The #ToyotaPriusPrime has been around since 2017 and now that the all-new 5th generation #Prius is here, the redesigend #PriusPrime takes it to the next level. With 220 HP from its hybrid powertrain, this new #ToyotaPrius has almost 100 HP more than the previous generation and with its larger 13.6 kWh battery pack, can travel up to 44 miles on EV only range. It goes on sale next month at a base price of around $32,500.

It sure does (look better). I live in a neighborhood filled with Teslas, McLaren, Hondas, Mercedes, etc and this new Prius drove through and we had to see what it was! It looks really futuristic! But at $30k+ for a Prius, I think people will go for a 2yr old Tesla. Maybe sales companies would use this (deductions on taxes) but not a lot of storage room. But it looks like something from another planet! Really sharp design.

I just wish they hadn't compromised the backseat functionality. I happen to have taller friends and I myself am six-foot-one and I hate that there are so few options on the American Market without going to a darn SUV or CUV and have full-size adult sitting up in the backseat. I ended up getting a GTI because it was on Deep Discount being a year old still on a little dealership lot. Not exactly sure why it didn't sell because all the rest of the cars all over the east side of the US where I was shopping we're selling out from underneath me while I was trying to make the deal (Golfs aren't very popular in the northern midwest) but I snagged a fully loaded model for nearly eight grand off MSRP because they didn't want to pay taxes on the unsold stock at the end of the year 😁 wish I could have afforded going plug-in hybrid but again, the dealerships in my area don't handle them I would have had to drive at minimum 65 Mi to get to a dealership that could do repairs on a Kia or Toyota plug in hybrid and anything related to Battery Service on a General Motors vehicle I would have had to drive the opposite direction more than 50 miles. Hopefully the popularity of these help the infrastructure be more viable when I'm back in the market. Thanks for another great review

its also a better price for what you get and a great transition point for people hesitant to go full electric. But the EV market is changing so fast this could change in less than 2 years from now. Just a month or two ago Tesla announced support for any plug-in vehicles at select stations (currently not many, but growing quickly). Electric car charging is faster and more reliable than ever, however its still very dependent on location.

Got my 4th Gen Prius the same year it came out brand new! I still have the stock break pads with 170k miles. All I had to do was oil changes and air filters. And of course the tires. It's just too good of a car to own. I moved my apartment 3 times with this car. A twin mattress fits in it. We traveled along US west coast in it. It's got plenty of space to sleep, and the hybrid system is just ideal for having AC on during nights in Summer at Rest Areas. And no, I do not drive slow on the left lane haha.

@@markbajek2541 Sorry, mine is not a prime, it's the regular Prius Two model from 2016. I bought it for 24k as the cheapest base model at the time. So, no plugins or anything like that. Having no plugins makes it possible to run ac as long as you have gas. Your engine will turn on here and there to charge back up, but overall, you don't waste much gas on overnight AC runnning :)

It's quite clear Toyota management finally flushed the design department and brought in people who actually know what they're doing. Toyotas are designed in the same studio as Lexus. they are made ugly on purpose so Lexus division can rake in the big bucks. Every car Toyota makes could have looked like Lexus LC if they wanted to, but then nobody would pay six figures for the LC. It's called capitalism. They spruced up the Prius because it was catching more flak than other models for being EXTRA ugly so Toyota corrected course.

Solar Roof $600. About $640 after tax. 1,250 Km = 776.7 mi = 2.1 miles a day. Assuming $3.50/gallon for gas, 50 miles/gallon, charging 80% of the time (it won't do anything if you charge overnight UNTIL you actually drive it for the day) = 11.76 cents/day 5,442 days, or 14.9 years to hopefully recoup the cost of the panel.

I do see your point but solar isn't just about saving money imo. The end goal, just like the main goal of the prius, is to reduce emissions and have a smaller impact on the environment to reduce greenhouse gasses. Over time it equals to thousands of miles without using gas and that's also a significant reduction of power usage on the grid. With how much the prius retains its 5 year resale value, the solar investment for the roof is worth the extra money even knowing chances are you won't recoup it all back, just knowing that you are taking the next step further to help the environment. ❤✌️😁

Nice detailed review. Unfortunately, the heated seats are not available with the SE trim but a heated steering wheel is standard. The SofTex trimmed seats are also not available on the SE. All the vehicles I have seen tested are either XSE or XSE Premium although it is interesting to note that the SE is capable of 4 more combined MPG and 5 more miles of electric-only range. This is quite a significant difference for a car that boasts efficiency as its best attribute. I would think that the SE would be most popular. It is also interesting that the SE's 17 inch wheels result in that much greater efficiency.

