Personally I needed to really understand chord theory before I became happy enough with what I’m doing to move forward. It’s different for everyone but I feel like as long as you are working on something that is functionally moving you towards your goal. Your only goal should be creating what’s in your heart, because once achieved everything else is at beck and call

I felt like I wasn't sure which stage I was at until you said that Stage 3 morphs into Stage 4 slowly and that's exactly where I'm at rn. I'm kinda getting out of the dip, don't have inspiration everytime, but still make stuff. I have felt like quitting multiple times, but producing is just too fun and it's just too satisfying to be proudly listening to your track or idea on loop. This has helped me through my dip :)

I'm in stage 4 and I gotta say, so much that never clicked for me before is clicking now. Watched likely thousands of tutorials throughout the years and they only kinda made sense to me now matter how well explained they were, for years I thought I just wasn't cut out to do this instead of the affirming thought that I just wasn't ready for those tutorials, revisiting them now is like a night/day difference

@@Bittamin forreal I think when we start out our expectations aren't that aligned with the reality and it takes stubbornly banging your head against a wall to get over that hurdle, once your expectations are properly calibrated though everything is much easier to comprehend/practice. I'm still not where I want to be but I don't cringe as much at my work anymore and my friends actually enjoy my beats for once looool

@@omega3battyacid878 yes the biggest holdup I had in my first 6 months was never being able to get a sound I liked, doesn’t help starting with garage band IOS but it sure beats spending thousands on a set up only to realize you’re not gonna make the next 90s house banger your first try

This is very much true to other crafts as well. Drawing, animating, software development and even sports. Any skill basically. Once you get the basics and get above the beginner level, progress curve slows down, and even mite plato. Naturally it "feels" like we got to our peak potential, and if its "not getting results" like money or outside acknowledgment one mite quit. But its not. You just need to keep going and pushing forward. If you managed to get to that step with the mentality of getting enjoyment out of the process more than the results, you have much better chances to "survive" this dip, as you are not motivate by the results but by the process. Very Important video! Hope this gets a lot of views :)

Brilliant... I have been music producing for about a year now, still in the exponential phase trying to balance my job between learning the fundamentals and creating new tunes. A few weeks ago I created a tune in a week that I thought was great, and built on a lot of new techniques that I had started learning. Riding high I was pretty happy, so I got straight into my latest tune and started off well, getting a little lost in Ableton's Vocoder (which I absolutely love). However, this tune is taking much longer and with each day I am getting disheartened (it doesn't help we are in lockdown again). This video this morning is great to watch, and I'll definitely use some of the tips that you've mentioned here, like focusing on an area getting good at it, and moving onto something else that I am not so skilled at. I'm not in the dip stage yet, but kind of am with this tune. Maybe I am striving for too much at too early a stage, not helped by the last song coming together very quickly and sounding pretty good.

good video. on your point to finish one song a week: this might work for genres like house and techno, but hard to achieve for more complex genres as dubstep or psytrance. I'm producing psytrance and it takes me 1-2 months to actually finish a track. I'm using FL wich actually has a project time tracker. If i look at the time before the final mixdown it's often in the 100-150 hour mark.

One more guy in the dip here, while still exponentially learning. I’ve achieved mild success in sync licensing so far on royalty free libraries but still I don’t have a defined brand from which you know what type of sound you can expect. My mixes are good, my compositions fit their purpose and my music is being used on videos and commercials, and real people is paying actual money to use it, which is prove that it is good enough for that. But man, Iife getting in the way at all times is overwhelming. Making music while having two other full time jobs seems often times too much. It’s been 3 months that I do nothing music wise, and I don’t know if I’ll ever overcome that. I think his is the end of the trip for me. Thanks for listening.

Hoping the best for everybody, and I think the best mindset to have for production is this is a HOBBY you enjoy!!! If money is going to come from it, rarely will it come from somebody who has 0 passion or love for music. If you don’t have love or passion for music, just start a record label and sign people instead 😅😅😂

getting into music... because I like VST and all the effects... imagine knowing EQ, and stuff before even knowing what a major chord is. wasted my last month learning music, worth the time. edit: if ur budget is tight, try to use cakewalk. can do everything, and I believe the UI is very very good and simple

Initially I bought Logic pro x because I have a mac. Later one I realise that Ableton was much more easier. I waited and when I started to study Industrial engineering I bought a Ableton Live Suite and many plug ins with a student discount (-50%). My first finished song was actually good even if not perfect BUT I finished it and was very creative and motivated. After that I never finished a song again since I started to study and always ended up in 32 bar loops but never finished. I think I will have to start now again somehow getting motivated otherwise Im afraid that this initial fire for producing music will disappear on the long term. :-I

Also, I don't know which direction I want to go in - I have tried a number of styles, but they are the unfinished bits of crap I mentioned. how many tutorials am i going to look at, feeling envy at how easily it all comes to the presenter?

I've got multiple projects going, but am having trouble getting a really professional sound or the sounds I would like. I'm working in Logic. Should I take a course? Maybe all the KZfaq tutorials aren't enough. If you are working in Logic and want to listen to each others' tracks, let me know.
