With nearly 80,000 units sold in 2023, the latest #HyundaiKona grows in size and refinement for the second generation and while the #KonaNLine continues to be one of the sportier offerings in the segment, #Hyundai has seriously improved the space and technology for this new generation of #Kona. We'd like to eventually see a more off-road oriented model but for those of you who want a little more fun in your small SUV, this new model is definitely worth a look.

What's not to like about this car? Amazing tech, space, cargo, ground clearance, alot of features, crazy design (good or bad) and a decently reliable engine and transmission? Hyundai/Kia are really knocking it out of the park nowadays.

A lot more bloated, heavier, considerably slower and less fuel efficient, much pricier than previous Kona. That's what's not to like.

This looks sharp! I love my '19 Kona Limited in Lime Twist and named her Margo Rita. I loved her so much I sold Hyundai vehicles for a little while and can't recommend them enough! She's got 43k miles on her now and I've not had any repairs needed. Love the wheels on these new N Lines, too!

I drove the 1.6T. It puts a smile on your face. It has a very good power band and was a pleasure to daily drive. It's an interesting new engine 🤔 Too new to know if they'll last long. I would like to see one with 150k miles or more 😮

That engine is not new. The only thing that is new to this engine is CVVD. This simple tech that will not give you any issues unlike Nissan and their complicated compression engines. Of all the engines in Hyundai lineup, the 1.6t I-4 and any of the v-6 engine are ones to get for solid history in reliability despite some being DI only (they will last as long as you clean the injectors after so many miles).

2024 Hyundai Kona N Line is a lot faster than it's main rival, the 2024 Honda HRV. According to TheTopher, zero to 60 in the HRV is almost 13 seconds

Down in Australia, one region where the Hybrid is available: We have two trim levels Kona and Kona Premium. Kona is equivalent (roughly) to the US SEL; Kona Premium is equivalent (roughly) to the Limited, but notably the Sunroof is a $1500 factory option so you can have it with or without. Driveline is the 2.0 NA IVT or the 1.6 Hybrid DCT both in FWD. If you option the Hybrid you get the Multi-link rear suspension and the Column mounted shift selector like the N-Line. Notice I haven't listed the N-line as a trim level. That's because for us the N-line is a Factory Option Pack. You can apply the N-Line Pack to either the Kona or the Kona Premium (with or without Sunroof). N-line gives you the 1.6T 8spd Auto and Htrack AWD and all the trim options *but* this is also where it gets a little complicated. You can spec the N-line package on the Hybrid power train models and it only includes the body kit (full body colour) and interior trim features. New Santa Fe here is Hybrid Only (currently) in FWD or AWD with a 6 speed Auto. Tucson can be had in a Hybrid FWD only again with 6 speed Auto. These two are 'standard' Hybrid - no Plug-In option.

I recommended the 2023 Kona to my sister, she ended up with the Limited AWD Turbo and loves it. Her first-ever non-Japanese car. (I already have the original Genesis so I’ve been firmly in the Hyundai camp already). If I needed an SUV myself I’d love a Kona myself. I only wish the Kona Hybrid was available stateside! (It is widely available in Europe.)

Keep the Kona N with this body language and make the powertrain more reliable and then we'll talk. Also consider making your EV 240hp/300lbft and you won't need an N.

I wish you could add things like the blind spot monitor, 360 camera etc with an option package. That way you can have your N line trim but still have limited features.

Solid choice ! with your Mazda CX-30 , Mazda builds a much better car. I’ve been driving a Mazda 3 GT AWD Turbo Hatch as well as the NA 2.5L before that and a Mazda will outlast these things in every way, and you get a real transmission with a Mazda.

With the N line Ultimate you can get ventilated seat and the 360 camera. Canadian version. I love the N interior however I disliked not having all limited features on the USA trims, Korean version will have both seats electric as well

Thanks for this review, you make this vehicle seem appealing. I certainly agree with one of your closing remarks! Hyundai needs to bring the hybrid variant back to the U.S. market. I may wait a bit, with this said I may consider a Tucson N-line (where hybrid is mandatory).

