, OPG, OFH, and some other stuff last year (no issues just all done as preventative maintenance while a bunch of upgrades were done). Only misfires are every 8,000 to 15,000 miles when it's time for plugs and/or coils. The N54 really isn't that problematic. It definitely CAN be, but it's an old enough engine that long-term aftermarket solutions/fixes exist. There will always be the unlucky few and the internet has a tendency to blow things out of proportion.

Eh I don’t see that as a positive, I like BMW as a whole but Toyota completely agreeing to rebrand a Z4 top to bottom as the new Supra is just an insult to what the Mk4 was. If anything they could have assisted them with the drivetrain and left it there.
