The most success I've had with adults and youth when teaching butterfly is Skate drill, but that's more about timing and refining your whole stroke, not just individual arm/leg technique components. Maybe for an "Advanced Whiteboard Wednesday" segment?

The flow drill is very beneficial even for more experienced and faster swimmers. A common technique that many swimmers can refine by doing that drill is pressing their chest, something that helps me improve my efficiency and not wasting energy.

Hi Goutham! Your hands should enter the water in front of your shoulders, with your fingers pointed down. Make sure you don't pull with your hands turned out - that's bad for your shoulders! Hope this helps :)

our coach cuts it up even more. 1/2 25 slow, then 1/2 fast or vice versa. or mix it up with 1/2 free then 1/2 fly or 1/2 breast, 1/2 fly. Psychologically, for me as a disabled swimmer and peers who have trouble with fly, it seems like anybody can do anything for at least 12 yards.

1) I choke with the snorkel ... Each time I get actually more afraid of water into snorkel, that seems so much, that it does not go out the valve and I usually have no air to push it out or actually don't know if snorkel is above surface to make sense blowing out. I see people doing a flip turn with snorkel and "simply" blow out water when they come back up. I suck at that. Literally Undulation on my back is quite bad. It works under water, but on backstroke water level, ooofff, it only works if I do backstroke arms to get a bit momentum do one kick with one arm. Note: we always have a full pool. No matter if 5am or 3pm. Lucky if a lane alone. But always someone in next lane and life guards watching. I am pretty self conscious when trying to teach myself butterfly. I think I look like drowning.....

You know 222, 333 schemes should be great for people who need to build some endurance for butterfly. It can be hard for even pros to swim anything more than 400 meters (and this is a stretch because I've known some sprinters who would nearly drown swimming the 200 meters events.). But this set is great to practice your stroke but also catching a break. It's also less likely that you will mess up your technique as you won't be drained. Or a suggestion, something I do often, 50 or 25 m butterfly and then 50 or 25 m free. If you are already advanced you can try to swim 200m or even 400 m like that. I have never swam medley event but changing technique every 50 or 25 meters could be possibly beneficial for medley as well (although I can't really claim that from my personal experience for the above stated reasons.).

I do not understand why the 2 hand touch is required before the turn. Open turn is very slow. Flip turn is faster. So why aren't swimmers, in both breast stroke and the fly, allowed to do a no hand touch flip turn? Only reason I have been able to figure is 'that is the way we have always done it". Two handed touch for the finish, yes, that makes sense. This would lead to eliminating the hand touch before the turns in the IM as well....

idk, doing a flip turn after butterfly or breastroke seems like it would alter the rhythm of the strokes. To set up for a smoother turn, it may be necessary to some form of kick that may or may not be allowed for those races.
@robohippy
@robohippy 2 жыл бұрын
Only problem kick I could see would be that small dolphin kick that every one does to initiate the flip. Fly, no problem. Breast stroke, I don't know. With both the fly and the breast stroke, you would finish with a double arm pull to your sides, no problem with either stroke.
@teganroberts5824
@teganroberts5824 Жыл бұрын
It is against the rules. In a competition you would be disqualified for doing that. Also when the stroke is performed correctly and at speed, it would be much slower to do a flip turn.
@robohippy
@robohippy Жыл бұрын
@@teganroberts5824 I had to think about this for a bit. True, it currently 'against the rules' and you could get DQ for doing one, but rules can change. For sure, the finish would have to be 2 handed. If you think an open turn is faster than a flip turn, you really need to learn how to do a proper flip turn. No one will agree with that... I mean NO ONE!

Easiest way to do butterfly is focus on arms only without any breathing. Then add the front kick in. Breathing ruins everything

That wastes a lot more energy than when using your whole body.
@tomatomb8704
@tomatomb8704 2 жыл бұрын
@@ccbgaming6994 At first yes, but by using arms only and keeping the body relaxed. The kick comes more naturally. Not only is it the corrwct kick, but it'll be at the correct time also. Using the whole body is great, but if the whole body is positioned wrong or at least wrong timing, then it becomes a waste of energy in itself. I get where your coming from though.
@ccbgaming6994
@ccbgaming6994 2 жыл бұрын
Ok, I watched your butterfly video and I completely misunderstood what you said. I agree with everything you’re saying, especially focusing on the chest and arms. I thought you meant trying to use the arms on their own trying to get undulation. Take care
@tomatomb8704
@tomatomb8704 2 жыл бұрын
@@ccbgaming6994 My Butterfly video? Oh you mean the rant? Lol It's hard to explain but using arms only doesn't really create an undulation as such, but it does in a way that it makes the legs kick. The drill has lots of names, but the one I know it as is, "angels in the water" The best learn to swim video on KZfaq is probably "A Shaw Way to Fly". If you can get over the meditation/massage music in the background you'll learn alot from it. Unless your Butterfly's alright already of course. Mine certainly isn't.
