Thirty years ago I learned to block letter in a drafting class....if my teacher had broken it down like this I would have made much better grades...I took what I knew, a pencil and a piece of paper and followed along, not only did i make perfect 'propper' letters but i began to play and finally i enjoy lettering...I cant thank you enough, you are genius!

I am teaching my block letter alphabet soon and this gave me so many new ways to think about my letters and how to COMMUNICATE that to people. (Also- I loved you self-correcting from "fat" to "wide." Of course you don't mean "fat" in a pejorative way but since it's a word associated with hate, I am so happy you casually called that out. Love your teaching/explaining style!!)

I would like to thank you both for breaking down the lettering how to's for us/me! I truly appreciated it. I'm looking forward to practicing! The second group of wider circles was harder for me to be consistent. Is it possible to get a print out of Hayleys letters to practice tracing over to get the hang of it... my 5 year old grandson and I can do our letters together!!!! stay safe God Bless

So when we say block letters it's literally capital letters? I'm confused. Someone please help me.

There has got to be a better way than just knowing what block letters are. More than details and technique, what about ways and easy devices to steady the hand and other devices that can n project or create forms that are traced? Point is, sure if you have good handwriting, sure you have good handwriting writing. If you are an artist then you are, well, an artist. Let me rephrase with an analogy, how can I play a piano without knowing how to play, without any skills in piano. Well I could get access to a pianola or a learning keyboard that lights up keys. Some are interested in developing skills to make block letters, for me, I need business signage and know ordering printed banners and other materials tend to be way overpriced. I'm thinking to look at either a computer aid or a mechanical drafting device. MarkMannM2
