Ahh, Pulse. Grab your crash helmet. Buckle up. Try to prepare yourself but no matter what the fundamental truth is: You. Are. Not. Ready. Because nobody is ready for Gilmour's solo at that concert. Pretty sure David Gilmour is an avatar of Apollo for at least those 10 minutes.

Yesssssssss you’re feeling the emotions. This era of album rock has not been matched for its sheer humanity. Lyrics with meaning, singers and instrumentalists without auto-tune or other fakery, and creative song structure. No mystery why these songs are as fresh today as they were when the vinyl first dropped. 🎶🎵🎶🤘🏼😆🎸

David Gilmour is the king of string bending. That's why all of his guitar leads are played with such deep emotion. That's enough to make you cry
@chrisd70474 жыл бұрын
Not only the string bending, but his entire style of soloing is different from almost every other rock guitarist that I can think of. If you look at a list of the greatest guitarists, most of the list will be filled by people known for playing fast. Eddie Van Halen, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jimmy Page, Steve Vai, every metal guitarist.... David Gilmour is on the other end of the spectrum. Very minimalist in the number of notes he plays. There's an old adage used in engineering that applies to Gilmour: "perfection is achieved, not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."

You done did it now. The wormhole awaits you. One word of advice. Pink Floyd albums were written, played, engineered and produced to be heard in their entirety. 2 PF songs in and you seem to get “it”. Don’t waste the opportunity to hear how they were meant to be heard. The proof is in all of the other reactor communities comment sections. Go look at all the comments from them and see if the overwhelming message isn’t, “ you need to listen to the whole album whether it’s Animals, The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, The Wall, or Meddle. They all are themed concept albums.

I couldn't agree more. Pink Floyd is an amazing band whom albums are meant to be heard as a whole piece. Obviously too long for a reaction channel video. But, just for a personal voyage into what a journey this band can bring you on with their music. I play guitar and bass. I have been learning their music for over 20 years and I can say it was and is, the hardest thing I have done musically. Their music while not being over flashy is well thought out, very complex in its subtleties and just a pure pleasure to listen to and play.

At Pink Floyd concerts, they place speakers to the side and behind the audience. The sound comes from everywhere and you are immersed into the music. No such thing as a bad mix, you can hear every note. Couple that with amazing laser shows, flying pigs and at one concert I was at, a large plane came out of the rafters which crashed beside the stage. My first concert was in 1971, and cost $9.50 to get in. I think I like Dark Side of the Moon best, but I really like them all. In this genre, Yes, King Crimson and Genesis were also top performers. I like the saying, "You don't need weed to enjoy Pink Floyd, but if you smoke weed, you do need Pink Floyd". Times were different then. Recording time got cheap, bands did not care if the songs were longer than 3 minutes (a radio restriction) and so they wrote what they felt. They were also excellent musicians. I would recommend "Close to the Edge" full album and "Selling England by the Pound" (the song Firth of Fifth is amazing) but there is also much more mind blowing material. You will notice that these songs have time to develop "tension" using fast riffs with lots going on, alternative and changing time signatures and other ways of generating and releasing the tension in a song. You don't get that with 3 minute radio songs. I hope you enjoy this.

I grew up with these classic bands! Loved all things Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin! There were several more, Moody Blues "In Search of The Lost Chord" was a wonderful "trippy" album experience. Just start at the beginning and go to the end! Also, Deep Purple was one of the early ones that we all loved. You can't go wrong with any or all of these and you would still have more to listen to again and again! Another reviewer said that he was jealous of my generation having such great music to live through. Believe me, we know!

i'm glad you like Pink Floyd. a few things to note. first, their line-up changed and so their music evolved. so expect to be surprised. next, they're even better live. those solos varied a lot, as David Gilmour improvised a lot in their concerts. thirdly, both Gilmour and the bass player/lyricist, Roger Waters, have solo careers. Gilmour is my favourite. his concerts and solo works are just awesome, with those exquisite guitar solos. they're an emotional ride. enjoy the journey.
