We explore why the 3rd gen #ToyotaRAV4 is the most overlooked gem for off-roading and #overlanding in 2023
Are you in search of the perfect off-road companion that won't break the bank? Look no further than the 2007-2012 Toyota RAV4!
🚗 V6 Engine:
One of the key features that make the 2007-2012 Toyota RAV4 stand out is its robust V6 engine. While many compact SUVs in its class settle for smaller powerplants, the RAV4's V6 delivers an impressive blend of power and efficiency. With more horses under the hood, you'll find navigating challenging off-road terrain a breeze. The V6 engine ensures that the RAV4 doesn't just handle the road; it conquers the trails with ease.
🌐 All Wheel Drive with Locking Differential:
Off-roading demands superior traction, and the RAV4 doesn't disappoint. Equipped with All Wheel Drive (AWD) and a locking differential, this SUV provides optimal power distribution to all four wheels, ensuring maximum grip in challenging conditions. The locking differential is a game-changer, allowing the RAV4 to tackle rough terrains with confidence, making it a formidable off-road contender.
💰 Affordability:
Affordability is a crucial factor, especially when it comes to off-roading vehicles. The 2007-2012 Toyota RAV4 strikes the perfect balance between capability and cost. Its affordability doesn't compromise its off-road prowess, making it an ideal choice for budget-conscious adventurers who refuse to sacrifice performance.
🚙 Space:
Don't let the compact SUV tag fool you - the RAV4 boasts a surprisingly spacious interior. With ample cargo space and a roomy cabin, you can comfortably pack all your gear for an off-road expedition. Whether you're hauling camping equipment or navigating rocky trails, the RAV4 offers the space you need without compromising its nimble and agile off-road capabilities.
🌿 Miles per Gallon:
Off-roading adventures often take us to remote locations, and fuel efficiency becomes a crucial consideration. The RAV4 shines in this aspect, delivering respectable miles per gallon. You can explore off-the-beaten-path destinations without constantly worrying about fuel stops, allowing you to focus on the thrill of the journey.
With its powerful V6 engine, AWD with a locking differential, affordability, spacious interior, and impressive fuel efficiency, it's time to reconsider this model as your ultimate off-road companion. Join us as we uncover the reasons why the RAV4 deserves a spot in your off-road adventures!

Thanks for the excellent video .... I bought the 2006 (the first year in Gen 3 - 2006-2012) to convert to a campervan ... cause I love extra space to go backroading. Removed all seats, built a platform bed, added a Thule (for my 60 second cabin popup to use as a livingroom screen) & added the new 360 Bouge cigs glued 100w solar panel on top, cigs technology is not glass & even works in shade!) ... have 2 power banks and just new ecoflow first ever solar-battery powered, portable ac/heater ... I invented my own plastic sink w/grey water ... and of course, a cassette toilet. Going Full-time North America travel next month ... solo at 68. Until I want to stand up ... and trade in for a high top. Cant wait to goooooo!! ❤

I love my 2008 V6 Base AWD. I bought it used in 2010 from a dealer for $17K with 24,000 miles on the odometer and it's the best car purchase I've ever made. I have over 192,000 miles on it now and it is our road trip vehicle. Best fuel economy I ever got was 27 mpg on our trip from NJ to Florida with 3 people and all of our luggage for the week. As for the side opening rear door, I love it mainly because I have a rooftop box that opens from the rear so with the rear door swung open to the side and out of the way I can step up to the rear of the car and have very easy access to the box. In fact we plan to take it on our 2-week long trip 4 different states with a rooftop box and 4 bikes.

Hey, I wanted to thank you: your vid was one of the best vids I saw to give me the confidence to take the plunge on a 2008 RAV4 Limited AWD V6. Plus, I managed to get one with the rare THIRD ROW that stows away so I can have the row or all that storage space when it stows away! Can't thank you enough! I'm on the adventure! Can't wait to get it dialed in for its first trip!

Back in 2015, I tracked down a lightly-driven, single-owner (lease return) 2012 RAV4 Limited V6 with 23K miles. The torque provided by the 3.5 liters V6 engine and the Goldilocks (just right) size of this vehicle makes for an ideal road-tripping and camping rig for me. I've put on 100K (both on-road and off-road) since my purchase, and I've had zero issues with the engine, transmission, or electrical system - it's truly a rock-solid SUV. I'm fairly certain that I'll surpass the 280K mileage limit that I was able to reach with my former 1995 Acura Legend.

Picked up a 2007 Rav4 V6 this year for $1K because it had several issues that prevented it from passing inspection, $800 later doing it all myself it was road worthy and best purchase I've made, it is quick, reliable, smooth and if you are easy on it that big 3.5L V6 AWD can get 26-27 mpg on the highway!

