Birds of Thattekad
A birding haven, the Thattekkad Bird Sanctuary in Ernakulam is the first bird sanctuary in Kerala and is home to innumerable species of birds. Over 300 species of birds have been recorded here and is the ideal place for birders and nature enthusiasts. Dr. Salim Ali, the Birdman of India and world-renowned ornithologist, recognized the unique avian life in Thattekkad. Established in 1983 and spread over 25 sq kilometers, the sanctuary is also known as Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary.
