20k mile reliability tests don't mean that much. The real test is when the car is out of warranty at 50k and 100k miles. That's where you see a car's real reliability.

I live in Spain and I have the version A220 hatchback with 190 hp and dual clutch. Right now the car have 25.000 miles and is almost three years old. Being on service two times and in a couple of months will be for the third time. In one of the services, I remember they call me for a service recall. From the service part, no complaints at all. One time I brought the car for software update on the HUD and the rest no issues at all. The drive assistant is so good. I love it. Talking about the dual clutch, I have no problems at this time but we'll see in the future. About the price, the car is not cheap (I think I paid 48.000 euros) but the difference with others similar cars was huge at the moment. It was like a spaceship in comparison. Now the differences are tight. Anyway, I enjoy driving the car and believe me, that is the most important thing for me. Great video Edmunds.

I also have one. It's crap. The gearbox is clunky and atrocious, especially regarding downshifts 4-3-2. The software is buggy beyond acceptance for a 50K car. The "spaceship" look faded away a couple months down the road. The front suspension, despite having no problem whatsoever, sounds like it has something loose. At higher speeds the wind noise is unacceptable and it gives off the impression the rear windows are open. Ergonomics are poor for someone over 185cm. Overall material quality is the definition of cheap. From the EZ scratch piano plastic centre consoles to the fake aluminium look plastic door handles. The whole interior is a plastic pit that gets scratched if you look at it. The service is all looks no quality and any semblance of care is absolutely not there. All in all, they're cars for muppets with a fat wallet that like to parade around showing off a symbol. If someone mechanically inclined got one, it will have a hard time getting the needed info to work on them. Most owners and groups are absolutely useless. Again, they only care about the symbols and are the utter definition of useless. Had a Golf before and even though those have their issues, it's tenfold easier to find information about them and how to solve them and they're tremendously easier to work on. Far better cars. First and last mercedes. Absolute disgust with the overall experience. Just thinking about having to deal with the dealer muppets windbags irks my skin. I wouldn't recommend one to my worst enemy. I can't even fathom living with this crap in a 160 or 180 engine variant. That however made realize how many fools are out there that lack any kind of critical thinking and just go with the gottalookgood herd.

It's interesting to hear that owning a new Mercedes and the dealership experience that comes with it is exactly the same as with owning a new Hyundai regarding resolving issues. Things go wonky, they don't know why and say things like "they all do that". The only difference is an oil change and alignment at Hyundai won't cost an eye-watering $600. I've always heard that getting a car serviced at European brand dealerships is a costly experience.

OK, so basically being a MB, it's trans was broken at 20k miles and the dealer said it's the trans, but didn't replace it. Right. That's going to make me buy one today over a Kia, VW, Toyota. Luxury has different meanings, and reliability being great is a luxury in itself.

I have a 2019 A220 and I will be selling it soon even though I haven’t even reached 25,000 miles yet. I just can’t stand the cost of the maintenance and I feel like if anything goes wrong, which could happen at any moment, it will be super expensive.
@mudemmeonick
@mudemmeonick Жыл бұрын
Same boat. I could live with the cost if the overall experience was good. But it isn't. The service is dreadful and clearly oriented to dazzle fools. The cars aren't good in any way whatsoever. Sloppily built. Materials are cheap and only made to look expensive. Software is buggy. And the overall thing is riddled with issues. It's like mercedes put them out there for the owners to do the beta testing. And things do go wrong. Just wait till you get the dreaded SRS failures and your dealer shafts you even though they should be supporting the fixes. Or the interior comfort module bricks itself. Or the front fender lines start rattling. Or the taillights stop working because they feel like. By the way, are you enjoying the wind noise in the cabin? Or all the gravel projected from the front wheels to the front doors since mercedes did the fender in a way that everything that gets picked up is thrown at the side of the car, not to mention zero insulation behind the lines so you hear every single hit inside the cabin. And how is your seat stiching? Holding up or are you one of the poor lucky guys that has a car where they are starting to rip apart? Maintenance could be a lot cheaper if most owners weren't dreadfully ignorant about their cars and shared knowledge. Sadly I've came to realize the typical mercedes owner can't even coun't the fingers on their hands. If it wasn't for the price paid, I'd get rid of it tomorrow.

After they changed it, driving in sports mode make weird noise in the engine… sold that thing the following week. Great video. Amazing the type of insane premiums folks will pay for a Mercedes, Audi, or BMW badge upfront. And I mean _JUST_ for that. 188hp., jerky transmission. Who cares. It's still a Mercedes. Nevermind that for $3K more you can get a Golf R with almost double the horsepower! Or, for $9K less money, the sedan version of the Mazda 3 Turbo. Which ironically is just as luxurious as the A220 and literally the same size nearly down to the inch. And, also makes significantly more horsepower and is smoother shifting than the Mercedes. Still, you don't get that big, obnoxious, Mercedes logo upfront that let's people know you're financially better than they are. . . Unless one of your neighbors is a car guy and easily sees you bought the cheapest Merc. because you're still faking it until you (maybe) make it, one day.

Modern cars are designed to make money for the showroom and the service department. Their throw-away engineering includes cheap plastic and tricky design features that are designed to crumble and hard to service so the consumer will pay insanely high for parts and service or just trade up to a new vehicle. The second owner may get a gem and a great deal if the first owner covered the service and repairs along with that new car depreciation.

You guys just didn’t know how to drive it! I just bought my lease out on a 2019 a220 the car was aggressive and could handle a beating but whiners and people like this made Mercedes have a update on the transmission now making it slow and boring thanks for complaining about a perfect car!

It may be artistic license on your part, but double, triple, quadruple clicking the shift paddle can’t be good. They’re designed to shift every few seconds at most - not three times a second.

I have a 2022 civic hatchback ex-l and a 2022 A 220. They are not the same at all. A220 is way peppier and handling is miles better. Infotainment is leaps ahead. Civic is a classy car but the two are not the same. Paid $31k for the civic and $37k for the A220 in the chip shortage era. The price difference is enough to justify the Benz between the two if you can afford the maintenance. That’s where driving a Honda brings value. Hands down

Merc offers this vehicle as an entry level offering in the mid $40's. Get a new Elantra N for over 10 grand less with more standard features. Merc is great at selling the sizzle (their name brand), but not the steak.

Yeah, keep that Korean trash to yourself. It's not even remotely close to even this cheap Merc. The Elantra is a disposable car, used to be good for 30k miles tops, then to the junk yard. Now maybe 80-100k at best.
