Well this was great. I have about a 1000 sq ft garden and definitely overwhelmed and trying to figure out what to use. I was going to use a soaker hose but that would be really costly.

flag emitters CAN be easily cleaned. Just rotate them as you pull. There is a notch in the black plastic part so when you rotate to the correct position you can pull it out and flush it. Then reinstall by pushing it in while rotating until it sets in then rotate a bit away from the notch. Done! All cleaned. And if you put it at the end of the 1/4 tube rather that at the larger tube (1/2" or 3/4" typ). they are less likely to break.

Thanks for being helpful. I have done this many times over the yrs without much success. I have also had the emitter break from being brittle when I messed with it. Great intel though.

Thank you! I'm from SLO! Fun to see the name here. I transplanted to Florida in 2020. I'm looking up drip systems that are best with high calcium well water. Can you help recommend for that?

What type of emitter would you recommend for hanging baskets on a zone with other shrubs and trees.

Hunter makes a .5 GPH (1/2 gallon per hour) button emitter. Another option that I just used last week for a bunch of container plants is a 1/4" ball valve. You can use a std. 1/4" coupler to go from 1/2" tubing to 1/4" tubing and then at the other end of the 1/4" tubing that is in the container, you install the ball valve which you can adjust the flow and turn it off if desired.

I have 1/2 inch brown tubing with pre installed emitters running in my garden but some plants need a little more water than others. Can I punch into it with additional emitters? Or add bubblers using 1/4 tubing? You said techline should not be punched into with 1/4 inch tubing. Can you elaborate?
@SprinklerPros
@SprinklerPros 2 ай бұрын
Alena, Nice idea but that tubing isn't designed to be punched into. Consider a 1/2" barbed tee (made for the Techline) and add another run of Techline down the other side of the plants. Another way is to tee off the Techline to 1/2" black tubing and punch holes in it to your heart's content. 😉

@@SprinklerPros thank you! So where can I find this barbed tee that’s made specifically for tech line? And how is it different from the barbed tees that go into 1/2 blank line supply tubing, which I normally use to add 1/4 delivery branches (I think of these as the “last mile” as they will deliver 1-4gal directly to the base of the plant) Side note: I probably need some help with my industry terminology vocabulary ;)

Your lingo's pretty on track. I purchase pretty much all my materials at professional landscape/irrigation suppliers like Ewing or SiteOne. They stock the Techline barbed fittings. The difference is the size. The 1/4" barbed couplers you are asking about are tiny compared to the Techline fittings. As mentioned in the video, consider avoiding using the 1/4" tubing to the plants and putting emitters next to the base of plants and trees. In most cases you can put the emitters directly into the 1/2" black tubing and let the roots come to the water. I hope this answered your questions thus far.

What emitter type do you suggest for a garden of 50 containers? 15 gallon, 10 gallon and 5 gallon containers are used. Thank you 😊
@SprinklerPros
@SprinklerPros Жыл бұрын
Lynn, there are so many factors to consider including weather, how much water you can tolerate leaking out of the containers, whether you are willing to use adjustable emitters or if you want to keep it super simple, etc. The easiest are the 1 GPH button emitters.

Why 30 minute minimum for tech line? If I run .a .9g/m tech line, 100’ there and 100’ back, so it hits each area twice, in 15 min connected to a rain bird retro (converted pop up sprinkler), it should deliver .45 gallons. Correct? Or what would be bad about this?

Yep. Same idea. My example is obviously with just one run for ease of example. Thanks for bringing that up with everyone.

Hi sir..can you please suggest best drip emitter for citrus that doesn't block water by strukking mud into it..
@SprinklerPros
@SprinklerPros Жыл бұрын
Sandeep, There are no emitters that can be guaranteed to NOT get debris in them, but the adjustable emitters shown at 1:31 can be flushed out if they get debris in them. The best way to help the emitters to stay clean is to be sure there is a filter on the system as seen at 2:18.

can you run multiple systems from one central line
@SprinklerPros

If you mean more than one 1/2" drip tubing lateral from one valve? Yes but keep in mind that a 3/4" valve with 3/4" schedule 40 piping can only safely handle up to 8 GPM and 1/2" drip tubing can only handle 4 GPM so, without knowing your design and length of laterals and how many emitters of unknown gallonage output, I wouldn't be able to tell you exactly how much you can put on a line, but you can use the above numbers to get an idea of where I'm going with this. I am planning to create a complete drip system installation guide so stay tuned and subscribe to get the announcement.

I was told by all the neighbors that bc we are all on wells, I need to buy flag emitters bc those are the easiest to clean. What the heck?
@SprinklerPros
@SprinklerPros 2 ай бұрын
ok. Sorry, what's bc? Have you watched my video about well water systems? If you have good filtration and keep it clean, you should have no need to clean out emitters. My 40 yrs experience with flag emitters is that they eventually get stuck to where you can't open them and the flag may break when you attempt to turn the flag. Your best defense is filtration before the valves and after the valves. I wish you well.
