-Sex isn't something to be earned. -The "no one is safe" excuse is incredible weak, because there ARE characters who will always be safe. -This show does glorify violence (300 people killed in their sleep, stray bullet, beheaded children). -He DID know about the trope, Javi, the writer for 3x07, said that they discussed the trope in the writers room while the episode was being written. Basically, he's not sorry, he's trying to save himself by turning the tide around and make himself look like he learned a lesson, but sadly, the LGBT community isn't here so straight white dudes can learn how to be better people.

They are not getting hate for the relationship, but for the way the baited the audience. Jason, knowing that Lexa would die, told people to their face that she wouldnt, sent one of his writers into LGBT forums to tell people that Lexa would live and to keep watching, invited fans to watch the finale filming knowing they would see Lexa and think she survived the season, among many other things. This is why people are so rightfully angry. He purposely misled an entire group of fans because he needed the ratings, and then killed their representation with a single bullet. Ps:Lexa was not "already doomed". They could have had the actress exit the show in a number of ways that did not include death via stray bullet, which matches the 'Bury Your Gays' trope to a T (see Tara in buffy, so many years ago. The scene is laughably the same).

I have often made the argument that characters don't have to die, and that it's lazy and uncreative writing that leads writers to not find ways to write characters off a show w/o having them die. In this case, though, I have begun to wonder how they could have done it. The only way I could see it is to have Clarke return to Arkadia and have the rest of the show take place there and to write POLIS out of the story. Do you have other suggestions for how they could have written her off while keeping her alive, but never having Clarke (or anyone) interact with her?
@DonnaBrooks

+W.W I have mixed feelings about all this, too. I was reading a Spanish site review of 3x07 and the "reviewer" kept interjecting, "Fuck you, Jason!" and, "You do not deserve Lexa," and "You do not deserve Clarke," as if Clarke & Lexa existed somewhere and were doing Jason a favor by letting him follow them around with TV cameras! I never got around to replying to the post, but I wanted to point out that if not for Jason, there would never have even BEEN a Lexa, or even a Clarke, much less a Clexa. (My grief is over losing Clexa, not just Lexa, *because* their story had been so well-written and their characters so well-developed and Eliza & Alycia were so talented and it's rare to get all that to come together in a love story). It just didn't make sense to me why they would invest so much into telling their story to have it end so soon. So while I was angry too at first, I couldn't understand all the hate directed toward Jason, and to a lesser extent, to the writers. They gave us Lexa and Clexa and a bisexual lead in the first place.

+slikpont of course she's more than her sexuality; as lgbtq+ people, we already know that. but this entire issue IS an "lgbt thing". when you have a gay character on tv, in today's media where a very, very small fraction of characters are canonically gay and even fewer get happy endings, you have a certain responsibility. we're not reacting like this just because we love lexa. this is because jroth and some of the crew were going into lgbtq+ spaces online and promising us that lexa wouldn't die. this is because they actively encouraged lgbtq+ viewers to put their faith in this CANON LESBIAN COUPLE, something we definitely don't get often. this is because they had an infinite number of other choices; other paths to take with a very dynamic character. and instead, they chose to kill her off; not only right after reuniting with clarke, but by a *stray bullet*, aka the same way that tara (from buffy), another lesbian character, was killed off.

Alex Jiménez I wasn't talking to you, but thank you for replying. If you look at the season 4 trailer you can see that the video got disliked about 3k+ times. Apparently there was a Tumblr post about Lexa, and about how she deserved a better death so people decided to protest by disliking the trailer or whatever. I don't know where you can find the post, I tried to find it but I don't have Tumblr. Clearly fans are still pissed, and this subject is still relevant to some people. I don't care about Lexa's death, it hasn't affected the show only the fans.

Five years later, the main thing I get out of this interview is that Jason just didn't get it, he never did, he never will. Yes, how Lexa died was particularly painful, but it's the fact she died at all. It's the fact that you spent a season building this epic LGBT love story with two powerful female characters, only to just axe one. Jason saying he still would have killed Lexa, just in a different way, proves he didn't actually pay any attention to the "bury your gays" trope. Just ludicrous, really. Still angers me to this day.

