Thank you for this Anna! I couldnt download your free pear tutorial bc of my phone. Everything you talk about is so true. I had the perfectionist mindset and that initially stopped me bc of the seemingly unforgiving nature of watercolour. I started painting leaf shapes...practising precision and surface patterns. I used the mindset of allowing myself to make mistakes. I played with pigment strengths and what ugly ducklings were running loose I carried on with or added golds and coppers to embellish them as i was determined not to waste any of my expensive papers. I used a very simple idea of creating greetings cards i had had in the pipeline, to practice. I put illustrations in watercolour in a 5cm x 5cm square. Loved it. Then went bigger...and bigger. I love this medium so much now. Thank you x

Hi Anna, I truly loved this video. You accurately described the obstacles that have been preventing me from restarting my love for watercolor painting. Restarting because i took up the hobby when i was much younger. This pandemic is giving me more time and I thank you for inspiring me. Wishing you more success.

Yeah, I'd say my issue is the "not feeling inspired" one. Oh yeah, I had a painting that I didn't touch for 4 months because it hit "an ugly phase" and I couldn't mentally get passed it. I finally did, and was hit with inspiration and finished it in two days and I love how it turned out... but those 4 months, man... they were very deflating.

Do you have any advice on bypassing blocks to pick a piece back up? Say you're in the middle of a piece, but put it down to go to bed or to go to work or something and have a block in picking it back up again. How might one overcome them?
@NatureStudioTV

This is a very common block. The key here is to be disciplined and schedule tie to paint and make suer you keep going www.naturestudio.com/so-you-want-to-be-a-painter-schedule-it/

In darker moments I can sometimes think what is the value of an image, especially in modern times. A painting for painting sake and not as a concept or driver of some other form of art (tv show, game etc). It is kind of depressing because while I love painting I also don't find paintings interesting outside of the technicalities of it, I can't really appreciate them as nice visual stimuli for more than a minute or two at most. Sometimes that makes me think, what's the point? But then the only thing is that I enjoy the act of painting. The value of it outside the act is almost nothing for me, which is a weird feeling. Like a musician that can't enjoy listening to music. Anyone else think like this?
