Күн бұрынI was recently doing some research for another upcoming video I'm working on when I discovered a petition to bring back one of the original eight Steve Skins that got released on the Console Editions of Minecraft when it officially released & today I wanted to bring it to everyone's attention, enjoy.

As a black person, me and my friend (who’s also black) always loved Athlete steve. Namely cause he WAS black, since he was the only guy that kinda represented us. Shame he was erased.

Completely agree man, It's terrible they've just erased him from Minecraft's history basically. I'm not sure if you heard but recently they went a step further. I am not a veteran to Minecraft but I feel like people try to find the worst in anything and it would be cool if the skin would come back

The only way they should bring it back is if they redesign the skin. The way it looks originally comes off as a stereotype and it could lead to bad press for a game that's targeted for kids. People will say it's a 'cancel culture' thing but I'm sure the skin was t made with racist intentions the people making it didn't have the context. Fixing a mistake is alot better than pretending that stereotypes don't exist and affect us all even if we don't agree with them.

These skins are now all completely gone from the store. Any idea what happened? Was this just some quick promotional thing? Them removing the legacy skins entirely and sweeping my childhood under the rug like that is depressing.

Are they? I'll have a look myself in a moment & if they are gone I'll make a video regarding it but I doubt they've been completely removed from the store as that doesn't make sense but thanks for informing me. :3

Exactly, Mojang are Swedish & the majority of 4J Studios are I believe Scottish so I doubt they'd have been trying to offend people when creating the skins. :/

I used to use tuxedo steve but now use a snowman. My friends know me as the snowman skin and I wouldn't want it any other way.

Yes because people who made a block game who are from Sweden would be racist. Because nothing says Swedish and marketing like racism. In all seriousness people these days look into the nitty gritty and it honestly annoying. America is the worst when it comes to this. The point of an avatar in the first place is trying to find something that resonates with you. God 8 years ago was way better because back then people weren’t hell bent on making things about race or “appropriation” and now America is the breeding ground for it and England is slowly becoming the same.

Exactly, nothing says "good marketing" like racism does it. I do think people are over analyzing everything about the skin as opposed to just looking at it for what it is. :/

The footage was someone replaying the original TU1 tutorial world but in 2021 or 2020. To do that they needed to delete all the new title updates & anything they brought which included the newer textures for certain animals haha hence how you see that weird glitch texture! :)

I and my friends had different skins. i only remember 3 though because i used to play split screen minecraft ALOT with these people my boi who im gonna cal Moris cus i dont wanna say his real name weared the king skin in pack 1 or 2 me, i had tuxedo steve🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 and my other firend im calling billy was normal cus, moris (the xbox owner we all went to) was to stubburn to make him an account so he stuck with steve cus we was always a guest and didnt feel the need to change it im still friends with these 2 btw :) and we all played minecraft around 5-4 month ago

Wait i never knew that athlete steve was gone.... my dad used that skin and it was the 2nd default fpr any 2nd player on split screen that join. Also Love the new intro altho ypu do be a furry tho XD

Just want to say that the Bedrock store is actually blessing from the MicroSoft gods. You have stuff like skin packs based off movies, games, and shows. You have the series of Star Wars skin packs, (And now the 2020 Star Wars mashup pack), SpongeBob, Pirates Of The Caribbean, and more.

Wow. That was… easily the worst bait-and-switch I've seen in a while. This video quickly went from "why were these skins abandoned?" to "I'm not racist, and I hope you're not, either." Feeling a little unreasonably guilty, there, Joe? Also, it's "Athlete Steve" because "Black Steve" already existed in pre-alpha _Minecraft._ That, and "West Coast Steve" was clearly too clever of a joke to make. (;

What? I’m not even sure what to say in response to this comment lmao. I’m aware the skin is called “Athlete Steve” but many regarded to it as the Black Steve skin, especially console players as that’s where the skin originated. If there was a skin in the pre-alpha version of Minecraft that had that name then that’s a separate matter lol.

I'm just sayin'… it seems like you had more to say about racial politics than you did about the actual skin. But to be fair… it's a _Minecraft_ skin. There's not much you _can_ say about it other than "it gone and here's (tentatively) why".

@@JoLiKMC my point with the video was covering the fact that it was gone then additionally my own theory that many others share, although it’s never been confirmed by Mojang I do believe the skin being removed was due to the racial stereotypes aspects it had. That’s why I spent perhaps what felt like a longer part of the video talking about racial issues & my opinion on it. Regardless thanks for sharing your opinion on the subject & video, I do appreciate it. :D
