Spec it out with some options packages like the one we have carries, and the price for this entry-level Mercedes sedan inches close to the $50,000. That's a tough pill to swallow, but are the options worth the extra money? Let's find out!

So what's wrong with that? The same engine in the AMG version makes 380 hp. The most powerful 2 litre 4 cylinder. This version is not meant for speed. Plus, the Honda may have 250hp but will probably be slower to 60.

@@SDav21 Nope, besides, who cares "if this is the slow version"... so is the Accord. (technically the Type-R engine) 180 hp is very bad in 2020 for a 2L Premium Sedan. If @#StandYourGround is correct, 228 is much much better. Still a bit less, and still a bit heavier than just an Accord... However that brings it just over even just a base line Camry 202, or base line Accord at 192. I get it, horsepower isn't everything.... But the Accord has a Manual, and things like Active noise cancellation. (The website for Canada is still showing 188 hp for the A-Class, with the official 0-60 from Merc being 7.2)
@SDav21
@SDav21 4 жыл бұрын
@@Dia1Up The Accord and Camry are boats. These cars are not comparable in any way to the A Class. Someone looking at the A is not looking at an Accord or Camry. Also, hp means nothing. 7.1 is perfectly fine. Mercedes has not always been about hp. The current C180 has 156hp from its 1.6 turbo. The E200 has 185hp from its 2 litre turbo (same engine has 243hp in the E300). The A180d has 106hp. All perfectly adequate. You guys in the US and Canada never get these models. These are Mercedes best selling models. You guys just so happen to get higher engined derivatives as base models because cars and fuel are so cheap there. It's nothing new. In fact the E200 Kompressor from 2002 has about 150hp. The C180 from that time even less. They've always made engines with this hp because it isn't about hp at all. Based on your comment however, this car is clearly not made for the American Market. They should've then just offered you guys the A250 or A220d. Then there's still the A35 and A45. A220 isn't even the base model. It's the A180d with a 1.5 diesel and an A200 with a 1.3 petrol.

Because for efficiency. This isn't meant for hp and speed. The same engine makes 380hp in the AMG. Meaning this one is very unstressed and reliable. That also means it is better at higher altitudes where a naturally aspirated vehicle loses much more power.
@simoncquach
@simoncquach 4 жыл бұрын
@@SDav21 but I thought the point of the modern day turbo is to produce high hp from a small engine with good fuel economy. Yea so a 180 hp turbo 4 makes no sense. Plus I don't think Mercedes cares much about reliability when designing their vehicles.
@SDav21
@SDav21 4 жыл бұрын
@@simoncquach Lol you thought wrong. That's so not the point. Renault makes a 0.9 litre 3 cylinder engine with a turbo. It has 88hp. It was designed to REPLACE the naturally aspirated 1.2 or 1.4 litre engine. So it is smaller in size but produces the same hp as a small engine. You get better torque delivery especially at higher altitudes. The smaller engine is more efficient in the city. The whole point of the modern day turbo is NOT to produce high hp but to comply with European legislation where cars were being taxed on engine size and emissions. Smaller engines means less tax and less emissions. It has nothing to do with hp in such models. The turbo only really plays into hp for high performance models like the amg ones where they need the performance but large engines won't do because of taxes and emissions laws. Mercedes does build for reliability since their cars are used as taxis and emergency vehicles in Europe and in some countries in Africa. No one is stupid enough to build unreliable vehicles. They know it'll ruin the brand. No one can be made happy clearly. If this had a 2 litre from Toyota in it, everyone would throw their hands in the air about how shitty slow and lethargic and old fashioned it is. Because how dare a Mercedes be that way right? So they give more advanced engines which went under similarly advanced testing with their massive R&D budget. So please. Rethink what you think turbos are used for. It's not just one application and the goal isn't just more hp. A normal 2 litre with this hp would be very high revving but make very little torque making it less driveable and less efficient. Thus a turbo.

Last month I had the chance to drive this A220 4 MATIC as the loaner car.... I hated it. The noise came from the bottom every time I drove on the road with small tiny rocks, I can count how many rocks was hitting the car.... It is worse than my 2010 Passat. The power.... yes, it has more than a carrola... but the sounds and the power of that engine went cheap over 3500rpm..... terrible. The A250 hatch i drove for one day was much much better than that It is a cheap Mercedes but it is not a cheap car! So for that much of money I think you better choose a used C class, GLC. Or new GTI, Golf R. A220 lost the basic qualities which a Mercedes should have.

With 2.0 turbo you can do amazing speeds if its` tuned right.

Let me clear it up for you. From lowest to highest, it's A,B,C,E,S classes. They are the last letter in SUVs and EQ cars (GLE, EQC) or the first or sole letter in other cars (SLC, E) Now that we have the classes out of the way, other letters denote different versions of the class. Adding "GL" as a prefix means it is an SUV. Adding "CL" means it is a "coupe like" sedan. "EQ" prefix means electric. There is no prefix for electric SUVs. Exceptions to this rule on current production models are the G, SL, and GT cars, which have names too meaningful to change to the structured nomenclature. The numbers at the end are constantly changing and confusing. 2 numbers means AMG, and 3 is regular. The higher the number, the more power there is. A 43 engine is an AMG tuned regular V6 or I6, and is not hand made. The 45 is the insanely powerful 4 banger that is a V8 cut in half. The 63 is the current most powerful V8. Soon, there will be 55 and 73 models. An S at the end of the numbers means it's a higher performance variant. As for the 3 digit numbers, they make very little sense. Anything below 350 is a 4 cyl, anything above or at 500 is a v8.

I wish luxury cars went back to having more quality, durability, safety and performance than more mainstream cars. Now it's just technology that becomes obsolete in a year and cost a fortune to fix. You can't notice or use any performance advantage and the safety tech that is useful is spread to even the most entry level vehicles.

It's not slow it's adequate. It's clear that these cars are not meant for Americans because there's very little you guys know about these brands. They're not about hp and rear wheel drive. The current C180 has 156hp. The E200 has 185hp. The 180d diesel has 106hp. All perfectly adequate and the best selling models in other parts of the world. These are all models you do not get. But those models are Mercedes bread and butter everywhere else in the world. Americans are just used to faster because fuel is so damn cheap like water and cars too are inexpensive meaning you guys get to have the much higher powered versions as base models. The base model CLA is a 1.5 diesel and a 1.3 turbo petrol with 106hp and 160hp respectively. So, this cars is not slow. Americans just don't know anything other than their own little bubble they think they live in.

8.63" in 0-60, my 2002 Dodge Ram does that (Cummins) lol. And it is way heaver/older. Great review over all though for someone looking for a piece of luxury. That sound system is a joke though lol. Tells you a lot about the company if they can't even get that right.

@@JOHNJ0HN9111 Yes we own 2. One is a 2004 C220 Cdi with 300,000kms and drives like new and is cheap to maintain. Don't blame Mercedes for American's inability to properly look after and service a proper vehicle. Stick to your old fashioned outdated Corollas that's all you know how to fix. Leave the advanced to other parts of the world.

@@JOHNJ0HN9111 Like I said. It still looks and drives like brand new. They do a million miles too but they do it comfortably and with technology well ahead of their time. Back then Toyota didn't even know what automatic lights were or safety. It is still drives and goes better than brand new toyotas. Take your shit box Corolla to the junk yard. It's where all toyotas end up anyway. No one ever said their dream is to own a Toyota.