As A Virginia resident I will confirm that the Toyota Rav4 has been the most popular vehicle in Virginia since the 2000's, mainly because Virginia is the furthest point north in the south that actually gets a snow or 2 in the winter and freaks out over the chance of snow, so everyone wants a crossover AWD car instead of a sedan.

I have a 2011 V6 3 liter 4wd Limited with a tow package. I love this car so much! I bought it with 200k miles and the engine was pristine. I am at 278+k miles now. I live in Michigan and drove it to California, then Washington state, back to California, and then back to Michigan loaded down with luggage and (on return trip) with a table strapped to the roof. In all that driving, I did not have one problem. I am considering upgrading to a Sequoia to be able to haul a trailer, but I love this car.

I have the last year for the V6 mine is a 2012 Limited bought it just before the pandemic really kicked in. It had 72,000 miles on it. Being that i live in the snow belt first thing I did was have the undercarriage treated with oil based product, but not the thick stuff. First two years coated everything, door jams ,sills and rails. Third year, only undercarriage. I now have 95,000 no problems except brakes, wheel bearing and gas tank seal, which was expensive because they had to drop the tank being there's no access cover under the rear seats. Also, I'm adamant about preventive maintenance had spark plugs changed, shocks, struts, coolant drained (didn't flush), drained tranny fluid and replaced the filter. I will never part with it, made in Japan another plus. Considering it cost $30,000 new and I paid half that price, it's a no brainer. Gas milage is great 28 highway and 14 city. Did add a Weathertech hood shield had a couple close calls with stones hitting windshield. Bought a SUV tent for it and one day, I'll be getting a NuCamp 320 S

I recently got an AWD 2007 limited with the v6, with the intention of over landing/ exploring mountains with. It’s A LOT cheaper than a 4 runner, In both upfront cost and fuel, and you got much more technology with less rust for the money. The V6 is a lot of engine for this light car- so fun to accelerate and I’ve managed to get ~22-23 MPG when driving gingerly. I just ticked over 160,000km or 100,000miles. Have lots of maintenance planned and I’m itching to put a 2, maybe 3 inch lift on it. The rav4 is a pretty awesome vehicle, roof racks, locking diff, tons of power, Toyota reliability, fender flares give decent looks, and I even have the upgraded JBL sound system that bumps!

I had a 2006 RAV4 Sport it had the oil burning 2.4 engine. Eventually I gave it to my son. It now has over 220K miles and he takes it EVERYWHERE! He loves it! It has been burning oil for at least half those miles and still going strong. I now have a 2012 Limited with 89K like new miles. It has the 2.5 engine and has way more power than it needs. I put very off road type tires on it, the Cooper Discoverer AT3. They are load on the highway, but I love them. You can't kill those old RAVs.

@CoolGuyClub
@CoolGuyClub 18 күн бұрын
No need for a spare. We run tire plugs and glue tread. Side note there are no “v4” cars. They are inline 4’s.

Bought an 07 Rav4 last year after my '12 Accent was stolen and wrecked. Can't say I'm too mad though as the Rav is hands down the best car I own. I just replaced my shocks and I gotta replace my ignition coils which I'm not stoked about. But this car is worth every swear word

I just did the coils and plugs on our previous v6 rav and honestly it was only a 2 hour job with me going very slowly. The nuts on the back of the engine are a pain but you can totally get them

Speaking of MPG: I have a Base 2010 RAV4 with the V6 with the Tow Package. Last March, I towed about 2000 lbs over 1000 miles with it and got 17 mpg, having to fill up every about 4 hours. I moved from MN to TN. I’ve also filled it to the brim with drums and she still wants to get up and go. I’ve slept in the back of the car at 6’4”. When it snowed here in eastern Tennessee, I was the only person who could make it up the hills, even when they were icier than all hell. I don’t think I can get rid of this car. 😂

Omg why didn’t I know this🤦‍♀️I never knew the sport model didn’t have the tire on the back! I have a 2011 V6 AWD Limited Pyrite Mica. There is a black Rav4 on my college campus and I’ve never been able to discern what model it is because the front looks like a gen 3, but the back looks more like a gen 4. At last, it must be a gen 3 sport model. The world finally makes sense again. Thank you.

@@j3plSee, I think that's why I was confused as to what the Rav4 model was that parks near me on campus. I looked at a used sport model (with the tire) before I ended up purchasing my limited. I always just assumed all Rav4 models had the tire on the back until the Gen 4, but this video sure proved me wrong😂. I like the tire on the back too. Not only is the tire easily accessible, but I also like that its unique from other vehicles in the category.

Does eating besides the struts need to get adjusted or replaced like control, arms, motor mounts, lowering the engine or anything?

Yes. Things like arm bushings and motor mounts will eventually need replacing on any car 15 years old but they aren’t critical and can be done any time
