Like Reva in the Kenobi series, it would be better (for the audience) to know what Sol/Mae are hiding or reacting to. More often than not, hiding details (to have a twist or reveal) inhibits our ability to understand the characters' choices in real-time.

What's that you're suggesting? A power hungry politician with antipathy towards the Jedi? He's played by a British actor? And all the while, there's a second Sith lurking unseen in the background? I very much doubt they'll be one and the same...

Don't you think Jo pretty comprehensively breaks down the systematic strategies he uses to break down her defenses over time? And by the end of the episode the only thing that's happened is that she heard him out a little and tried on his helmet while he was out to see if it would help her access the force. He is certainly hoping she will notice his attractiveness and be drawn in by it, and I think we can assume she does, but only to the extent that she is human (or similar enough) and therefore not in control of whether she feels attraction or not, or to whom, or at what inconvenient times. But she doesn't act on it in any way and spends the whole episode censuring him, telling him she won't be corrupted, and interrogating him for useful intel. And then some of that intel turns out to maybe be perspective shifting...

Quimir presented himself as a needy nerd to Mae. He presented himself as a self-sufficient powerful and inventive force capable being. Which one is his true character? Mae tried to use him to get her revenge plan accomplished while, Osha is trying to figure him out, his power, his Jedi connection and his fall from the order. He is manipulating them into joining his renegade order of one. Mae was at the step where she was to kill someone without a weapon. Quimir is at the step where he is to recruit a force sensitive being. Who is the Acolyte????

I'm so glad you guys are covering this show with depth and glee. It's so good to get this much force/jedi lore and concepts to chew over in a show that isn't a cartoon aimed at small children 😂 It's wild to me how many people are unwilling to engage with it on that level when as Star Wars fans we're so practiced at squeezing all of the juice out of - let's be real - often much much much worse material. And it's such a relief to have one place in SW fandom to turn to that will never demean the female gaze, or a woman showrunner, or women's sexuality, or our place in the fandom, or be subtly or explicitly homophobic, racist or sexist. You've long been one of a very few online places I feel safe to come to for SW content, but I've been especially feeling it these last few weeks as the really awful vitriol has been nearly impossible to avoid.

Just a guy chilling with his girl in a crevice. When Mae replied to Sol “ I’ve always been like that” it implies that while erasing Pip she knew Osha loved him and that she cares little about what Osha actually wants and loves. She only cares that they were supposed to be together for ever. This is also the moment Sol realized it was Mae. Up to that point he was blinded by his emotions and truly hadn’t listened to her words and focused on her

Something about the Acolyte just hasn't hit with me. I really want to like it, but it just feels uneven or something. these mass murderers being hit with sympathy music cues was a little much. like, my eye roll reflex has been on overdrive; my The Rock eye brow uncontrollable; my "huh?" verbalizations in overabundance. Qimir leaves out the "what you bring with you" wisdom part. I think it's because he wants Osha to identify with the fear/hate she finds there. Whereas, Yoda encourages Luke to understand he will see things he is carrying with him, but it's not what he is. In the words of WBW Anakin, "because he's more than that."
@DaringDan
@DaringDan 20 күн бұрын
And then the payoff in RotJ after seeing his face in the Vader mask in ESB. He chops off Vader's hand and looks at his own and finally realizes the lesson of the cave: If he kills his father, he'll become him. Yoda tells him he doesn't need his weapon in ESB. Luke throws his saber down and tells Palpatine he failed. He's a Jedi now and that is the catalyst that gets Ani to save Luke. It's flawless.

I recently found your HOTD podcast and enjoyed it. KZfaq then suggested this one and I was interested to see if there’s someone actually doing a positive podcast about Acolyte since I’m middle of the road on it and I mostly only hear hate cast review the show. BUT now that I’m here why am I 19 minutes in and all I’ve gotten is plugs for other shows (understandable) and sexy talk about the Sith guy. Currently you’re discussing the all important top 10 sexy things said 😂😂. Can we just take a moment and imagine if 2 guys spent this much time discussing the sexiness of a female character,smh. We know that wouldn’t go over well. This is sounding more like a couple of teen girls reviewing Twilight for the first time. It’s fine to do this but maybe put this section in the middle of the show as a fun intermission to the overall review. It’s your show, so cool but those are my thoughts. The frustration is going to cause me to move on from this pod episode so maybe I’ll give the next one a try once it’s been confirmed that the Sith guy is sexy and we can all focus on the show. Again, really enjoyed your HOTD so I will be checking that out again.

You - REALLY - don't get Mal and Jo. They're absolutely wonderful podcasters and the charm/their personal relationship/playing on Mal's enjoyment of a bit of sauciness/how the Ringerverse pods all cross pollinate with appearances on each other's shows are all ingredients in their delicious Sith stew. Gotta be honest this comes off really whiney and not a little entitled. Have a little fun. "Oh what if boys said this about girls!" Come on. For starters the sexuality is front and centre in the text. It's a literal seduction. I'd also listen to them read the phone book but as I watched I couldn't wait to hear them talk about this and they didn't disappoint. Don't deny yourself the pleasure as Qimir might say. Often their sojourns around the shows and their lovely personalities are the best bit shining through.

@@dcro1211 C’mon, ease up on the whiny & entitled BS. If you’re allowed to bend down and kiss their asses over their podcasting style, as you did, then I should be able to give my feedback as well. It’s not like I blasted their podcast as being trash & that I would never listen to it again. I started with a compliment about their last HOTD show (the only other time I’ve heard them) and end with the same compliment and that I would continue listening to that show and would likely give this one another try again after the next episode. All in an effort to keep it respectful. Plus I acknowledged that it was their show so, at the end of the day, it was “cool” how they chose to do it. But being 20 minutes in with no actual show discussion seemed a little much and I gave my opinion on that. I’m not sure why after the respect that I showed why it’s considered whiny & entitled for me to express my thoughts but it’s perfectly fine for you to slide in and bitch about my opinion. Confusing but ok.

It's crazy how men are SO uncomfortable with women discussing sexuality. And every time, they try to turn it around and claim that we would hate it if men did the same. Men do the same all the time and it doesn't even register. Go over to the midnight boys on the same network and you will hear some Conversations and absolutely no one is over there commenting telling them they shouldn't. They only time women complain is when there is a lack of respect for the humanity of the women being discussed or depicted and that is simply not the case here. Listing the horniest things said in the episode isn't even about how hot he is, it's an analysis of the *writing* of the episode. It's too bad that discomfort around women's sexuality can lead some people to miss out on all of the smart and funny things we have to say.

I’m pretty confident that if The Acolyte sticks the landing, it will end up as one of the best things to happen in Star Wars next only to Andor. It’s brilliant on its own right and a breeze of fresh air that the franchise actually needed. It’s certainly the most fun I’ve had with Star Wars sincerely since the prequels. Love Mando, Andor is absolutely brilliant but The Acolyte is delivering on things that the franchise needed for decades and I think that very much like Empire Strikes Back, time will be kind with this one.
