"the secret to making good decisions is to make good decisions" is legit my experience with self help books - aka, if you have the thing then you don't need this book but if you don't have the thing this book will not help. Congrats to those in the middle of the venn diagram.

Am I crazy that I totally understand the difference between compromising and synergy? Compromising mean you didn’t get everything you wanted and you gave up some i.e. 1+1 = 1.5 Synergizing means you got everything you wanted and the sum of those parts gives extra benefits i.e. 1+1 = 3

I feel so honored to be the first comment. All of my hard work and dedication has paid off. Getting the first comment has been a dream of mine for many years, and I would like to thank those who have helped me along the way. First and foremost i would like to thank god for giving me this opportunity. Next i would like to thank my parents. I want to thank my friend Peter Griffin for being really skinny and always there for me. I would also like to thank my pet tadpole for surviving against all odds for over a week. Next i would like to thank the squirrel that lives in my backyard for climbing trees because that gives me inspiration that i need to get through the day. This is a special moment in my life and i would like to thank any of my unmentioned friends and family that have helped me along the way. This moment will be a moment that I will never forget. I just remembered a few other people i would like to thank; Abraham Lincoln, the fish I caught in the third grade, my light in my room because i wouldn’t be able to see the keyboard without it, the internet for letting me go on the bodybuilding forums, my house because without it i would be homeless, and last but not least i would like to thank all the people out there that actually took time out of their day to read this. I cannot stress how much of a big deal to me this is. I have been trying to be the first on a post for years, but that has not been possible until this amazing day. Hopefully my good luck will continue, but this is undoubtedly a rare occasion. If you asked me how I did this, I would say, you can achieve anything u set your mind on. To all the kids out there reading this, I would like to tell them to follow their dreams. Being the first is truly amazing, thank you everyone

It's interesting to see how different people take the book in different ways. I found this book to be so packed with PRACTICAL wisdom that I keep going over it again and again and it changed my life. I guess if you don't relate to the content you just don't get involved with the book and it seems like an excessive amount of words, but I devoured it. And I mean in a personal way, not necessarily in buisness.

I can believe the wife suddenly remembering about frigidaire because something similar happened to me. Aslong as i can remember i have had trouble swallowing pills. No matter the size, taste, texture it just feels like i physically can't do it which is obviously not true. So when i need to take medication i always end up chewing them up first which leaves the most disgusting vomit inducing taste in my mouth but that is the only way i can swallow them. A couple years ago i finally figured out why. When i was small child me and my stepdad were going to see some kind of motorbike race. And as we were talking and laughing in the car i had a hard candy in my mouth that i used to love. But as i was laughing i accidently swallowed the candy and started choking. Luckily we were close to the track and the doctor there ended up saving my life. I don't remember what happened in between swallowing the candy and getting to the doctor. I barely remember the doctor only that i threw up and have no recollection whatsoever of the rest of that day. This was the only time in my life that i thought i was going to die. And i had forgotten it. Or rather blocked out a traumatic experience i presume since it was still floating around somewhere in my subconscious. PS: Oddly it took me many years before i even tried eating a hard candy again. But even though i eat them very carefully on the rare occasion that i do. It didn't click why i was so afraid of accidently swallowing one of them untill a couple of years ago.

17:10 These "stories" were the biggest thing that undermined the book for me. It was required reading for a college course, and there were many reasons I thoroughly did not enjoy it, but the deliberately embellished or outright fabricated "true stories" fundamentally made me resent Covey as an author. If the same stories had been presented as hypotheticals, the title of Gravest Sin would have gone to something else, but I would have at least felt less like my intelligence was being insulted. Fun podcast tho, what a trip to revisit.

In the Cinergy chapter the dude had said something like 'You're having problems. You made a kid with cinergy'. Was he going anywhere with that? Like: "...That cinergy that you felt, that connection of minds and emotions, a version of that that can be found in your daily lives and finding that would increase your cinergy" or "You cared for each others' needs when you made that child. Try to find that care for each other even when you're not physically close".

Pod Con? So now podcasts have their own convention too... I cannot find the words to describe how much I dislike conventions in general. They sell tickets at professional-sports-gouging prices, parking fees are exorbitant, bus shuttle programs are packed with long lines and late pickup times, pseudo intellectuals (aka nerds) try to outsmart each other and show how much more they know about a particular subject, no outside food is available (forced concession prices on hungry attendees), prices for memorabilia in general are much more expensive than one would pay in stores or online (Amazon), and they sometimes sell tickets before having a completed guest list. Plus it just propagates this stupid culture of idol worshiping (seriously, is there anything more pathetic than waiting in line to get someone's autograph... a signed piece of paper from a person who doesn't know you and will probably never see you again?). Sorry to be so negative, I just feel that now-a-days there is a "convention" for just about everything, and in the end, most of them just serve a business purpose, even though the official line is about how "they're an outlet for the fans". In the end it's about self promotion and selling a brand/way-of-life and marketing overpriced and unnecessary products. I'd love to hear Myke and Grey's opinion on this subject!
@joshuageraldbutler8037

I think saying Autographs are pathetic is quite far, many people hold value from them as they are from someone they admire or respect, or someone inspirational.
@mikew1507
@mikew1507 6 жыл бұрын
Ok, while ranting about our idol worshipping culture I maybe exaggerated a bit about the autographs, but still, you have to agree that the amount of conventions that are popping up all over the place is kind of ridiculous... (and that convention organizers are not always looking after the fans, but over their "guests'" corporate/business interests)...
@DoctorWhom
@DoctorWhom 6 жыл бұрын
Different conventions have different feels, Myke has discussed stationary conventions before, maybe not on this podcast. The pop culture conventions and local trade shows are run like you've described. Maybe try a smaller convention? We will be hearing from Myke about podcon.
