A redesigned #LexusGX has been long overdue! Thankfully, #Lexus seems to have delivered with the more powerful, stylish, and capable 2024 #LexusGX550. The #GX550 builds on the capable #LandCruiserPrado platform and elevates the design and luxury features to befit the Lexus brand. Unlike the reborn #ToyotaLandCruiser, this models comes standard with a twin-turbo V6 engine under the hood, but expect a #GXHybrid to follow next year.

I like the GX, but from the lack of a luxurious interior, you can tell that the Land Cruiser was the main focus here.
@jakes5530

It’s hard to qualify vehicle as having a “luxurious” interior these days when a $30k hyundai sonata has leather, heated and cooled seats, dual 12” screens, self driving tech, ambient lighting, moonroof, good sound deadening, upgraded audio system, etc. I think the GX is fine inside. Luxury comes from build quality and materials, as well as sound deadening, and a powertrain that gives you ample power when you need it and fades into the background when you dont. The GX fits that description well I think.

After experiencing Genesis and even the new Infiniti QX80, Lexus really needs to step up their interior materials. Soft touch plastic just won’t cut it anymore when others are using stitched leather. They could’ve also used a faux stitching to cut cost, but they didn’t even do that.

That’s where my left arm/ elbow naturally rest, and in the GX it aggressively slopes downward. My assessment is based on what I observed at the Auto Show in California. For comparing this SUV, I recommend examining others. To attend, both my wife and I had to pay a $30 fee, and I was particularly eager to personally see the Lexus GX due to the hype surrounding it as a large off-road SUV. Before I outline the positives and negatives, I want to express my anticipation spanning decades for the GX to unveil a new design. However, I am disappointed with what I encountered. Pros: * The shape is commendable, featuring a perfect boxy design akin to competitors such as the Defender, Jeep Cherokee, and GMC. * While the central infotainment system is not groundbreaking, it maintains consistency with other Lexus models, which is acceptable. * Cons: * There are numerous drawbacks. The model I viewed exceeded $77k and lacked the ML sound system. * The absence of a panoramic sunroof, now a standard feature in modern vehicles, detracts from the luxurious experience. * The panoramic sunroof in the Luxury+ model is underwhelming and seems to mimic the idea from the Venza, which has been on the market for over six years. * The quality of leather and interior falls short compared to other SUVs in the same price range. Even the Toyota Highlander boasts superior interior quality. * The exterior feels excessively plastic, particularly upon contact with the bumper, hood, and other body panels. * Leather quality across all trims is subpar. * Fuel economy poses a significant issue in 2024, averaging only 17 mpg. * Many materials exude a cheap feel, failing to deliver a luxurious experience. * If one opts for all available options on the Lexus GX 550, it may be preferable to choose the LX 600, which offers a higher level of luxury and power. * For a better depiction of luxury, consider examining the Infiniti QX80: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/hLOqd5qfsbfQdI0.html I've been a longtime enthusiast of this SUV, but now, even surpassing $80k plus tax, it's hardly worth the investment. In 2024, there's a myriad of alternative options I've contemplated, including the Ford F150 Electric, Rivian, Cybertruck, GMC Denali AT4, Sequoia, and the Volkswagen Atlas Off-Road version, among others, boasting advanced technology and commendable qualities. Toyota and Lexus seem to be marketing very basic vehicles under the guise of reliability. Many individuals I conversed with at the auto show shared my sentiment that the GX 550 pales in comparison to the 460 in terms of quality, feeling cheaply constructed. Toyota and Lexus dealers hyping these vehicles on social media to attract buyers. This SUV no longer epitomizes luxury, not by a long shot. If you disregard reliability and juxtapose it against brands like BMW, Audi, and Land Rover, it's disheartening to witness its decline. Purchasing this vehicle entails enduring it for another six years solely to mitigate depreciation, while numerous other automakers are already introducing superior and more advanced technology. At present, I must explore alternative options, as this SUV is not worth $95k out of the door, if you're fortunate enough. Best wishes with your new purchase. Just bear in mind, many individuals are compensated for endorsing Toyota and Lexus brands, and I've encountered numerous instances of Toyota dealers leveraging social media to generate interest in these vehicles. In conclusion, this is merely my perspective. Enjoy your new purchase

This model was desperately in need of a refresh, especially the interior. I'm on the fence however as the outgoing exterior was unique for the segment. This model now looks like a Defender wanna be however is still easily distinguishable as a Toyota product and is eerily similar to the new Land Cruiser (no surprises there, of course). The price is the deal breaker for me. Too many amenities are lacking, even on the highest trim level and the slam when the rear glass closes is shocking. Competition is stiff and provides more in this segment and Lexus should at least have offered optional soft close doors, rear ventilated seats, and metal speaker covers. This is really just a classy tow truck for your boat, RC, or trailer. The abysmal mileage figures will only decline further with a heavy payload so it better have a huge gas tank. All that said, GX devotees will love it as the older models pale in comparison so they'll probably see decent sales in the US (unless gas prices skyrocket). The LX600 would be the Lexus choice for this segment given, at the end of the day, you're spending six figures for a fully optioned GX.

No Bueno with that engine, so sorry the GX460 is a better vehicle. It's a heavy large vehicle and gas mileage should not be an issue. The V8 should still be an option for buyers. Screw the CAFE ratings, it's a huge vehicle... make more corollas to lower the CAFE ratings. LOL

Here's my opinion, if you want an upscale off-roader, this is a fabulous choice, I like the Land Rover Defender too but I hear they are unreliable (ik the GX might have issues rn but knowing Lexus in the next 1-2 years most of the problems should be fully sorted), however if you are exclusively driving on-road and don't intend to off-road, there are other better options (some of which are cheaper than the GX too)

Why is it so hard to get a reliable, comfortable (soft riding) and spacious luxury SUV these days? The German are all after sporty firm rides and Lexus can’t tame the truck chassis… the roads here are all massive potholes and luxury means I don’t want to feel them.

I'm searching for that too, on the EV side. Shocking how little choices we have. What I found so far: A) BMW iX: Super ugly but insanely comfortable seats. Tons of soft padding and and just coddles you. Haven't driven it but I've read multiple reports on how quiet and comfortable the ride is. B) Mercedes EQS SUV: Just watched an Out of Spec motoring video where they race a Tesla Model X, Rivian R1S and EQS SUV from Colorado to Vegas. You can clearly hear the interior noise levels. EQS was dead quiet inside, Model X slightly noisier, and R1S MUCH noisier. C) F-150 Lightning: I'm not a truck fan in general, but I'm seeing endless reports on how the truck's indy suspension results in an old style cadillac floating ride. It's also super quiet as well. This is at the top of my list with EQS SUV a close 2nd.

That rear bumper is got to be the plainest I've ever seen.... it's quite ugly as well as the tow hitch cover. Lexus definitely has to improve a few things here, overall it's quite nice. So many players in this segment, don't I think it's going to sell more than 30,000 a year? We shall see

I have the 2024 GX 550 Luxury+, and we have an older (2014) Lexus GX 460 and we recently borrowed a 2023 GX from the dealer while doing some repairs on it. The 550 is nice, but the Mark Levinson "premium" sound system is simply garbage. I do not know why Lexus decided to completely DOWNGRADE the audio system. This one thing makes my entire purchase seem a little regretful.