@Karl with a K It's only unsafe because of the number of massive SUVs and trucks on the roads. With how little there is space left in the cities it's just a matter of time before cities will start banning ownership of large cars. Montreal is already looking into it. There's no reason why you need a massive utility vehicle in the city. Most people drive in them alone 99% of the time, and trucks in private ownership were only used to carry heavy cargo only a few days in a year. They did a study on this in Quebec. Give it a few more years and ownership of trucks will require a special license like commercial vehicles do. This outta make roads safe and free up a ton of road and parking space.

I have a 2010 Prius with 120k miles. With the previous generation, I was thinking that if I did a trade in, it definitely wouldn't be the Prius (I just found it so ugly compared to my current Prius). I had been thinking that if I upgraded my car, it would be going electric. But then I found out about this car: it meets so many things: looks modern, lets me drive electric for my city driving, and not worry about finding charging stations when driving long distances. Only main issue I'm finding as of now is that availability of any Prius Prime trim in the South East is extremely limited. Seems I'm going to be notified about allotments with dealers, and then making a deposit if there's a car I want. In reality with supply (at least my region), I don't think you can find any additional options from each trim. As of what I've seen in the last couple weeks of researching, the trims around me that might be available in advance are SE and XSE. There are some features of the XSE Premium I'd like...don't know that if I wait quite a few months there will be one or two popping up in my region.

The solar roof charges the battery so slowly, it’s practically useless. Other than that, I love everything about the vehicle. I only wish it came with AWD for some extra confidence on those icy road days, but I’ve survived many winters with a FWD, so not a dealbreaker.

At least make the solar roof powerful enough so the AC could be kept running forever.

@@anydaynow01 never thought about it, but yeah it's likely the 12v battery would last at least 5 years with the extra help from the large pack.

As EV tech advances, so do hybrids a year later. Got mine last week and it's the perfect daily (for me). Taller wheels for the highway miles, independent front and rear, but too much suspension travel and roll for mountain driving. Besides the motors, areas of modification look very straightforward, if you're into that. Since it shares a platform with the CH-R and Corolla, there will be a LOT of aftermarket options soon. I can let my truck make the driveway look pretty for now.

Great review. I would go for the option of solar panels which has been estimated to get 3-4 miles per day (not much, but that is 1000 FREE miles per year). This adds up if you do not drive much or do no drive every day. The solar panel will generate electricity when I'm sitting in traffic (at least I get something when stuck in a commute).

I was watching another video and they were testing it out on highway 70 mph and in the city going city speed limit, stop and go for about an hr an half the battery ended up died . They got 49.2 ev range before gas kicked in.

‘B Mode’ in previous Prius Prime models was for engine braking, did this change? Just don’t want people thinking it’s a more aggressive regen braking if it’s not

@benjaminsmith2287

Why so many launches? The goal of this car is to get mileage and EV mode is for around town. Of course if you want acceleration you go to hybrid mode. I like the car but I like the blue light strip on the dash more than the red and red accents on the Prime. Toyota needs to make the red optional and have it come with the normal blue IMO. It's just more soothing and the Prime isn't a sports car even if it has a bit more performance.

I hate that they wasted this lovely design in the Prius name. I wouldn’t get this if it was hybrid luxury named anything but Prius

Wish there were PHEV selections out there with at least a 50 mile electric range. It would be the have your cake and eat it also situation. Plug in vehicles will not work for a lot of people also because they live in an apartment or something.

Wait wait wait, did I hear that correctly? Did you say wheel width and design are exactly the same as the SE? So does that mean I could theoretically swap out these 19 in wheels for the standard 17 in and recoup some more fuel efficiency while still enjoying premium features?!

as a former prius owner and future prius owner, I can safely say we are not really concerned about speed or how fast it goes from 0 to 60. I would like to see better fuel economy as opposed to more speed, though. just my 2 cents.
