One of our favourite street cars at fullBOOST, Louis’ XR6 Falcon has long been a regular attendee in the Melbourne street car scene. Earlier this year the Ford peeled a new personal best of an 8.71. Built by Tunnel Vision, the single cam Ford 6 is boosted by a Garrett GTX47R turbocharger making over 1200hp. The full weight Falcon was driven to and from the track.

Ford V8's are amazing ...but the real Falcon engine will always be the inline six ..About 3.5 million Falcons were built and I guess at least 70% if not more were the sixes ..So glad that Ford Australia in 2016 chose the very last Falcon to be a N/A XR6 to bookend the Facon lineage as the very first ones were the 144ci..inline 6 called the Thrift.. My old AU has one of these sweet SOHC's beating beautifully away day after day ..My FG XR6 has the DOHC of course ..both lovely sweet donks ..

Live rear axle under the back. Tweaked a bit by Tickford. Something that can't be said about the XR6s from the BA range through to the FGX.

@@mitchjames9350 FPV is based of each of the range starting from BA through to FG. FGX relinquished its ties to FPV as XRs using the FGX platforms were based of the F6 and GT design. FPV is the successor of the once defunct Tickford until shortly after FPV's demise.

Fullboost sohc has always been a winner. Ever since mighty car mods put a dohc in a Toyota that ran a 9, every muppet who has half an idea is like Barra this Barra that, Barra swap it ect.

I heard that Tunnel Vision prefer the SOHC simply because of the added strength in the block, where the DOHC blocks tend to flex too easily, even when semi grout filled.

The 4.0 SOHC has been in falcons since 1990 to 2002. Does anyone know which are the best ones? I know the later AU series 3 have VCT 172kw.

@@jacobhaussmann90EA was 3.9l cfi (120kw) & mpi (139kw) & the 4.0l (148kw) came out in the EBSeries 2. The EB2/ED XR6 had 161kw from memory. EF/EL 164kw. AU VCT 172kw. Cheers

Mr schwifty , Google , Ford inline six cylinder engines , read Wikipedia page and all will be revealed . They are totally different engines .The American engines use gear drive for the cam for a start . Read it , it's very interesting .

They are pretty much identical to the twin cam barra excluding the head of course, and from the front half of #1 cyl forwards - which is why you dont see sohc to twin cam conversions. Blocks and sumps are the same but may have some slight casting differences but you'd only notice if you had 2 next to each other. Rods, crank, sump, pistons etc and a lot of the ancillaries are can be swapped from barra to this sohc and vise versa. This was the last variant of the SOHC 6, from the "AU" falcon (not au as in australia) though, cant remember off the top of my head if its as easy swapping the internals between the barra and earlier 4l sohc 6's.

@@fullboost depends were your at bloke,theres plenty of barras in many cities that put out over 1200 hp. Theres a fg xr6 in my small country town that is a daily driver and quarter mile car on weekends that is pushing 1200 kilowatts which is a fuck lot more than 1200 hp, around 1600 hp if my math is correct!

Yes this SOHC is damn fast for a 20 year old car!!! Also check out 'StreetMachineTV' 'CARNAGE Turbo Taxi' series.. They buy a decent condition 2nd hand high kilometre ex FG Taxi and fit second hand Barra donk cos original had rod knock then they fit a Turbo + Injected LPG system with possible twin injector system coming soon? This is a very Cool Car there is no Doubt However I'm a Littel Confused by the Titel of the Clip Since the Car is a Ford Xr6 How the hell is it a Barra Killa Sure I understand the Engine in this Falcon is a Different kind of inline Australian Ford built 6 cylinder engine with a big turbo but if it was to win a Drag against another Ford Xr6 with a Barra engine Its still a Ford inline six cylinder Xr6 that has won the Race you Guys Really make no sense at times ...Must be because you are Both LS holden lovers...

Sohc intech and barra are different motors. There are so many of both over here that there is lots of competition between the two. Also one is sohc, the other is dohc. Big difference.

Sam Lockman pick these engines up for a dime in newzealand or Australia , got one do just breathing and chip tune good for 300 kilowatts no engine mods.

Clint youre fucking dreaming if a normal intech will make 300kw on chip tune and "breathing mods" (By which i assume you mean port polish and flow) Even a fully head worked intech with a turbo running 10-12psi will only hit about 270kw (reliably, of course you can push more if you want to melt stock pistons every week)

No one goes for over 800 on SOHCs my guy, the barra is what started the turbo 6 craze in Australia (specifically drags, drifters have always had JZs, 7Ms and RBs...) the only people who build SOHC 4.0s arent looking for top speed possible, theyre looking for the top speed that the SOHC can make, of course newer technology will win but thats not the point, theres still people pushing the limits of old 350 sbc's for the fun of it even though a newer overhead cam engine could make more power.. Total power isnt the reason people chose engines, if youre dumping 40k into the engine of a car you want it to be an engine that you find cool...

Racing at a track wont kill the car scene , as you put it . Brainless , fucking imbeciles street racing and doing burnouts on public roads is what causes trouble for every law abiding , modified car owner . The idiots from South Eastern Skids were back in the news yesterday doing burnouts on the street and donuts and as usual the ignorant reporters called them Drag Racers . These fuck wits have as much to do with drag racing as someone playing tennis . If you want to see how fast your car is , do it legally at a track , the public roads are not race tracks .

Chris M. Your wrong buddy. That car should have got booted after running quicker than 10.99. It's on film running multiple passes without any of the safety equipment that's needed. If it goes pear shaped, do you think the tracks insurance company/coroner isn't going to ask questions? I make my livelyhood from this industry.