I don't think he actually understands how upsetting his choices for that episode were. "I understand this... I understand that..." isn't enough. If he had actually got the reaction he would've addressed the situation within days not three weeks later. And for him to list things he wished he would've done differently only tells me he wants to put down the fire and silence the heavy criticism that hit him square in the face, but it's not going to work Jason. Your reckless attitude will put your show down, wait and see!

@@narayastarks People die in shows a lot and I usually don't get upset because it's pointless. The case of Lexa is completely different, though. Considering how they build-up of Clark and Lexa's relationship and first time and the hype they put on it at the time, the fandom was buzzing with excitement. Also, it hurt a lot the LGBTQIA community (ClexaCon exists because of what happened in that episode, basically) because, again, this was the stupid 'Bury your gays' trope that is only now being kind of left behind given the huge backlash that happened after 3x08. The death wasn't the problem (The 100 literally thrives in killing important characters to drive the story forward and that's usually fine), but how what happens prior to it and specifically how she died that brought an uproar of grief and anger directed toward Jason. And I wrote a lot again. Hope it helped you understand it. PS.: I forgot to say there's also the Lincoln situation. What he did to the Ricky Whittle is absurd, to say the least. So it's not only about Lexa for me (though I can never forget how this happened and how it affected me) but also the whole disrespect toward Ricky and Lincoln as well (whose death is horrendous, btw, especially for a person of color).

+Sasha Cook I know what they did, and it made me sick to my stomach. But there actually is a reason they said she wouldn't die. Lexa isn't dead. The point of the scene was to show she was an AI. She is still alive in the chip, and Clarke is going to be able to see her again in a form of the City of Light. Their story is not over, not at all. Even with Alicia off the show for now, there were leaked pics of her with Clarke in the AI world. I knew what Jason was doing with the story. He's basically doing Battlestar Galactica: Rise of the Cylons. The whole point of Alie and the City of Light is to create replicas of people who will never die. It is an infinity story. They absolutely screwed up with what they did and the way they have presented it, they definitely baited and hurt alot of people, but it's not over till we see what happens with the chip. Lexa really isn't dead, just her body is gone. But she lives in that chip and in a Matrix.

Full of bullshit excuses right now. Less then a week ago he said he would change nothing. That the only regret he had was the way he promoted the episode and thats it. He has made multiple references to 'Buffy' on twitter in the past. Javi, the writer of the controversial episode said that the 'trope' had been discussed at length in the writers room but they (aka. Jason) went ahead with it anyway. An actress on the show complained about said trope to Jason before it was filmed and he basically shrugged her off. He didn't expect the backlash to be a big as it is and thats the only reason he is even giving people THIS much to say. Had the backlash been smaller and the LGBT community had no support from others, he would be laughing and kissing his own ass about his precious and 'original' A.I storyline. ps. it aint original and it's certainly not groundbreaking.

I think that if we step away from the cultural meaning of the character. Her death and the way it happened makes sense. ( and before I get accused of all kinds of things that’s just my opinion n I’m talking about it purely about the character n not what having that representation means to a lot of people) but let’s not forget that the actor has in another show and at some point ADC wouldn’t be available to the 100 and if the 100 would had drag her character to that point writing her off would have being more difficult n probably even more pointless. 2 the story wouldn’t have being able to take the turn it did with the AI and the flame storyline. And 3 lexa was a powerful warrior with the flame so a death in the battle field (maybe) but who would have kill her? The only way I see that happening is if she sacrifice herself to save Clarke. I like the stray bullet because that was the only time lexa would let her defense down and would have being vulnerable to any harm. It also play on her always being thought that love is weakness and yes love is weakness in the sense that it’s the only thing that can expose us and make us do things we wouldn’t normally do. It also play on Titus character philosophy. He was concerned about Lexas safety and making sure she was protected at all time, he thought her love for Clarke would get her killed yet it was his obsession that ended her life. Lexa was my favorite character but I get why she had to be written off and I’m ok that it happened like it did. Again just me personal opinion.

