@@the_halfshell 600-700 miles and 36-ish gallons is good enough for most, but the heavy long haulers would appreciate the extra range of a ~50 gallon like with the competitors. Combined with an aux tank, the 1,500+ mile range allows them to avoid high priced states.
@AkioWasRight
@AkioWasRight Жыл бұрын
@@the_halfshell Even 50 gallons is practical to a weekend warrior. With 50 gallons the unladen range is 900 miles, say. If you tow, you're going to get more around 350-450 miles towing a large camper. More than enough for someone like you who only needs to go 200 miles. However, that extra range would give you more fueling options. Instead of fueling up at the campsite where diesel is $5.49/gallon, you can go an extra 50 miles back to the nearest large city where diesel is $4.69/gallon, saving you $40/tank. If you do this every weekend or even only a few times year, you'll save hundreds or even thousands each year in vacation fueling costs. It's well worth it to have the extra capacity.

It’s because of Mr. Truck. These two play off of each other very well. They are the best combo in TFL. When Andres with Roman he has to keep him on track as Roman has a tendency to be all over the place. Good video, always enjoy your comparisons. The rear gear ratios were mentioned… not sure what final OD is on both GM & Ford 10sp; but still a very significant difference in the 2 Rr Gear Ratios. The Ford was higher gear ratio, normally equates to less mpg. When doing a MPG test, helpful if you included the RPM at say 60 & 70mph… total combination Trans, Rr Diff & Tire size impact MPG a lot. The difference of .1 was insignificant… ambient temp, winds, etc can easily be .1-.3 difference.

@marcelo403polo2 Is it fully deleted? I did mine when she only had 300 miles on the odometer. So, that makes a HUGE difference as well, because all the intake pipes, and CAC are still looking like brand-new on the inside. If you delete your truck, you gotta make sure you deleted the PVC, EGR, DPF, Cats, replace the downpipe, driver's side exhaust manifold, both up pipes, use 3" mandrel bent pipes, no muffler. I used a great tune from MotorOps up in Canada, and then tweked the tune myself with HP Tuners. Also, using the trailer tow mode until you get to 50 mph every time will make a big difference as well. It will lock the converter and stop wasting fuel in slipping the converter. You'll build boost faster, and the truck will be a lot more responsive, so you aren't sticking your foot in it as much.

Hey TFL. Plenty of videos already of both the Ford and GM 10speeds apart. The short answer is no , they aren't the same. Both GM/ Ford scaled up the their co-deisgned half ton transmission. But they have different design philosophies. GM went for efficiency/quietness in the design of the hard parts. Allison basically had input on the valve body and pump design in the GM transmission. The Ford is a much heavier unit. It is built much stronger than GMs, but it's not as smooth or efficient.

That is highway miles. My 24 LTZ diesel not dually is 14-15 MPG average. It's 8-10 MPG city + stop light idling. It will do 18.5 MPG 75 MPH highway/interstate. 20 MPG if you're going under 60 MPH on a mostly flat highway long distance. Towing is a big variable, but basically towing light (3-4k) it's -2MPG and towing heavy (10k+) it's -10MPG. Computer meter is accurate within .5 MPG so I stopped manually calculating...seems like just a variance of when pump cuts off. Honestly not too impressed expecting better and wondering what gas trucks are getting...Tank fills up to 37 gallons when not even empty despite being supposedly 36...IMO seems like a 40 gallon tank to me or hopefully gauge isn't that off. Realistically 550-600 gallon range empty and probably half that towing max... that is 5-6 hours+ of driving when towing really heavy and many will want to stop got a break by 5 hours or wont be driving for than that in a day so it's fine...can get an aux or transfer fuel tank or just throw a few 5 gallon totes in the bed if you want more range...anyone who drives+tows that heavy long distance probably will already have a 100 gallon tank in the bed...especially a dually.

Of course the rear axel ratio makes a big difference in fuel economy (good or bad based upon how tall that gear is). You can't fight physics. The primary job of these new 10 speed transmissions is to get to 10th gear as efficiently as possible. Once there, the biggest difference in fuel economy will be determined by the rear axel ratio. That's why we always ask about rear axel gears.

The previous DMAX was subject to excessive soot that would clog the particulate filter to the point that regens, even forced regens wouldn't clean it and it would go into walk mode. Two to three weeks in the service dept to get it fixed. This would occur on long haul towing trips and was a big problem. This new Dmax version evidently has that mulligan cured.