That Tucson N Line looks incredibly cool. However, there is a $7K price difference between that and Kona N Line. That is the reason why I drove the Kona N Line home last weekend. 😁

I just purchased the Kona N Line Htrac last week and so far, it does not have wireless carplay/android auto though I did see it in the menus on the car. When i tap on the Vehicle Projection, it still asks me to connect my phone to the car. So, soon maybe.

I would of put the turn signals as part of the long led strips, and leave off the spoiler but otherwise i like the look.

That would be cool. However I heard that Hyundai doesn't want the Kona to overlap Tucson that much since the Kona interior space is already encroaching into Tucson territory.

@goochigoochs3836 I sat inside both a couple weeks ago. The Kona was actually a little tight for me.At six foot where the Tucson was completely fine. Headroom is surprisingly small and in the Kona..

Canada do not have a Limited trim for the Kona hence the N-Line is fully loaded. As for the hybrid Kona not coming to the US, it's for the best considering Toyota upped their hybrid game. The n/a 1.6 engine is best suited for the Venue/Soul, and the 1.6t hybrid need to go into the Kona/Niro and other vehicles on that platform. If that powertrain cost too much for that platform, they can always hybridized the Nu 2.0 I-4 engine for lower cost.

Too small for me and way too much hard touch plastic, but at least it has real buttons and the rear window go all the way down. No mention on the radio maker but I doubt it will be premium since the passenger seat is a manual.

Without the N the 2.0T should definitely be offered in the N line trim with the normal 8 speed and awd.

I believe that rims 17 or 18 max 19 its just a problem making car slower and 19 tires are very expensive

Off the line it *sounds* like it could benefit from a slightly sportier final drive ratio for that 8 speed in this N line model to make up for that newfound weight, that alone would probably bring 0-60 down to 7 seconds flat. It’s already down on mpg over the previous gen anyway. I’m curious how the aftermarket support is for this 1.6t platform it would be neat to modify to around 275hp like the full-on N model but with all wheel drive unlike the full-on N model. Front wheel drive only on a crossover suv is kinda a deal breaker for me unfortunately. Fingers crossed the future Kona N has awd 🤞

You're thinking of the N. The N line in this and the Elantra have always used the 1.6 turbo with 200ish hp.

You can add a comma and get better than the stock system. Takes some tinkering but it's the best option and better than Tesla FSD Beta in some ways

@@stargate25645 search "comma ai" and you'll find a device that you can plug into many cars (Hyundai, KIA, Toyota, etc) and it allows you to run your own self-driving software. Like I said, it takes some tinkering but it gives the best experience and many cars are fully compatible. Comma is better than Tesla in that you can sort of help it if the turn it makes isn't quite right and it won't cancel just because you touched the wheel. It's a more harmonious implementation than what Tesla currently has and it works about as well as Tesla's FSD Beta.

My 2022 Kona Limited AWD, blows this new Kona away, I love the space in the 2024, but it has lost fun. the interior stack is a disaster!!! Open cubby holes, looks like a poorly designed office cubes! Bring back the DCT! And it still has too much road noise.

We're talking about 30-34k for 190hp. I can get a GR corrola, WRX or a 24' V6 Camry for a few grand more. I can get a RAV4 hybrid for 2k *LESS*. Are you kidding?

Tell me how a 2024 small SUV gets 24/29 mpg from a 4cylinder turbo at 190hp? WTF is with these cost effective engines? Oh the future. My 4th car a 2014 Mercedes E350 with old technology V6 4WD, at 16ft long and 302hp with 273lbs of torque and weighs 4000LBs!!!!!!...... gets 20/29 mpg. WTF are these companies selling. Why is this POS so underpowered and cheap? Yes, I can buy three 2014 E350s and have change left over for this crap vehicle. Get a PHEV and be done with it.....let alone owning a Bluetec, diesel or whatever BMW calls it. This cost savings KIA/Hyundai and BMW/Mercedes does it as well garbage is saving them money. Not you.
