Thanks to Buyee for the dicsount voucher that allowed me to buy the top of the range Casio. What a watch. So many neat touches, and so light it is barely there. Quite blingy, and perhaps a bit smaller than I thought it was going to be. But definitely not my last encounter with the Oceanus range, definitely a bit special. Cheers, Jody

Hey Jody. I appreciate your videos and have been watching for sometime. I have a Casio Oceanus that I bought in 1998 and is still going strong. I was a lift engineer for 15 years and this watch has been on my wrist whilst drilling 14mm holes in Reba concrete. I have replaced the crystal as it was unreadable unless wet. I we never get rid. Great watch.

Thank you for this review Jody! Reading through some of the comments, I understand the general sentiment. I used to think the same way - $1000+ for a Casio is bonkers! But this is a watch that you can only truly understand after you've handled/owned it. While the Casio Edifice offers great value, the Oceanus is in another league in terms of fit & finish and quality. High-end JDM quartz watches are the pinnacle of luxury tool watches. They are objectively superior to any mechanical watch or Swiss quartz watch. They offer incredible precision through Radio/GPS/Bluetooth sync, the treated Titanium is lighter, stronger, and much more scratch resistant than 316L/904L steel, and the Crystal has some of the best AR coating available - most of the time you don't even notice the Crystal. With solar technology and a perpetual calendar, these are set-it and forget-it watches. High-end JDM quartz watches can only be appreciated after you've handled one. What Jody forgot to mention was that the successor to this watch, the new Oceanus S6000, is being released on October 15.

Seeing your comment, I can't hold it inside now :D - The date numerals are too high, not centered in the square. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, even have Casio Edifice EQB-1000D-1AER which has same features apart from being atomic and titanium, but costs 3x less. This one is over-priced a bit.

Thanks for the review. I have a Casio Lineage JDM watch (LCWM-100TSE) and it has many of the same features - titanium case and titanium bracelet, radio time setting, and solar powered movement and mine was less than $200 shipped from Japan so it is possible get many of those features at a much lower price. Of all of the Japanese watchmakers, Casio seems to be offering great watches at an exellent price as none of their competitors offer a titanium watch at the $200 price point. You normally have to step up to at least triple that to get a titanium watch.

Can't believe you didn't say anything about the date being really misaligned. There's a procedure in the manual to fix this. I suspect your watch took a tumble during shipping (which would have knocked the hands and date out of alignment), but the auto-alignment feature of the hands has corrected this. I don't believe it's able to adjust the date alignment without manual intervention, though.

I got the Oceanus T200 myself on a leather strap about a month ago and I absolutely love it. Personally I believe I'd actually prefer it to the 5000 (much cleaner look). Great looking watch. Very Japanese design, makes me think of an old school Grand Seiko or King Seiko. I don't believe the rumor that they use the same factory as Grand Seiko to make parts like the case though, because if you examine it under a loop, its not as well finished as my Seiko Marinemaster, but they are still easily some of the best finished watches in the price category and overall very satisfying imo. Also personally, I kind of get a kick out of the fact that its a Casio. For one thing, can anyone deny that Casios (Oceanus line included) are great value for money? For another thing, here in the states I don't know anyone else who owns one.

It's easy to dismiss quartz watches but dig deep and there's more to these than meets the eye. They are hand assembled on the premium product line at Yamagata and that includes aspects of the movement. This one is not really my style but after much research on high end Casios I decided on a G-shock MTG b3000 gshock which uses a beefed up version of this movement and adds a countdown timer. It's only when you get one in hand that you begin to appreciate what goes into producing them.

Hi Jody Beautiful looking watch but perhaps a little too complicated for me. I have a Citizen CB3010-57E that I bought while travelling in Japan 6 years ago (to replace a 30 yr old Citizen). This is a subtle, uncomplicated timepiece and it hasn't missed a beat in the time I've had it. It has no problem connecting to the atomic time signal here in rural Aberdeenshire ! It's always on my wrist, leaving the other watches I have very under utilised. In fact I've even thought about buying the blue version as well - that's how good it is ! Enjoying your reviews as ever loon.

