14-YEAR-OLD Brooklynn Sittner has big dreams. She’s a CrossFit fanatic, who began the sport aged seven. She has now been training for half her life and hopes to one day compete professionally at the games. Last year Brooklynn became the national champion for Olympic weightlifting in her age group, an achievement that took hours of dedication, and stepping outside of normal teenage existence. She fits in homeschooling in the morning and spends the rest of her day at the gym. “I train six days a week, I get to the gym about noon, I leave anywhere from seven to eight,” she said. Brooklynn trains with her father Cory, who is also her coach. Despite the pressure of their relentless workout schedule, he isn’t concerned about creating a family rift. He said it had “positively impacted our father-daughter relationship, it allows us to be together every day and challenge each other.”

@Serena Chairs well then what are you suggesting, to start lift at 40 so that we dont end up with wear and tear? When we are teenagers and we are full of hormones is the best time to lift! Im 44 and yeah i have joint problems but this are probably because i grew up in a communist country where we had no good info about how to lift properly and we did a lot of old school mistakes.

I really don't mean to be negative, she's amazing but... I sincerely hope she doesn't overexert and injure herself. 7-8 hours/day, 6 days/week?!? Not to mention she's trained intensely throughout puberty; seems a lot of strain to put on a developing body. And she started so young. Idk, I'm definitely not an expert but by what I've heard/read it seems dangerous. Just really hope she doesn't have issues down the road, and knows when it's the right time to tone it back or quit.

Yeah, I agree. Although, it seems she is getting a well-balanced diet. It's not like she is exercising all day and eating one piece of bread and a bag of chips. Exercises and lifts are easy with poor form and kipping. The concept of functional fitness is great, but a lot of cross fitters don’t know how to properly do many of these exercises.

I wish her the best but then again i hope her dad won't be her only friend her whole life, she's so young she still has a lot of time to make some but having friends you've known for years when you enter adulthood is a huge benefit, your parents can't "coach" you through that part
