While they weren't actually related, they were the first group to be called "blue-eyed soul" back in the day. They got their name when, playing at a military base, some African-American marines shouted out "man, you sound righteous, brother!". The name stuck. If you watch the very beginning of the video, it states "December 1964". If you liked this song, then check out Soul and Inspiration; it was written by the same writers as Loving Feeling and they wrote it as a follow-up to the success of this song. Soul and Inspiration also peaked at #1 for three straight weeks in 1966.

Ruffin was just starting with the Temps when this song was recorded, so they were on the charts at the same time for the next few years. This is one of the Righteous Brothers' first TV appearance, and most kids had only heard them on the radio and probably thought they were black. That's why the clever intro, with them in the dark in the beginning of the song, then lighting them up one at a time. Their influences were the same ones we all had in those days - the blues and soul singers of the fifties. The term "Blue-Eyed Soul" was invented for them.

There's a ton to think about when you perform together, harmonies, singing in unison, understanding the play and dynamics of what you can do individually and together, knowing when to give the line to the other guy. Not to mention knowing when to step back entirely and have the other guy sing the whole song, because it just feels right. These guys are total masters of that whole deal. Very sad to learn here that one of them is dead, beautiful singers.

This song came out in 1964. The Temptations and The Righteous Brothers were contemporaries. I saw them twice on the same bill during the time. The Temps were doing "Why You Want To Make Me Blue" and "The Way You Do The Things You Do". They both came after Smokey Robinson had his first hits such as the great "Ooh, Baby Baby" and "I'll Try Something New". David's voice was rougher and he had an amazing falsetto. Bill Medley is still alive and occasionally performing today at the ripe young age of 80 years. Bobby Hatfield died in 2003.

This song was 1965. Wow David Ruffin. Incredible singer. He was around then. He was singing with The Temptations '64 to '68.

Good old Blue Eyed Soul brother. I am so pleased to see yet another young person enjoying these classic beauties from 55 years ago. BTW, 1965.

Bill Medley from the Righteous Bros and David Ruffin were contemporaries born just a few months apart. Ruffin’s career started in 1958 and Medley’s in 1959.

I remember when they were big! This is what was called "BLUE EYE SOUL " This came out in the mid 60's! Check out "THE ICEMAN" Jerry Butler! One of my favorite is "Let It Be Me " he sings it with Betty Everett! It is one of the best Love songs! The 60's had some of the best music. But then that is when I was in school! I don't want you to misunderstanding me, this Old white man just loves good music. Don't care what color, just the music that matters to me! Early James Brown, Four Tops, Beach Boys, Four Seasons, and to many to list. Just love the good old music! It is good to see younger people find out about the music I love. If you go back to the 50's and 60's you may find some great music! There was no music videos, most of them were not on TV. We don't care what they looked like, just loved there music! The music was all we cared about! I just thought of a offbeat song for you, "If You Want To Be Happy For The Rest Of Your Life Don't Make A Pretty Woman Your Wife " it is kind of funny!

This song is from my generation. I love to see younger people's reactions to my era of music. Glad it still brings joy! 1965 my friend.
