You say “beginner” and then break out a C923 & Jack Daniel’s gold label for the barrel proof options? Give them something easier to find and slightly cheaper. I’d suggest the Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel 120 proof. Outstanding bottle, especially for the money. Cheers! 🥃

Elijah Craig’s are everywhere and so is the jack Daniel’s barrel proof. Good entry options imo

Good list, the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof has recently been marked up to $90 here, for a more wealthy beginner. I would add the Bernheim Original 90 proof Wheat Whiskey, and a Four Roses.

National distribution is so varied. I'm in MA and I'm one of those that can't find Early Times BiB. We also seemed to get very little c923 for EC. I'm gonna end up traveling one day and find the ET bottle somewhere and then get WAY more excited than I should for a $25 bottle.

Early Times BIB is my favorite and I usually have a pour of it weekly. Nice choice of bottles. EC BP C923 may not be suitable for a beginner. Maybe a tamer one, like A123. 🥃

Great list! Some of these are inverted as in to findability in the DFW area but you definitely can’t go wrong with either. You definitely hit most of the spectrum! Thanks 🥃

Not sure I would recommend anything over $50 for a beginner but those are good choices if they are looking for a barrel proof.

Trying to get a full spread of different bourbons. When I was new I wanted to spend a good amount of money on whiskey and ended up wasting it on whiskey over $50 that just wasn’t worth the price. Hey Patrick! Great list! I would add the Jack Daniels bonded (whiskey and rye) to the list. Both on the cheaper side, easy to find, and the rye is a sweeter rye which is nice for beginners to get into. Thanks for the video!

I’ll be honest, I tend to disagree with some picks in this video. The biggest barrier for me was proof. Even jack Daniel’s old number 7 burned like there was no tomorrow. I wouldn’t recommend any high proof options if someone is just getting into spirits or bourbon. I would keep the proof in that 80vrange until they acclimate. For bourbon specifically, Basil Hayden’s was the ONLY bottle I could handle the burn of for a little while. The softer flavor let me dip a toe into the waters and that’s what I needed. Wild turkey 81 proof was another option that kept me going. Evan Williams black label was the next stepping stone from there. While the bottles you mention are good for someone who can handle the heat and wants to gain a broader appreciation or start a collection, for someone brand new, C923 would melt their face off. I still can’t drink that comfortably. Maybe that’s a me thing, but I lean more towards the slow intro with stepping stones to build off of. Cheers!

I think there’s a common myth surrounding beginner whiskey and that is that all beginners want to drink 80 proof whiskey. From conversations and my own anecdotal evidence I tend to disagree somewhat. I think it’s kinda like IPA some folks just like to dive in to the really hoppy stuff instead on trying blondes and pale ales first. I’ve met a few people who just started getting into the heavy stuff first. Don’t get me wrong it’s not for all new beginners but I wanted to encapsulate all of the beginner crown here. Would it be my first recommendation to try cask strength first? Absolutely not but there are folks who just enjoy that range whether beginner or seasoned if you like. Cheers iPad!

.. if your new or biginer to bourbon.. and really do not know what you like.. go to a whisky bar, and ask for a sampler.. they should provide you with enough to start figuring out what you like and do not like. do not go out and spend 500$ BEFORE YOU EVEN KNOW WHAT YOU LIKE...
