Which is why I don’t understand how the productivity youtubers who plan everything all the time do stuff. They litteraly spend HOURS planning stuff they could have started or even finished by the time they are done planning.

We’re a one man / woman theater troupe in the play of our lives. One of the key insights I got after reading infinite game. I think there is a season for everything, and doing everything you want is a recipe to get none of it done. What are the 5 key roles you need to play in this season to build the 3 core identities you want to have by the end of this decade? Every other role gets benched. This will require some introspection but I think you have the intelligence and courage to pull it off.

Wow this video came at just the right time! Having recently transitioned from working at a law firm to working for myself, I (Em) only just realized that the way I talk to and treat myself (ie never satisfied, bad at taking leave, etc.) would have been a totally unacceptable way to treat someone else if I were at my previous job. It would definitely have - as you excellently put it - gotten me sent to HR lol! Really love this idea of firing yourself as manager, which I will now promptly to do myself as well :)

Wow, I just loved this so much! Approaching the management of your own roles and the different sides of yourself exactly how you would approach the management of other people at work... Sounds so simple when you say it, like it's the next logical thing to say, but why have I never ever ever thought of it that way? Lately I've been adding to my reading list a bunch of management books, wondering why am I so interested in this subject since I don't seem to be heading in that direction at work. Well, now I know why I'm reading them. Thanks Elizabeth!

It's interesting to hear you talking like this just a day after I read about "subpersonalities," which is kind of what you're talking about here. I appreciate this approach, 'cause I have a lot of tendencies toward procrastination, yet another part of me wants to get this stuff done _yesterday_ and thinking of it this way might be a good way to negotiate between these two extremes. This is why it can be truly useful to watch these kinds of videos. It's not that you will necessarily find the great secret to success in life, but it allows you to stretch your mind to consider another way of thinking. Thank you for sharing yours!

Love your content, it's very unique and honest. I think you are over ambitious with having so many parallel tracks, it's hard for any manager to run. I maybe wrong here, only you can question yourself and really know the answer. I feel that it is OK to take it slow, as long as you are growing.

This is brilliant. Thank you so much for your videos, for sharing all these things and for sharing a lot of tips and tricks/wisdom. I can relate so much and to so many things you tell on this channel. It is comforting to know that others struggle with the same things hahaha but it is a lot better when you find someone who could find a way and hack those struggles, use them instead of dreading them. So they don’t become a struggle anymore. My mind also wonders (ADHD thing 😅). I read and searched a lot about many topics you speak on your youtube channel, and I finally feel I’m getting answers that make sense, that I can actually implement. Somehow I feel relieved. I feel you understand me hahaha. So thank you so much!

I also have ADHD and I’ve found that the single most useful technique for getting things done is to count to 3 and then just do the thing. This interrupts my natural tendency to get lost in thought and before I know it I’ve gained momentum and the task is already halfway done.

This is honestly amazing. I would have never thought to frame this issue this way and it makes complete sense!!! It's brilliant... and as a job I have been a manager and I treat everyone so much better than I ever treat myself - I never thought of it until now. Even as an "employee" to myself, I treat my manager-self worse, and am a terrible employee in that job than I would ever be for a "real" job. As you said, for some people this is basic knowledge, but I am like you - I never take time off, Im constantly frustrated with myself, I am always trying to do everything rather than being at one job/role at a time - figuratively. Thank you, so much. I can now see small ways to be better by treating myself better - from both sides.

This is such a brilliant idea! I often feel as though I am twelve or more people in one due to the many number of things I want to get done in life. And I'm a terrible manager! I've gotten a bit better over the years, but what a wonderful idea to write down all the roles / needs / feelings and try to consciously toggle between them. I will definitely try this. ☺️ Sounds a bit like IFS therapy!

This talk truly helped me, I never think about myself like that, I'm going to be a medical student👩‍⚕️ this year, but I'm not satisfied with my life. I need a more adventurous existence, to explore different fields like painting, architecture, cooking, dancing, Tai chi, astronomy, piano or harp ( however I can't afford either😅), knitting, travelling and so much more... So, I never find what I want to be, or where to categorise myself as a person. What I am more artistic or scientific kind of a person? But this talk made me deeply realise 'I am all of these. Things I don't know are -: 1. Where to start (what to learn first)? 2. How to manage all these different personalities of myself? 🌻Seems like have to learn a lot of lessons and a new perspective to see me as an individual with diverse interests. 💐Thank you for your intellectual words.

I had something similar but not as sophisticated, where I would think of my self in two ways; the responsible planner or the creative doer. I did that cause I could never connect these two roles I needed to play into one mindset ever. One side of me wants to constantly plan and organize, the other part wants to forget time or responsibilities and lose herself in any activity she feels like partaking in. I think I will definitely try to apply your approach to how I manage my life because I think there are more than just two roles I play, it's just some of them align with the "responsible planner" more while some with "creative doer" more. Who knows, maybe some are somewhere in between and I never even noticed? Anyways, that was a loooong comment :P Thank you for sharing this

Wow this makes so much sense to me now. I would struggle to understand why on one hand it would be great to be a morning person on a set sleep schedule but on the other hand, some of my best work is in the dead of night. There are so many of these kinds contradictions and this video just made everything click! Also seeing yourself as a manager is brilliant bc I am guilty of all those same "bad boss" traits. And recently to try to get myself going on some creative projects I have begun to ask myself "What would you do if you were your own Creative Director? (Or like your own talent agent)" and this takes that idea to another level. I love your videos. The one on how to live a chaotically organized life also resonated deeply with me. Thank you for sharing your wisdom with us fellow neurodivergents

Not because of what others think, but because I kept on disappointing myself with the result that I get from myself. I hope you’ll be ok with yourself, and don’t push yourself too hard to all things, and be all things. It will be too much, too soon. I sooo needed to watch this (even though I initially was doing so to avoid doing my piles of work). But Yes! Can we talk about this more often?! It took going through surgery over winter break for me to realize how mean my manager was to all the different parts of myself, and how much expectations she had on all of them. I didn't have the language for it then, but I now know that I made a subconscious decision to fire her, but she's been sooo adamant about getting her job back over the past 2 months, and has succeed in some sneaky ways.. But I needed to watch your video to recommit to firing her :')

As a manager, I haven't found that learning to be a manager helped me be more kind to myself...necessarily. I love the idea of indexing personas, I've done similar with indexing my hobbies. A great start is advice by Agent Cooper from Twin Peaks: "Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good hot black coffee"

May be the problem is that you are good at so many different things and you want to do them all perfectly and then learn new things also and do that also perfectly. The more important thing that you are very genuine and empathetic. You never stop going to the core and so it's a constant struggle everytime. May be less of multitasking and not holding on to everything can help loosen up a bit. As Naval Ravikant said that may be choose your most important desire for which getting overwhelmed is ok and leave rest all. You cannot be overwhelmed about everything.
