@@clevelandbrown2426 Barbour's pretty big in America, Belstaff not so much (I'm talking about those of us who appreciate heritage, long-lasting stuff). Also, I think Stridewise was hitting on brands that deserve to be known but perhaps are not that known yet, whereas Barbour is known enough here that it's not that important to mention them.

I have a Ginew Rider jacket that I really like. It basically looks like a type 3 jacket with a short stand collar. They make a version lined with pendleton wool too.

Hey Nick, the first real jacket I ever owned was styled on those vietnam military jackets but made for fashionable casual wear. Got it from a Australian retailer called "Rodger David", no longer in business. Pretty sure alot of men's clothing stores in Australia all the clothes are made in China. Anyways the jacket has held up well, I've had it about 9 years now. Are there any military style jackets that take your fancy?

Nice Video - I got the WAX CHORE COAT ANTIQUE GREEN by Cloth & Cut from the UK which is unfortunately very limited and I needed it in XXL and a winter Version, the 1944 N1 Deck Jacket waxed khaki by the Pike Brothers where my normal size L is perfect for layering, and I love them both a lot

Good video. I also have one of the Rogue Territory Supply jackets, and while I agree with your general assessment of the jacket, I should note that the button holes were a bit sloppier than I'd expect for a $300 made in the USA jacket. Not a deal breaker, but something to keep in mind.

I love my Flint and Tender waxed jacket. Fits great and has just enough stiffness. I got the lined one and its been a best buy for me, so far this year.

@@topranked5465 I got the wool lined one, it’s a heavier shell also. Works great in the mid 30’s. Be sure to know which one is which, the flannel lined is a thinner shell. I didn’t know I got the heavier one until a buddy tried to find the color I had, and it wasn’t available. It was because he was looking at the flannel lined and I had the wool lined.

Is there room for another honorable mention? Recently I came across a company called imogene + willis that makes a wool lined oilskin jacket called the enfield hunting jacket in dark umber. Not waxed of course and not cheap, but I really like the design. Looks like they have some nice denim too so beware of that rabbit hole. Thanks Nick!

Ship John just released V2 of the Wills jacket, which is now lined (with cotton I think), but that bumped up the price to $550. I managed to snag one, but won't be getting it 'til April of 2023 which is a really long wait, but I am in no shortage of cool jackets to wear so not really a bother on my end.

My "rouge territory" is just so much more dressy looking. My "flint and tender" is something I wear when ridding my moto, I feel like I'm wearing armor, its lined and warm.. Just ordered a Filson short cruiser. Im looking forward to getting it in.

I have Filson's tin cloth cruiser jacket (unlined) and Flint and Tinder Hudson Wax Jacket (flannel lined). The cruiser is more rugged and water resistant..I wear it as an outer layer over warmer clothes in winter...the Hudson is more stylish, bit less water resistant, and I wear that through fall into early winter. Love both of them. Was very intrigued by the Ship John, but I think its a major conceit to ask customers to pony up $500 and wait a year or so for the jacket. Not for me. I also have the Pack Animal waxed jacket and hate it as well....what were your reasons?

Agree with your assessment of the Wills jacket. The wait is ridiculous. Your comment was 10 months ago. As of now (in Oct 2022) the wait is 2.5 to 3 years long (May 2025) if I was to place an order today. I’m middle-aged (in my 50s). 3 years from now, I’m much closer to “senior citizen” status. By then I won’t get much use of the jacket because as I get older (and more fragile) at some point I won’t be able to carry 24 oz on my back. I don’t know what my life will be like in 3 months, let alone 3 years. I may be retired by then, downsizing, and moving to a warmer climate…who knows? Anyway, can you tell me your take on the Flint and Tinder Hudson? I was actually looking at it yesterday and thought that might be the one I get.