Eh... he was in the podcast with Jo Garfein, but he didn't acknowledge that he made mistakes, has yet to acknowledge how his team infiltrated LGBT safezones to quell rumors of Lexa dying or the actual pain he caused. An apology with a 'but' is an excuse.
@MyAnchorIsJesus
@MyAnchorIsJesus 8 жыл бұрын
+Baenemy tfw I don't think he should have to apologize for the actions of his colleagues. Unless there's proof that he specifically directed them to "infiltrate" the LGBT "safe-zones", there's no reason to put the blame on him for the choices of other individuals. THEY chose to do what they did; and, if he really *did* tell them to do that, they could have refused, making it their offense to apologize for. That's just my take on it, though, and everyone will assume in a manner that suits them personally. If apologies with a "but" are only excuses, and not genuine, then I guess we're all guilty of that and don't deserve forgiveness and/or the chance to improve from those points forward. Some people just over-use the word "but" and don't have any underlying secondary intention or implication in using the word, and some people use it because it is a valid term to use when explaining why something had to take place. (in this case, death: to emphasize the Season 2 establishment of reincarnation between commanders). Like I said though, everyone is going to interpret everything differently. I personally do believe he is sincere in his apologies for *how* and *when* that death occurred, even before this most recent letter. If another doesn't want to believe and/or forgive him, that's their right, but I won't encourage people to hang onto rumors or false accusations to try and emphasize or fuel their hatred/unforgiveness.

I'm really disgusted with this fandom. Saying the LGBT fans are angry because of a death in Buffy is just an excuse to blame the producer for killing their favorite character and killing their ship. Most of us aren't angry about her death but the way we were baited...they made us believe she'd be alive and even went onto LGBT forums to reassure us that she wouldn't die. And Jason keeps on lying because Javi said they all discussed the trope and the stray bullet thing in Buffy when they wrote the episode and Jason said he didn't knew about it or not enough and his job as show runner is to creat content that makes us feel things but not to the extends where it triggers people into self harm, depression or anxiety attacks. We're angry that he didn't reached out earlier to us like Javi did bc not it seemed forced and not necessarily trustworthy. Of course there black sheeps in the fandom but this is why 98% are actually mad.

+PrettyLittleTheories "the biggest thing that became clear was that fans were far more upset about the "infiltration" of fan spaces than they were about just Lexa's death. Bridges was clear on this point saying, "This has really been the worst case of a show exploiting its audience I've ever seen." "Strong presence online is great," she says, "but when you are blatantly misleading or misdirecting fans, that crosses an ethical line. And especially if you're infiltrating the fandom. It's entirely unethical, especially when we're talking about a vulnerable population of young LGBT fans who trust you." by German and Comparative Literature professor at Rhodes College in Memphis, Elizabeth Bridges. Yeah, somehow I don't believe him. Could of, should of, would of, sound like all excuses to me. This sound more like a show runner that only regrets the loss ratings.

"life is fragile" but just for lexa tho???? like don't say that no one is safe when we know that the main characters are safe. Raven came to earth in a fucking spaceship she had built and that had no chances of being useful. she is alive. jaha was in outer space with an astronaut suite when his fucking helmet broke and he still made it to the ship even though in reality he would have died in a second. jasper, fucking jasper, had a fucking spear across his chest for like 3 days and he is still alive. don't you dare jason

Wait! That's actualy not bad... I put a "thumb down" before listening but... for the first time a beleive he is sincere in his apologie. It doesn't make it better but I at least kinda feel like maybe he is starting to get it. I just want to give it to him for sounding sorry when he said the word "pain". He's starting to see the light. Maybe.

The "pain" part is the part i'm hung up on too... because it does sound genuine. But no when he refers to the experience as "uncomfortable" then no he's not getting it. He keeps talking about this in such minimising language hurt upset...call it for what it was traumatic and triggering. When he starts doing that maybe we'll talk.

+Rocio Molinar also there is no apology here. He never says sorry.

Rocio Molinar I get it. I'm not over 307 either and I'll make sure I never am. This will never be OK and it souldn't be. I just meant that somehow his "apologies" are getting better (to me that is). I'm not sure if it's honesty or pratice but it sounded right this time (to me again). I still want a proprer "I fucked up, I hurted you and I apologies for it", but he's getting closer to that.

I actually feel bad for him, or at the very least for his family; they're receiving threats, too. I don't like the guy, but damn. He's a human being. Maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but I honestly think he sees how terribly he behaved, and does regret it. I hope he does. It's a bit too late, but I hope he does. This is all a mess.
