I've been very interested in rare War Thunder vehicles recently, so I decided to see if I could play the rarest tank in the game, the AMX-50 Surblindé. Surprisingly, Gaijin actually accepted my request and gave me a test drive for it. The Surblindé was an event vehicle that was supposed to be about as rare as the German E-100 heavy tank, but a lot of the people who got it were banned for cheating. Much like its tech tree counterpart, the AMX-50 Surbaissé, the AMX-50 is a heavy tank with an oscillating turret and autoloading 120mm gun. The 120mm fires full-bore AP that is very similar to the shell fired by the American M103 heavy tank, but at one round every six seconds. Though the AMX-50's armor is ineffective, it is an incredibly strong sniper. It is an incredibly fun tank to play.

the funny thing about this tank is that it should be armored to 200mm on the front, but gaijin couldn't bother to look at the blueprint that you can litteraly find on internet and put a random number on it

Only a fool would assume a pt-76-57 player doesn't have a backup. The guys who play them dont know how to play anything else. (Except probably the bmp2M and ka-50)

After the last patch it's the highest br rank 4 in the game at 8.0 lol. And it's a great sl earner if u have a premium plane to go with it In a line up

The Surblinde is supposed to be better armored than normal AMX 50 100 if I recall right. Then they realized the thing is well... 70 tonns, and tried to lighten it while keeping the protection and armament, hence the "Lowered", aka Surbaisse version. Or so I reckon.

Yup, weight was too much both for the suspensions and the 900hp Maybach engine, the tank couldn't go past 50kph and wasn't reliable

Hey give the T54e1 a whirl, they buffed it's reload to 5 seconds instead of 6.7 seconds, absolutely killer premium. I recently made a small montage for the first time in forever because of the buff.

Possibly unpopular opinion: I think the sabot is more effective than the HEAT on the T54E1. Less crew picking and better spall.

@@brisho2684 the sabot is better then heat on all the 105s. Much higher velocity so easier to hit targets at range, much better post pen damage and more then enough penetration for most enemy's

What are you on about? Pretty sure the reload was always 5 seconds. The thing is irrelevant with the Turm 3 at the same BR with significantly better mobility, 30mm coax, same reload (basically same gun) and the real kicker: 2 plane stabiliser.

Or at least bring back the vehicle after so many years for GE. (2-5 years) This would be especially useful for Console players like myself who either never played on PC or like me had a PC and can’t afford a new one

To be precise on the project The AMX 50 project continue it developement of more and more powerfull turrets and guns At the same time the 50 FOCH is made to be able to host a 120 mm gun on an AMX 50 hull Then disgn is made for a copatible turret for a 120 mm ... put on a normal AMX 50 hull (so AMX 50 TOA 120) but it is considered unbalance and not armored enof so a more capable hull is made UParmored (Surblindé) (or AMX 70) our famous AMX 50 Surblindé here Then the wells and the rest is too hard to work on ... and it is too tall and heavy so it is desided to redisgne the entire tank to lower the all thing ... and with that we get the final version (witch is the one who got the closest to full production) the AMX 50 Surbaissé (overlowered)

The same 3 map thing definitely tracks. I was doing low tier arcade with a friend who is brand new and I think we got Sinai 8 times, Poland 2 times and frozen pass once. Then the next day it was just Stalingrad 8 times in a row

I remember this event but never really grinded for it because I knew it was basically the same tank as the normal amx-50. Every time I get killed by an amx 50 I always double check its name to see if its a surblinde. Haven't seen one yet and never actually knew how rare this tank is. I feel like no one actually remembers this event and im the only one who double checks amx50s to see if its a surblinde.

Try out the ASU-85. Same gun as the Obj 906, but with double the reload, at 6.3. Not too quick, but you get scouting and can pen just about anything frontally. I've only had problems penning the Jagtiger, T95, T28, and the Strv 103 (in full uptiers with my 6.7 lineup).

I had no idea this was so rare. I bought mine off the market the first week you could n spent like 140. Loved the French tech tree at the time and this was a blast. Been much better since it was dropped down to 7.7. I think it fits in better with the line up.

Wish the T54E1 would be moved down to 7.7. Its pretty similar. No armor, faster reload but a smaller gun. Its ok at 8.0 but it faces fully stabilized stuff almost constantly and it kinda suffers because of it.

That part about the map rotation is very real, I got the TOW rat (Wiesel 1A2, play it sometime?) and while I had no thermals I kept getting night maps. Unlocked thermals, not a single night map.

Would like to see some love for the Type 10 or 16. Genuine fun out of the ‘16 with the crisp thermals, and decently survivable vs some autocannons. Haven’t got the Type 10 yet but I’m on the way to it. The 500mm ufp seems like fun to have.

Speaking of T-44s being tanky, I had a normal T-44 eat two 128mm rounds from the Maus aimed at the body and cheek a few days ago. After it survived those shots, it killed my main gun so I just J'd out and put WT down for the day.

Fun vehicle. At it's br with proper angling you can bounce 105s and ATGMs too bad the gun sucks ass at that BR.

@@TheArcticFoxxo lowest pen on a long gun past 6.7 with a long reload. Even at 6.7 it's middle of the road. But out of the 7.3 and 7.7 US it was by far the most fun to play(provided RU was with you).

Yeah I don't know what's up with high-caliber AP and APDS shells, but I feel like they do more spall when striking at longer ranges, where point blank just goes trough or simply don't pen.

All i know, is with the Super bias.... I just center mass anything with the 120 and it dies. Solid shot detonates ammo 12/10 times. Easily my favorite gun in the game.

I love the amx 50 surb. They definitely fixed its gun at some point without announcing it. I realized this when going back to play 7.7 and I shot clean through an m47 mantlet at range. It used to nonpen leopard 1 turret because the optics and the sheer size of the 120. So happy to see this thing getting love

Look at the rear of the AMX 50 and the Surblindé, and the running gear too it all looks awfully like a tiger 2 doesn’t it? (They even share an engine of the same family) I’ve always thought of this family of vehicles as the French Tigers

For Su 122 about halfway through, Ive had it many times where Im killed by someone I never saw, often times when I was looking directly at where they were in the kill cam, because they just didn't render on my client even at CQB distances.

The one and only french tank I wish they made available again is the Lorraine 155 Mle.50. France lack in the howitzer department. A high caliber HE platform is fun when you know how to use them.

the issue with this isn't a lack of armor or it being bad in certain places, but you have to manually angle it at times

It's a good thing there are rare vehicles like this, people should get rewarded for grinding an event and getting a one time prize so they could feel special, wish I played back then

I saw one of these in my King Tiger, whipped around and killed it without a thought and only realized later what it was.
