What’s even more messed up about the Abyss is that the way it’s set up no matter if you’re good or evil you end up there regardless of status. We don’t see in Berserk where there’s any good outcome if you died in the story (at least so far).

One thing to also note is when they become Apostles is that they are giving away their bits of humanity and that forms into a teardrop from their soul’s lost humanity and that turns into a Behelit. When Griffith was becoming Femto and falling into the Abyss, he saw many teardrops in front of him and as he went closer it showed they were Behelits. So each Behelit is a form of someone’s lost humanity formed from a fragment of their soul sacrifice. It’s very interesting that a sacrificial soul fragment actually is what the Behelit is made from and probably is why it has a distorted face and such. It’s very interesting how that is all intertwined with creating a sacrificial ceremony, summoning the Godhand, linked to the Abyss, and connected to the Idea of Evil

it's possible the slug count was offered a second re-incarnation because there was still something human left to sacrifice in the form of his love for his daughter, while other apostales had long given up on ANY humanity. it's possible other apostoles would not get the same offer simply because there was nothing left to sacrifice except their own lives.

This is what the wiki says about the Abyss: Those that make sacrifices to the God Hand, and others who are caught up with demonkind (which usually includes the victims of those same apostles) are taken here when they die. Basically you don't need to necessarily be sacrificed, just the fact of being killed by an apostle is enough. Poor family killed by Wyald and the pregnant women submerged inside the Man Made Behelit

I fucking love berserk they need to do a fucking animation and the conviction art on already for god sake‘s that would be the biggest hit ever if they’re animated it like they did the 90s one. By far, i believe the best part Miura's world is how it goes in length to emphasize the complex nature of morality and fate. Most people tend to blame their morality on their fate while, more often than not, it is people's own moral choices that decides their fate. Although it is true that humanity is often the prey of a cruel destiny, it is ultimately their own choice to embrace it and thus, manifest it cruel. Either through cynical nihilism or self-delusion. Speaking of delusion, consistently depicting the concept of messianic organized religion as an enabler of those evils is genius. It combines all the worst aspects that are at the root of true evil: arrogance, murderous intolerance, willing ignorance, mindless acceptance, obscurantism, the stubborn belief in man's own helplessness and zealous belief in one's own righteousness. From there, hell on earth is not a question of if.

Every time I think of Berserk I’m reminded how exhausting it must be for Guts. His will is like no other. His resolve stronger than any rock or steel on earth.

I think the double helix tree is the idea of evil growing into the living world, Ik that chapter got removed but if you look at it that’s the only other thing that has a spiral growing from it, causality is also a spiral.
