Small mistake at 6:54 - We wrote that Elaine Thompson Herah has been undefeated in the 60 meters this season, when in fact she placed 2nd to Ewa Swoboda on February 22nd. Thanks for understanding!

I love Elaine Thomson as I love Shelly Ann Fraser; but I have too much faith in Shelly Ann, since she has been the only athlete to stay on top consistency for over a decade. And you don’t forget she ran her fastest time after she had her baby. I think she still has a lot more to give. I think both will dip under 10.49 & possibly Shelley first. Shelley, I think has more fire in her belly and can drop that fast time one Saturday morning up at Stadium. Elaine, I think needs the atmosphere and stiff competition to pop her best race. In any case...how lucky as fans we are 😎

Excellent assessment on SFP and ETH...I have tried to explain the difference between these two outstanding athletes before. Shellyanne is a masterful competitor. She not just compete against the competition but she runs how she wants to...her thing is to get away from her rivals and dare them to catch her. She runs her own race, as if she only reacts to the starter and no one else...her advantageous start that gets her ahead, could literally affect the focus of everyone else who must then try to catch her. Elaine has to adjust more to her competition with a tendency to be coming from behind. If you anyone can pass Shellyanne Fraser-price, they are most likely to win that race. It is a rare sight that Shellyanne is not in the lead. Elaine seems to strive off catching Shellyanne and if she is successful she wins...If both Shellyanne and Elaine had the same leg length who would win?

hmm since I saw FloJo break that record on TV in 88 as a kid I hope I get to witness history again this year. I would say ETH has the better odds because like FloJo it came down to the start since her second half was always insane. If she gets a SFP start, legal tail wind, a good race...yes she can do it. SFP has the harder road to the record because she already has the best start in history so cranking it even faster at the end when already going max speed would be tougher. The wild card is Shericka Jackson. Like floJo she has elite range from the 100m to the 400m so she has the speed and speed endurance. It could be the same as the FloJo record. Nobody expected anything big in that race. All the talk was about FloJo's sexy outfits and her decision to drop down to run the 100m. It was not even a final just a heat...no pressure. She got the best start of her life and it was history. I think all the pressure being on SFP and ETH could leave an opening for Jackson this year. They may get her records, hope they do, but if you ask me which runner I loved watching race the most...FloJo by far. That smooth glide of hers was magic to see and when she would smile before the finish you knew it was over. Toss in the wild sexy outfits she designed, the speed skating outfit with the cap, the hair, makeup, nails... the first woman who brought high fashion to track...she was the whole exciting package. The one and only flojo was a trailblazer that went beyond the records. ETH has the best odds in the 100m. Now the 200m is a different story. I think Mboma is a wildcard with better odds in the 200M because of her insane 400M speed & speed endurance. If someone teaches her how to get out in the start vs that disaster in the games where she walked out of the blocks but still got a silver in the 200m then you're talking. The 100m race is going to be great! The 800m is looking amazing as well. The 400m hurdles the same. So many awesome young women. Eugene is going to be lit. The guys better pick it up. The women are stealing the show again!

@@edgesdolezal6215 well when you have ETH and SFP sucking up all the oxygen it is easy to get overlooked. They are among the best of all time. ETH doubles again in the next games then she is up in the top 5 for both men and women up there with bolt, owens, lewis...etc Now if she medals or takes a title from ETH or SFP...look out. The floodgates may open but she doesnt have much time at 27 as there are a lot of younger phenoms coming up in Jamaica & rest of world. Not sure where all these amazing young women are coming from. If we put aside the sudden retirement of Flo-Jo at 29yrs old at her peak after the introduction of random drug testing (when she could easily have gone through another Olympic cycle), the fact that the faulty wind gauge during her "WR" run wasn't mentioned is a little disappointing! As a result of the wind readings in the races immediately before & after hers, plus the wind gauge for the LJ or TJ nearby, it has been estimated that the tailwind for her "WR" was around +4m/s i.e. twice the legal 2m/s limit!
@AuditingTheAbsurd
@AuditingTheAbsurd 2 жыл бұрын
Yep. Flo Jo did have incredible form and her retirement was certainly suspicious, but the record books show she still has that time. I agree that it was massively wind aided, her trainer stood in front of the sensor to shield it from the wind, in time her record will go, not sure if it will be this year though, as her time is such a challenge, it is almost impossible.

That's the issue with trying to compare different eras of time. Everything improves each era and yet 30 years later Flo Jo still hasn't been touched in both the 100m and the 200m?? Is that a coincidence? I think not. Flo Jo's record has survived 30 years of circumstancial improvements including performance enhancing drugs and yet she still remains. That is the mark of legendary greatness. No hate on my Jamaican sisters but the levels don't equal out.

There is more than even what you listed. Back in that era it wasnt easy to become a professional runner as we were still coming out of all the outdated rules about amateur status vs being a pro . FloJo was working jobs and had to drop out of college or running a few times. If your face wasnt on the cereal box after the games....you were struggling to get by on jobs that allowed you to train. Look at todays young phenoms - Run a year in college if that...turn pro, get shoe endorsements, train all the time, have the best coaches and tech, diets, medical attention...etc In 88 I remember the interviews before the trials. She was working 2 jobs, training at all hours of the day with her husband, money was always an issue, started training like a man - lifting heavy weights. Common today but not back then. There was a huge stigma back then about women getting muscles. Look at her body vs todays women. She is not out of the ordinary. JFP has bigger legs and arms. Jetter and many others now., Common. But in the day FloJo got all sorts of heat for adding muscle. If FloJo had come up today she probably would have gone pro right away and would have been a gold mine on social media & for endorsements because she was always well spoken, gorgeous, gave great interviews where she never bad mouthed anyone, she was an original and had the IT factor.. Thats what happened after 88 - she was a global phenom for products, the sport, tv, ads, business..etc She was everywhere making millions especially in Japan where she was a goddess. She trained less and less then finally retired to cash in. 29 was old at that time and hitting gold in 4 more years...low odds. Taking the money after struggling to get by all your life...seems like an easy choice. If she were running today. I have no doubt with todays ability to go pro, the new shoes, the new tracks, the money, the time... she would blow people away., Not even close.

Dude, this video was professional and intriguing, Great video. My only comment/prediction is Flo Jo's WRs are on borrowed time, the 100m & 200m WRs will most likely be broken @ Eugene, I think the T&F world will be in shock when we witness the times that will be thrown down, #1049 and #2134 will be a jog. On another note, to all the #flojo haters, not that it needed to, the women's '21 season did validate her other worldly '88 season.

After watching how Elaine performed last year, it's very likely that she could break the world record this year. If she can get a very good start like Jon Drummond or Jason Gardener, it'll be game over. As for Shelly, I'm not too sure if she can break the world record. If anything, she may run 10.5 this year. However, I could be wrong. All we can do is wait and see what happens this season. 👀

I can't run to save my life, even in my dreams I am still logging behind, but to my Jamaican athletes I pray for them because I am always in amazement to how they can achieve the speed they venture and achieve. With our limited resources, they would have been supermen and women if they have had half of the resources that their other competitors are accustom to. I love all my Jamaican athletes with my whole heart. Nuff love...now compete like you all feel in your hearts. Run faster than the wind that blow on our island, jump higher than the blue mountain, jump to jump over the cockpit country, race around the island from Negril point to Morant point, swim to outswim the crocodile in the Black river, now pass the baton like you pass food to the neighbors while out running their mongrel dogs who want a piece of a yoh !
