I haven't got onto any yet but I hear "Renaissance Wax" is the way to go for maintaining the original surface on almost anything. It's even got the endorsement of the Queen and is used for protecting priceless paintings from contamination and wont make things glossy either. And only a small amount is needed to go a long way. A guy I met at work is a mad keen knife maker and has a forge at home and makes ultra nice pieces for sale. When he heard of my wanting to preserve certain tools for posterity he told me about Renaissance wax. It can be used on metal, painted surfaces basically anything and is used by all the major museums. It's not cheap but it's not that expensive either seeing as a little goes a long way.

Bought one of these a little while back. Fired her up and took to the large nature strip in front of my house which was a bit stony. Was firing rocks across the street into the neighbors fence. Had to stop before I did real damage. Amazing little machine though.

I agree with you, Peter. The Victa 18 retains so much of its original finish it's best served by a sympathetic restoration. It can always be fully restored in the future but it's only ever original once.

Just a good clean up sounds good.

I love the whitewall tyres. Somehow it reminds me of my Austin, must be the vibe of it. I also think you should just clean it and leave it. It will probably look really good with just a clean anyway. Very nostalgic.

I have four never used VICTA handle signage yes four. Came out of a garage that had been locked up since 1973. The guy that owned the gear worked for VICTA.

I would just clean it up.

Peter, the fuel tap looks like a Ewarts fuel tap. The reason it is probably loose is that the small cork seal has dried out. These taps are fitted as standard on the British Seagull outboard engines and spare parts are still available. If you put fuel in the tank then the cork may recover, but you should consider a new seal.

Nice Victa mate....Lucky you got the paperwork and receipts for the old boy.I have your model but it didnt have an airfilter which you cant get anywhere so I will take the housing to Repco who have heaps of filters and see if i can get something similar or make one myself with a can/wire and foam..like your work!

Been watching your vids for yrs Peter. Really good mate. Top work. Now regards to the Victa Special yes I would leave her alone it looks great original.

You have the right approach to this one Peter, give it a good clean and keep it as original as possible. In the paper work at the start showing the standard and special they both have an air tube that is the same length as your one but the pod on the top looks to be smaller in the pictures. A friend of mine a an agricultural engineer (Lawn mower mechanic) and has a hoard of parts. I'll ask if he has the spanner or the plastic name plate. If he has them I'll contact you and arrange to send then over to you. (I'm in the UK) I know he likes old Victas so he may have the bits.
