IMPORTANT KZfaq is bugging out with these latest videos, please watch them with headphones or desktop speakers for a pleasant listening experience. Cell phone speakers and laptop speakers are useless for some reason, but use headphones and everything's OK.
It would be very difficult indeed to learn the piano and avoid discovering the major triad, and since so much of music revolves around this simple grouping of three notes I figured I'd make a simple tutorial video explaining how to find every common major triad across the piano and across the key signatures, too. If there's enough interest I'll keep making videos like this, leave suggestions for future video ideas in the comments below! :D

Many people have stated that there is no sound, it's a KZfaq problem and seems to only effect cell phones (headphones fix the problem). Laptops are also having sound issues, but to a lessor degree (headphones will also fix this problem).

Geoffery Flint, it's a Legend 70's Compact. We use it a lot here in the studio for all kinds of stuff. I think the sound problem has to do with the way KZfaq compresses the sound and under their system our studio sound gets compressed off the spectrum for some speakers. Sounds fantastic here in the studio on our computer and also with our headphones. It's really interesting how cell phones don't work at all, laptops have garbled sound and desktops work perfect.

The problem with the audio is stereo phase inversion. The left and right tracks have the same audio, but the right track is phase inverted (meaning, if you look at the waveform, it's upside down). When you listen to this on a device which downmixes to mono, like on many phones, it sums the two tracks and, because they perfectly cancel out, you're left with silence. Back in the 90s, when I first happened upon stereo phase inversion, I thought it sounded very cool on headphones and used it intentionally as an effect! I was very disappointed when I tried to play my recording back on speakers, and the subwoofer (which was in mono) was completely silent. Since then, I've always treated it as a problem to avoid. Hope this helps!

I think it's wonderful to see you put your class in teaching piano into actual practice. The best way to learn is to extend and practice what you learn in your college classes. I am greatly impressed with your excellent teaching.

Very nice! I like the concept of this series. I studied this in the jazz program at USC Thornton School of music. We had one week to prepare and then perform the major triads in all inversions in the wheel of fifths order. The next week it was minor triads, then sevenths, major sevenths, diminished, and on and on. It was a very fast pace for me to learn back then, but it IS the foundation of jazz. Once you know all that you can read charts, and you can become fluent in reading with practice.

Nice video, hope to see more where this came from! As a beginner, I'd find it very helpful to learn some simple improvisation techniques with basic chords on both hands. It makes learning much more fun, as practicing scales and chords by themselves gets a bit boring after a while.

I love the idea of teaching us piano, but somebody who doesn't know basic chords will have no idea what "go up a major third" and "go up a minor third" means. I took piano lessons as a kid and know chords but I have no idea what major third and minor third means. I use "whole, whole, half, whole" First finger on C, then whole note, whole note, half note, whole note, then play 1,3,and 5 fingers. I hope you do more of these.

Love it. Clear and simple. As it needs to be. Is it a good idea to draw the notes (while you play them) in the circle so it’s more clear how the circle works? And maybe show next to the circle where they are on a score? Just an idea don’t know if you like it or not. One of the things I think that is interesting to teach is how to differ in the strength you play within one chord. So like in your last piece you play a chord where only one note is played a bit louder then the rest. That’s always tricky. Thank you for sharing and playing!

I'd also like to know the fingering ( not just for chords but for scales as well ) . I noticed you use finger 4 instead of 5 for C major , for example . When you check online resources there really isn't a good one explaining this and when self-teaching it's kind of important to get this right from the start . Another thing which you hardly find online is how inversions work and how and when to apply them

There's many different ways to play a major chord, and in some circumstances you won't always use the same fingering as I did, but I've noticed that proper fingering is something that is difficult to acquire for many beginners. I want to do a video about it eventually!

I’m familiar with the Major and most of the minor chords, but get confused by what makes a diminished, augmented, sus, sus7, etc. Sometimes I see music where the bass parts are written with just the chord names, ie, C, Am, but I struggle to understand Cm7, Asus, And so on! 🙀

Just curious -- is there a logic with your fingering choices? Initially, I thought you were doing 1-2-4 for all white-key chords and 1-3-5 for triads with black keys, but this wasn't always the case. Seems much more natural to use 1-3-5 with only three tones but maybe this is this just something you learned so that you'd be ready for 5ths, 7ths and inversions? Thx
