As odd it may sound, the drinking and chewing habits of Butler could be signs of him having autism or ADHD, if he still does it, especially given he's admitted that chewing helped him calm his nerves.

@@shanestanton8 Chewing is a very common “stim” (something done to stimulate the brain) for autistic people, while caffeine can actually have reverse effects on both autistic people & those with ADHD.

Jason Terry inspired my pre-game ritual. Our coach was a “shirt-and-tie on game day” guy, so I made sure to wear a shirt and tie combo that matched the opposing teams colors for that day. Silly, but I always appreciated that ritual by JT.

It's not mentioned here but one of my favorite weird pregame rituals is Bill Russell throwing up before games. He did it so often before big games that his teammates took it as a good omen when they hear him hurling in the locker room.

That wasn't a ritual, because it wasn't before every game. Bill Russell was the most insanely competitive player in NBA, and maybe even sports history. Yes, more than Jordan, he just gets noticed more because he was also an asshole, while Bill Russell was a true leader. Seriously, Bill Russell went into elimination games like it was a Mayan Ball Game, like his life be over instead of the season if he lost. He puked for literally the same reason soldiers puke before huge battles, his brain was wired to treat winning like it was life or death. Not sure how healthy that is, but his teammates knew that there wasn't a man alive that you'd rather play with when it mattered most. No blaming teammates, no drama, no stat stuffing, the only thing that mattered was winning. That kind of singular focus rubbed off on his teammates, and as their leader they fed off his energy and example to just win.
