The Slug Count is more of a redeemable character than Griffith will ever be because at least he didn't sacrifice Theresa's mother right in front of her and refused to sacrifice his own daughter even though he was a horrible tyrant that starved and ate his people.

This has me rooting for Guts and his friends to prove the God hand wrong, that fate can be changed. I am curious will the Moonlight Boy contribute to this, and whether or not the sacrificial brand on Casca and Guts can be removed, thus proving evil wrong their future is predetermined

I am going to emphasize that the Berserk Universe is a fictional universe, this video is still an interesting exploration of transcendental ideas that relate to our own existence.

It's kind of true in that if you knew everything happening and that had happened and knew what had everyone was thinking at all times you could in theory predict everything that was going to happen via cause and effect. But it's such a complex web of information that it is essentially impossible to know what will happen unless it's obvious.

I think causality is not real, that the God Hand and others merely have seen a pattern that mostly repeats itself. This is why Void is silent when Guts defies it because he knows how a similar event happened before and expects the same to happen. Laura seems to be aware that just because something has happened before that it won't necessarily happen the same way again.

In our universe currently it appears that almost true randomness is at the foundation underneath everything, but even if every event is perfectly written from the previous ones such that everything has a known, unchanging outcome, we still make the choice to walk the pre set path. I like your thoughts but here's something that has got me thinking for a long time. I just have no idea where it fits in this lore but here goes. The Behelit/Beherit is an item required for one to accend to "Demon Hood, Godhand, Apostle etc." We know that there are many different types each special in their own right, now as you say a sacrifice is required as payment for this power, and those sacrified suffer immensly. We also know that the Behelit stays in the possession of the one who is destined to have it. This is mentioned only twice that I can recall. Here comes the fun part. I believe the Behelit in Guts' possession was actually meant for him. It never leaves his side, when lore dictated that it should, Its colour in the anime, and in some of the full colour pages I have seen is also different. Whether or not that is significant is for you to judge. Slan tried to tempt Guts and offered him the choice to ascend but he refused because Guts would never sacrifice the lives of the people he cared for, HOWEVER, he would sacrifice himself. I believe, in the future Guts will be given this option, The Behelit will activate and he will become his own sacrifice, and his payment would be his lifetime of suffering, both physical and emotional.

I don't think that Causality and fate are the same, fate can't be changed. Guts is the variable, remember the first chapter guts should never have been born in the first place. Him and griffith are like fated to be nemesis, but the result of that causality is not a fatality.

I think it is interesting, that demons and the Godhand abide by the flow of causality and see it as an absolute fate for all things human and ungodly. But Guts, being human, intensely individualistic and unwilling to put up with some idea of fate, makes me think that humans actually do have a lot of control over the flow. Even God, the Idea of evil, is a creation of man. It makes me think that humans are in fact in control of causality, not the other way around.

My personal theory when Griffith became a god hand and since he didnt know how to manipulate causality properly his actions in tourching gutts instead of killing him caused gutts fate not to happen when it was supposed to so it freeded him from fate which now he isnt apart of fate . Like the ideal of a small pebble that can cause a ripple that would eventually becomes a hurricane.

So the real lesson here is: "Don't do anything...ever!"

Would be epic if somehow the story progressed to where Guts is confronted with the idea of evil and is somehow about to find a way to kill it. Maybe it will be skull knight using his sword of actuation on the idea of evil or guts will use the dragon slayer on it destroying all the god hand only leaving Griffith in his human form. Guts will kill Griffith this way mark my words !

Even if they are strugglers, all the manga is dictated about this concept and the primordial spiral of Causality. Would be amazing with Guts stoping the laws of the universe and all but its a stretch too hard and would give a bad plot armor to Guts since the rules are established and set to stone since the beginning. This sounds like our world honestly. Us humans don’t know anything just like the humans in that lives with Griffith the Moonlight Boy. They don’t know he’s a false God. He’s a God/Demon. People in our world praise a false God and more. This life we all live in is Berserk meaning insane and more. We are just born into a life that we struggle. We are the Strugglers like Guts. I have so many questions about this life and definitely need to ask God questions because why are we all suffering so bad here on a prison planet. This whole world is strange to me, while most will ignore it just to sleep at night. Their are definitely higher being beyond our comprehension controlling this life.

I love berserk because of all of its philosophical themes and ideas; however, the whole causality concept is garbage. You can't relate any of this predestination nonsense to the real world. They should have left it at perceived fate. Like Guts was assumed doomed from the start, but was able to fight against that. Not because fate is real, but because it isn't. Giving him some magical exemption to it is flat out retarded.

Berserks lore is canonically exactly what pre-modern era Christianity lore was down to the letter. -The pagans actually are disgusting fiends who do sacrifice and torture for their gods. -The Holy iron chain knights hunt them down and physically witness said behaviours and then go overboard with their punishment which spilled onto innocent civillians despite being a justified punishment towards the actual pagans. The prophets actually do show themselves in the times of peril. The prophets and the churches actually do help the downtrodden and poor and believers despite being evil themselves in some regards. Etc, etc. Then it treats the 5 angels like actual old testament Lovecraftian style angels all except the eclipse and creating apostles(followers)(demons subjects) Its just taking the magic literally in the story instead of metaphorically