@@d05wtt As a senior (though still working and active), I know exactly what you are saying! My advice is keep on moving and doing stuff....we old people are like sharks...if we stop swimming (figuratively speaking) we will drown and go belly up...haha. As for the F&T Hudson jacket, I love it! I wear it mostly from Fall to early Winter when the temp drops down to 50ish or so. I've had to re wax it once...after getting caught in a couple of heavy rains, moisture was seeping through at the upper shoulder and arms. In misty or light rain conditions, the jacket holds up fine. Just remember, though,, that The Hudson is a stylish, rugged looking "casual" jacket. If you ever need something that can hold up in rough conditions, like camping or hunting or hiking in the woods, you would be better off with the Filson or Tom Beckbe waxed jacket. Of course, you would need to pay more for the protection and durability. Final point... F&T customer service is outstanding!

Also, even though I have a couple Filson products, I’m not crazy about buying their products because imo they’re way overpriced, especially for their products that are made outside of the U.S. As for the Tensaw jacket, no doubt it’s a great jacket. I just don’t find it as physically appealing as the others like the Hudson. Maybe it’ll grow on me the more I look at it but initial impressions, no. With regards to the Ship John Wills jacket, I’ll try my luck with acquiring one through their monthly “extras’ sales. If I won’t put a deposit down for a one year wait for a vehicle, I certainly won’t put down a deposit for a 3 year wait for a jacket. Besides the $200 NON refundable deposit is a huge turn-off.

I've had an Iron & Resin Rambler jacket for some time now and its AMAZING. Probably the most versatile of any of the others. You can wear it dressed up with slacks and boots all the way to nice sweats and Vans. With that being said I still want the pinnacle, so I have a Ship John Wills on preorder for 2023 lol, can't wait...

Depends on what fit your after. Filson slc is trim fit. Flint and tinder is boxy and roomy. Both are amazing jackets that will last forever.

You said don’t get the flint and tinder unlined jacket because it gets sticky but for the coolest jacket you chose a unlined jacket. Would that not be the same problem. Is there a difference between the two unlined jackets? Im a novice in this stuff so I just was curious.

Flint and Tinder's unlined jacket was more clammy and wet feeling. That said, Rogue Territory's isn't super comfortable/breathable because it's unlined.

A big advantage you overlooked is its sustainability! Because it’s typically not composed of synthetic materials it is environmentally better to make and dispose of.

@@javlop3337 just checked them out, really nice! Anyway shipping things from the US to Spain is a pain in the A... I have been waiting for my Outback for a few weeks now, plus had to pay like 50% over the price in import taxes. I asked since oilskin is supposed to be more waterproof than wax, it's an Australian technique, I actually have a really nice oilskin vest I've got while in Australia and works better than my British waxed cotton Chinese made R.M. Williams jacket.

Take a hard pass on the flint and tinder, it’s been a big disappointment. I was a medium according to the size chart but decided to go large jic but it’s awkward to wear. The sleeves are so narrow ya can’t wear anything under it and the back is so tight the sleeves ride halfway up my arms. First time I used the pocket the cheap canvas tore all the way up to the armpit.. not worth $300 imo

okay my turn. i have all of these so it’ll put my money where my mouth is. filson trench coat can survive a nuclear blast. , the tom beckbe tensaw is extremely comfortable and well made. the peregrine Waxed Bexley Jacked is the least expensive and the coolest, and most stylish of all my waxed jackets. absolutely love the peregrine.

To tear open a leather jacket either the material must be extremely supple and prone to breaking and you have to treat it like shit. IMO get leather from calfskin and above (Cow, Steer, Horse, Bison) the thickest and firmest possible

You’ re not supposed to wash a waxed jacket, spot clean only. Even if it’s cold you’re still sweating in a jacket. Seems like it would get disgusting over time. I like washing my jackets every so often. Also you have to re-wax the garment to maintain it. Seems like a lot of work.

Although canvas has more tensile strength than leather it is much less wear resistant and abrasion resistant than leather and therefore not as durable. Perhaps you had a leather jacket that was made up of a lower quality leather.

They soften up but they're not breathable, which is why I had to mention the unwaxed jacket!

I cant even take this guy or any guy seriously that wears a jacket like this in the city. It's pretty ridiculous. I would love to see these muppet's use any type of tool, let alone a chainsaw or axe.

SUGGESTION: Make a collar that works standing up or laying down. LENGTH should be between waist length and the more formal hip length. Hard to mention waxed jackets without Filson. Lined Tincloth Cruiser is my go to.
