I own a Focus RS and I'm still pissed Toyota isn't selling this in the USA. The GR Yaris is like the Fiesta RS that we've always wanted, proper pocket rocket.

I have literally never in my 40 years of life seen someone sweat from their biceps.

Yaris was never a pathetic car. It is one of the most reliable "cheap" and economic car of today. Sure it is pathetic in sense "muh V8" but in city driving it is the car you want to have next to an EV.

My first car (still my only car) was a 2012 2 door Yaris. Honestly I love it, I put it through hell and back and it just doesn't give up.

Doug is the first human being able to sweat above his arms.

The roof is actually forged carbon with a wrap. It looks great when naked and polished. The GR was also developed in the same factory as the LFA by Akio Toyoda and is most likely selling at a loss to Toyota. The thing is somehow more impressive than Doug enthusiastically gave credit.

This little rocket reminds me of a carlos saints version of a celica. You get a plate that tells you witch number your car is, and also old celica for rally was gt4 and this is a gr4 yaris. Absolutely love it, im getting one one day for sure, this is the carlos saints or gt4 celica of my generation.

In Europe we have a completely different entertainment system with knobs and a backup camera. Waiting time is around 24 months at the moment.

Whoever drove that all the way from Mexico to San Diego just so that Doug could review it, you are awesome!

Amazing. It's a sports hatchback. Got a perfect size for easy driving, can fit a 3rd person if needed, got 4wd for rough terrain, very cool but not too showy.. I think this is the most perfect car ever according to my preferences.

"The yaris was the smallest of the toyota range" IQ and Aygo crying in the corner...

America misses out on a lot of "pocket rockets", almost all of them in fact: no GR Yaris, no VW Polo GTI, no Fiesta ST, no Suzuki Swift Sport - you miss out on a lot of fun!

There is another amazing feature/ quark. If u pull the handbrake the rear will lock up indented from the front. So tight turns or 180 are possible with the handbrake

Important note: The GR Yaris ONLY shares the headlights, taillights and side mirrors with the regular version. Everything else is bespoke for the GR which is pretty awesome.

A lot of the issues Doug picks up on are because he’s reviewing a convenience package yaris. The one to have is the circuit pack but perhaps not made available in Mexico…. The circuit pack version that we have in Europe does have a backup camera, it has forged alloy BBS rims and it even has an infotainment with a dial for volume! Although it doesn’t have a HuD or parking sensors hahaha

The problem: the GR Yaris is built on a one-of-a-kind platform. As such, Toyota is probably losing money on each car made. That's why Toyota will replace it with the GR Corolla, which is built on the current Corolla hatchback platform. As such, it makes it a lot easier to homologate the GR Corolla for the US market.

The US not having the Alpine A110 and the GR Yaris is a real shame. 2 of the best "true philosophy" sport cars that came out in the last years.

I have seen one recently in Austria and it is very beautiful and even more aggressive look then from what you can tell in the video. You can see right away it is a serious performance car in a very small package.

I live in Switzerland and I have a GR Yaris Cirquit Pack. In Europe the infotainment is different and the cirquit pack has a rear camera. It's a car that transmits driving pleasure, I love it. the gearbox is manual only and the only things it has in common with a yaris are the headlights, mirrors and antenna. sorry for my english XD

This isn't just the coolest hatchback America doesn't get, it's the coolest new hatchback out right now imo.

The most fun car i have ever driven. In Estonia the aftermarket prices were pretty much immidiately higher than dealership prices when it came out. I know people who tracked it for several months and sold it later with a profit.

2 doors are perfect for this car, it's meant mostly for two people and occasionally a child or dog that doesn't mind climbing in back at all. For 4 doors/adults, a bigger car would be better anyway. I imagine it is an amazing daily driver with that transmission, and a head unit upgrade.

Last month I had the ridiculous luck to find myself racing around on the Nurburgring on a tourist drive day and was introduced to these bad boys. I cannot overstate how insanely rapidly they were passing nearly everything there. Keeping pace with M2's, 911s, AMG GTRs, and that ilk. Absolutely sailing past the masses of e36 M3s and Minis. Three weeks later and I'm still shocked at how competent they are on track.

I own a red one here in Australia. it's a pocket rocket. Excellent 6 speed manual gearbox and grips the road like mud on a blanket.

Hey Doug, great video as always. Mexico got the worst version of the GR Yaris. Must have version is the Circuit Pack, featuring sticky Michelin Tyres, front air cooling intakes, low and hard suspension setting, and most important front and rear Torsen limited split diferential. Mexico got the confort (AKA: Convinience pack) version without any of the confort (parking sensors, rear camera, JBL speakers).

What I was unfortunate enough to learn first hand is that here in Japan there are 2 trim levels to the GR Yaris, the wicked powerful one like in this video, and one called the GR RS that basically amounts to an appearance package for the normal Yaris, with the same 1.5 liter 118 horsepower engine mated to a CVT, along with using the standard car's brakes. It does keep the GR's rear suspension, though, so it's got that going for it.

I think the real problem with on screen buttons to control things like volume or temperature, is the idea of tap, tap, tap, to increment it by one at a time on touch; Instead what they need to do is, at the sense that something has touched the button, to increment it, but make it a continuous. This continuous up or down while pressing the button should curtail the problem with tap, tap, taping the button to get the desired result....Code it for continuous increase or decrease the second the button is touched and that should help to fix the problem with using on screen buttons...and maybe set the increase or decrease speed based on how hard the button is pressed.

Doug; you missed out info limited slip differential front and rear, rear differential is disabled by hand break, Jank it turn its front wheel drive only, until unlock rear wheels back to 4x4. It’s amongst the fastest cars on track, B roads include. Aluminum panels lightweight plastics. Your welcome. 😎

They designed and built the car to comply with WRC as you say, then decided they didn't want to rally the car anyway.... But they carried on bringing the GR Yaris to market.... And they make a loss on each one sold!

The level of refinement, handling prowess, power & torque works so well as a total package! toyota’s collab with Tommi Makinen to make a race homologation chassis superb for public roads really shows in this car 😎👌👌

The day has finally come for Doug to review the GR Yaris

I'm a Toyota fan, and quite honestly I'm sad that we don't get this car in America, it's a travesty.

I live in europe and my brother currently owns the regular 4 door 1.5 liter version. Got to say, its a fun car to drive. I got to drive it one time. It handles well and quite fast actually. That infotainment system doesn’t look like the one we get in europe. I would say that the one we get is much more responsive than that one and looks better.

Backup cameras aren’t mandatory in Europe so you could have a 3 series with a HUD and no camera 😅

Even Jeremy Clarkson has said that this little pocket Rocket is his favorite car of the year.

A lot of cars outside of US have HUDs without rear cameras. Backup cameras were mandated for all vehicles within the United States a while back

That infotainment screen is the small one, there is a bigger one with faster response and with physical buttons for the volume.

When the Yaris does a much better job at giving your GR division cred than the supra lol
