Mill Brook Railroad

2 жыл бұрын

The 70 fell out of the back of the Jeep while unloading at home after a road trip. I didn't get the crash on camera but here is the cleanup and salvaging parts to use on the next body. I'll have an update on the frame coming up.

That was the 70's way of telling you it's time to give me a new body now. That's why the resistors sit on a heat sink...so the heat doesn't get transferred right to the painted wood. You salvaged the windows, didn't you?

when ever you are dealing with lead acid un-sealed batterie’s you have to be so careful! the acid is very strong and concentrated and will put holes in your clothes and damage skin in very little time. Wash everything for 5 min. and never delay! the more time the more damage will happen! make sure that the electronics are away from the spill as soon as possible to prevent damage from the acid fumes. WOW talk about pieces parts! nothing is with out damage! good luck with the repairs! barry

I’d say it would be possible to salvage and restore the body. Glue and plenty of clamps to hold it together while the glue sets. Then abrasive discs to square up the corners and flatten the uneven surfaces. Elbow grease and paint and she’ll be as good as new.

Well done for keeping your cool ! I rather doubt i myself would have remained as composed as you did. I am the club’s secretary for the Crawley Model Engineers & it’s myself that does most of the fixing of things so i get very frustrated when other people’s carelessness for things results in me having to fix things. We have a club member who is very clumsy & has no mechanical sympathy, if he breaks something he stands there looking at it, trying to find a way that’s it’s not his fault, very frustrating.

Aaron, sorry about the sad end of the #70. Perhaps its time for a "7-1/4" Ga GE 44 ton or 70 Ton prototype with independent trucks and traction engines and engine brakes and sanders. The models of the GE 25 ton two axle solid frame model are nice and compact but power trucks that swivel would cut down on derailments and handle the grades on that new division you are building. You could still make the new engine lead acid battery powered or put a small Honda generator motor generator set under the hood and make it a gas electric. No matter what else you do or don't do its time for springs! I hope you keep the CV Green & Yellow color scheme!

Body destroyed? I guess it was the emotion of the moment. Square sided plywood box (beat up and gouged as it is), with no detailing like stacks, ladders, steps rivets, seams, doors, etc. Doesn’t experience high stress loads or speeds. Screw it back together, fill the cracks and gouges with water putty or your favorite body filler and repaint it. I could have it looking better than before in a few hours, and would add more details in the interim. If you don’t want to “pretty it up”, just screw it back together and do “new owner repaint” with a new livery that still shows some of the old livery in unpainted or ghosted areas.

I enjoyed this video so much, I watched it twice. Now, the accidental destruction was disastrous. My sincerest condolences for the loss. Good thing would be taking a tax deduction for the loss. Salvage job was well done. I owned a battery business. The 1835 sulfuric acid loves to eat cotton, like those jeans. I'll try to find your address and show you how to bring dead batteries back to life. Vaseline is good to use on cable ends and keeps corrosion away. Old batteries lying around, just run the acid threw a window screen and use that acid for replenishment. I would repair battery plastic using the insides of an old battery with a hot iron. I use to use dry cleaning fluid for cleaning. I'd repair the lead connectors using lead tire wheel weights. Melt the weights and pour the melted lead into a mold over the connector. Arm & Hammer Baking Soda mixed in water is best to kill acid. Eaglegards...

Well a sad way to rename Mill Brook rlwy in Mill Broken rlwy. You can still use your overhauled boxcab. And plenty of times to rebuilt it before winter wood pellets train. If i remember you said that batteries were over and frame bent. Once mechanical issues will be solved, body is purely cosmetic. Even a cheap plastic bucket can do in the meantime to protect electronics, motor.... May i suggest you to have inside partitions for those things, making a future body minus headlights totally removable. In nautical world they put batteries in plastic container with strap to hold covers. Cheap price and less acid splashing in case.... I don´t want to be bad mouth, but this time you really miss a "good" video of 70 falling to her death ! Really sad even if some improvments were planned for her. Well if CP send to MLW a badly wrecked RS10 to get rebirth in a former trade in (for C424) FA2, and they did the opposite with an other one, you can do it !
