Join Fy Nyth on social media - mewe.com/i/fynyth ! If you are new to my channel and Fy Nyth (Welsh for "My Nest") in general, welcome! I'm Ariel. Along with my husband Clay, our dogs, cats, bees, and some poultry, we live in a tiny house on wheels in the mountains of western Wyoming and are working on setting into our own new little homestead. I've been living this lifestyle since 2014 and my wonderful partner has joined me more recently. What will you find if you follow the channel and watch the videos?
Real life here. I try to show the good and the bad. The ups and the downs. What works, and what doesn't. The parts I love (most of it!), and the things that suck. Not just the showroom version of a tiny house, but everyday life in a tiny house. Not just the romantic idea of "homesteading" or off grid life, but the everyday details of this lifestyle. We split wood for heat, fill the water tank from a gravity fed spring, and attempt to grow as much of our own food as possible between the weather and wildlife here. I hope to help others learn from mistakes and make life just a little easier for anyone else interested in pursuing a similar lifestyle.
We live in a somewhat harsh and cold climate, but enjoy the stunning scenery and wildlife that we are surrounded by on a daily basis. You'll also see videos of the nature and wildlife around my home. If you are interested in my photography or purchasing a photo, I'd love if you follow that over at mewe.com/join/arielcelestepho... or ArielCelestePhotography.zenfolio.com!

I like that you generally respect your chickens and two roosters. I watch some homesteaders that don’t seem to “care the same way. I’ve always loved your channel , your respect for nature and generally kind way you look after your land.

Those are good looking birds. If I wasn’t in Texas, I’d be tempted, especially by the brave, attentive roosters. I lost several hens to predators, including raccoons, loose dogs, and hawks, this past summer, and both roosters hid when they were needed! I don’t think they would be happy with our summers, though. I have a couple other breeds I’m looking at adding to my collection. I like getting varieties with features that I like and letting the barnyard mixing begin.

They are beautiful chickens! Enjoyed this, thnx!. I have about 26 on our 1.27 acres and love them so much. Here in the PNW we can have a variety of breeds because of the year round mild temps. And broodies are maddening at times 🤣

I like your explanations. I have ISA Browns and Black Star. The ISA’s lay jumbo eggs almost daily. I don’t let mine out in winter too much. Located on Tug Hill Plateau, we have weasel, mink, fishers, fox, hawks. I have two Great Pyrenees & a Lab.

Such beautiful birds. Such an array of colors and patterns! When I was young, the color variation was probably why I loved Bantys over the big reds, or all whites, Plymouths, or other big hens we had. Probably also why my 1st Fishbowl housed Guppies instead of Goldfish… love the variety and “surprise” factor! 🥰

After hearing you speak about these birds for a few years now I'm convinced this would be a good breed for me. Not only are they beautiful they are hardy which is good for our northern climate. Their temperament and ability to adapt sound like a great fit too.

As your chickens get to their less productive stage, do they go to freezer camp? Is that difficult for you? Does Clay help with that? We had some rules about our meat animals…no names, no petting or cuddling. Do you practice any similar rules? Thank you for sharing, for East Tennessee.

@papajeff5486 - Morgan Gold (Gold Shaw Farm channel), names all of his chickens, and his ducks and geese that are not being raised over one season solely as meat birds. He also names his cattle, even the steers that will be butchered. He treats his birds similarly to how Ariel does, particularly in terms of free ranging. When a beloved bird - Jemima Puddleduck - died, he did mourn her death but also considered the meal she became to be a celebration of her life.

Since we live in the middle of a large city, a good portion of what we feed our chickens, goes to feed the neighborhood squirrels and rats! Also small birds. Gets expensive. We did find a rat bait that is a birth control rather than poison which does keep the population down significantly, however that is pricy as well. Our cat is not interested if fighting with big rats or squirrels but our large labradoodle is a good hunter. We aren't allowed roosters in Denver, and only 6 chickens. Therefore, our birds are spoiled (free range) the eggs expensive, and the entertainment value high! The love to snuggle, knock on the door for treats, and lead us to the mealy worm container! More pets than farm animals for us I guess but enjoyable.
