While it is impressive, it is a small sample. Kelvin Kiptum is incredible, a testimony to hard work, training technique, physical form and it shows, no doubt. He has yet to go 'marathon' in The Marathon, but he IS certainly very VERY fast. I am looking forward to Paris! The course is not designed for speed, but only has about 28 turns, compared to the 44 or so here in Chicago. PS: I love that you made this comment as Forrest Gump! Great movie, loved it, especially the cross country running. (Of course!)

I think the pro running community in general is trying to let this sink in. Other than Eliud Kipchoge and maybe Jacob Kiplemo (if he enters the marathon)this man has no competition. That’s crazy! The lack of congratulations from the pro running community is showing right now. They’re probably in full panic mode trying to figure out how to respond. The pro running community isn’t ready for this level of competition.

You can see he was all in on this even his form changed in the 2nd half. Hopefully he can recover well between races because there is one thing about Kipchoge he has amazing form. This is good as it shows how prepared Kipchoge is for a race. Kiptum on the other hand has excellent form at the beginning but towards the end is quite compromised. Could this lead to an injury? It is exciting nonetheless and I’m excited for what is to come from Kiptum.

He trains with Kipchoge. I'm sure the 2 of them are pushing each other to break the 2 minute barrier in a real Marathon. The Breaking 2 event was an experiment to see if it was even humanly possible to do. Once they proved that it was, the race was on to do it in a real Marathon without the special conditions. Hopefully Kelvin and Eluid can attack the 2 minute barrier together at the Olympics.

Well lets not get ahead here, Chicago had 12+ pacers, and Kiptum was still well paced. The weather in Chicago was 10/10 for marathons so it was IDEAL for fast running and he might have some new super shoes. That said, it was still impressive as hell, with the corners, the pacing and the prep work. Superb race, but the weather and probably prototype shoes might be able to explain a lot of the 35-40 seconds.

Kiptum should go fpr 1/2 Mar WR early spring then Paris. Kipchoge said he wants a medal in Paris after Berlin. Given who he is that's telling... he trains with Kiptum around. It's testament to the Goat that he's still so good he's kept going long enough for the next hyper talent to grow and develop. If Kiptum stays healthy... is clean then with that slightly slanted stride and incredible power in the second half perhaps a sub 2 in Berlin 2025?

I can understand why you might think this, because Kipchoge seemed to take the marathon to the next level. But, when you think about it, the world record probably shouldn't be set by someone in their late thirties. This will start a revolution with amazing results. Factor in what is happening the last 6 to 10 years in fitness, training techniques, Shoe Tech! and compare this to the less typical Marathon age group. The average time to run just went up. If one runs with any of the watches, if one runs by threshold and age caculated pace, or just be feel everone Is now running 30 seconds faster. We are nothing but a herd animal. Some of us goats must run in the front, most in the middle and the old ones like me in the back. But what counts keeping us fed, clothed, and out of the jaws of microbes is the speed of the herd. The herd speed just rose 30 seconds. I had better keep up or I will be Worms méat.

He's not the New King of the Marathon because Eluid Kipchoge is still active and pushing to break the 2 minute barrier. Kelvin Kiptum trains with Kipchoge. In order for a Marathoner to be the new King of the distance, they would have to surpass Eluids 15 Marathon wins. Any runner can have a one off world record breaking run. But to be the King of the 26 mile Marathon distance would require longevity. His resume would have to contain the most Marathon Wins and the World Record. He's the Current World Record Holder. Eluid Kipchoge is still the King of the Marathon and the Greatest Of All Time.