All that eco mode does in the Ford changes the shift points and throttle input(like sport mode adds throttle angle). Axle ratio isnt as critical as it once was. A 3.55 in the Ford is the same rating a 4.10 in the Ram, a 4.10 has a huge mechanical advantage. That Gooseball 4"aft of axle is the WORST idea in the HD world. Nothing like removing weight from the steering axle. Especially when towing 20-25k lol. Rockstar ideas, lets add 4"inches to the bed length(so its 1" longer than the Ford) without actually engineering the truck properly(adjusting the wheelbase). That 10L1000 is the same internals as the Ford 10R140. Clutch material is different(because the fluid is different) the operating temps are completely different(cooling stratagies are polar opposite). In the end the planetary sets are the same, the rest is unique to each transmission. Its not a conspiracy, its smart business(collaboration). I was saying they were the same transmission right from the day I compared the ratios on paper. These things are that hard to spot. Its like the Ram HD hasnt changed much since 2011, all the trucks are on the exact same wheelbase, interior space, and overall dimensions. Same applies to the GMT800, 900, K2XX Trucks. All the same with marginal improvents(and very clear re-skins)

@@garysarratt1 I love the 10R140 and the transmission strategy varies greatly. I always use the engine brake. So from 2nd to 10th it's always locked(TC lock is required for engine braking). If you use Tow/Haul its also locked from 2nd to 10th, but it holds the gears longer(higher rpm before shifting) the ECO mode just add a softer throttle map(less "throttle plate" angle) as there is no throttle plate in a diesel, and upshifts sooner(lower rpm is less fuel injection events)

It could but this being a turbodiesel the effects of altitude would be noticeably reduced.

Well we moved to Colorado Springs area from north east AR wich went from 1000 to 5000 ft and even with our NA engines we see exactly zero difference. MPG is related to how much air the engine is taking in so if you just end up with the throttle open further up here but you are still taking in the same amount if you had it more closed at lower elevation. You'll see a change in "peak" power not really mpg.

I finally got Andre to come around on the notion that rear gears mean nothing now with 10 speed transmissions! Success!
@gungadinn
@gungadinn Жыл бұрын
In order to find the final drive ratio, you need to know the gear ratio of the transmission, the rear axle ratio and the tire rolling diameter. When you compare the Aisin 6 speed to the Ford or GM 10 speed, the highest gear ratio is almost identical. The only advantage IMO is if you are operating in a narrow torque band.

If the Ford 350 had the same curb weight and same options than the Ford would get better mileage!, cause you would be comparing equal weight. Common guys you use to be more honest and fairer. Eric Pa

Whose fault is it the Ford isn't the same weight? Nothing is equal in the automotive industry, but it's still an apples to apples comparison. They're just comparing red apples to green apples.

Lol what are you talking about. You compare the trucks as they sit. How much weight are we even talking lol, these trucks weigh over 7,000lbs, is 200lb difference going to kill the test? No lol crying Ford blue for every little thing

They talked about this extensively on multiple podcast. They can rarely compare apples to apples since they can't buy or get loaners for every truck spec. This is good enough coming from a Ford guy. I'm ok with the results. GM has done a great job. All these trucks are excellent. I'm happy to see the competition heating up, I want more capable trucks. The better GM and RAM get the better the next Ford will be, etc.

In the TFL recent drag racing the Ford used was the High Output diesel engine over the standard Ford diesel. For a more fair comparison let’s see how Chevy/Ford stack up when comparing apples to apples. You could also have Gale Banks tune the GM to 500 plus pony’s and run the races again. You guys need to drop the overly apparent Ford bias. It’s so evident and hinders the objectivity of your video content.

.1 difference in MPG on two different days on at different pumps and different courses isn’t really a measurable amount. Remember that Ford was coming from Detroit so it was a steady climb if they did it from Denver to Detroit it would be a different result. I’m an Owner Operator truck driver in Colorado and when ever I head east I always get better MPG than coming home, it’s not a huge difference but there is a difference.

Haha you can’t even compare. That Chevy meets 2023 emissions standards and has almost double the power and torque of that 6.0, AND duallies use more fuel than singles. I remember driving a 2004 or 2005 Duramax that consistently got 24mpg.