Sapphire crystals with AR, solar power, 24-hour flyback chronographs, day & date complications, perpetual calendar, 24-hour clock, GMT/2nd time zone, an alarm & a phone locator. That would ruin the whole experience. Hopefully it's coated with a scratch resistant material (think Sinn). As to the look & functionality, I have a similar Casio Edifice ( EQB501XD-1A) for 1/3 the price, except that it is a huge, heavy chunk of metal. My Casio fills that "space age" niche in my watch box. If you are going to go quartz, you might as well go full fat, multi function, solar atomic with 4 independent motors and all the bells and whistles attached; like only a top Casio module can. Much better than a steel Swiss watch with a Ronda imo. Probably the watch guy's ultimate quartz. You can adjust and align the second hand perfectly to the markers on these watches, too.

The finning looks absolutely stunning. If you got a $1000 seiko you would have hollow end links and maybe even a pressed clasp. And STILL the 4r movement. Did you know that Invicta has a beautiful watch called the ocean Predator with a high beat seiko. I forgot the model number. It’s a retro grade Invicta

Finally, someone with an Oceanus review. Big ups to you sir. I have been trying to educate some of friends to not sleep on Casio.

I think Wired would be a good option for your next JDM video. Their new chronographs look great.

I just picked up the Oceanus T3000. It is a bit blingy. The finish is very good and like 5000 in the review it weighs nearly nothing compared to my Aquis. The 3000 has 3 adjusts on the clasp, but I wish there was a half link. I dig it so far, 3 days in.

This is a beautiful watch. And a very interesting one. These high tech watches have so many things to fiddle around, they are enjoyable. Simple watches which have just time functions might get boring after a time.

Awesome review Jody! I’ve always wondered about these Oceanus and if they are worth the price. As always, you can always count on Casio to deliver! An absolutely feature packed watch for sure even if it’s a bit more than I’d personally spend and n a watch like this.

Quite different from your average $1000 Swiss auto, but special in its own way for sure.

I quite like this watch and would definitely enjoy wearing it Jody. As usual a good full review but I noticed we didn't get a view of the back and you didn't mention how waterproof it is! Tut tut.☹😁👍

I bought a few years ago…not a chrono, just a world timer. Anyway, a beautiful watch with the only negative, IMHO, being the integrated bracelet. Mine only has a polished bezel, the rest is all brushed. A great watch, I think.

amazing review! I have the OCW-T200 and it is my grail watch. It literally does everything on it's own and it's always the right date and the EXACT time, always, down to the second. The second hand hits every marker, every time, all the time. I love it! (how many watches can do that?) cleaner design than the 5000 plus it's only $500.

I have the T200 as well and I agree with your comments. It's Game Over for trying to top this watch. Puts the other quartz and mechanicals in my collection to shame. I may be done buying watches with Oceanus on my wrist.

I recently decided to give up on mechanical watches as, unfortunately, the cost and time to service them has gotten to great. I was recently quoted $575 and 5 weeks to do a regular service and regulate basic ETA 2895-2 movement. The watch only cost $700 when new. Quartz movements for me from now on and the next analog watch is likely to be a Casio Oceanus.

I have a feeling this one will grow on you, and that it might turn into a classic because of its unified vision/design. (The bracelet is lovely.) Nothing hodgepodge about this one. $1,000 is out of my budget for now, however. Thanks!

Hey i know this comment was from a year ago, but you should look into some of the edifice models! Some of their offerings have great finishing and sapphire crystal for around $100!

Here I am, happily wearing my $85 Casio G-SHOCK GA-700-4ADR.......and then you show us this beauty!! Wow. Who says quartz second hands can't hit the markers! That's perfect. Ah well, at least the stop watch is much easier to use on mine!! This watch here, though expensive for Casio is well worth the money in my opinion. Great review as always Jody!!

Ive heard so much about this Casio Oceanus im glad ive watched this review yes very nice indeed... quality finish is excellent but lets face it a lot of money for a casio.... we all love casio for there cheaper budget belters....So reminds of some high end Edifice chronos though... For me NO id rather stick to a decent High end edifice if this is what your thing is...Great review as usual Jody !!!
